Porn sites block access in France in protest against new restrictions

From Wednesday, people in France will no longer be able to access pornography on several major sites – at least temporarily.
Aylo, the company behind Pornhub, Redtube and Youporn, had plans to block content from the afternoon onwards in protest at new French age verification regulations, local media reports said on Tuesday.
Instead of porn, the company will only display a statement on the new regulations in the country.
Figures from the French digital regulatory authority Arcom from 2023 suggest 2.3 million minors visited porn sites every month, accounting for 12 per cent of the total number of users in the country.
To better protect minors, the platforms are to create stricter control mechanisms. Simply clicking that you are over 18 will no longer be enough.
To maintain anonymity, external sites will verify the age of users. The porn sites will then only receive confirmation that the person is of legal age and will not know their identity. The external service provider will know the identity of the user but not the reason for the age check.

Are you a highly sensitive person? How you can tell and why it can be a gift

Has anyone ever told you to 'stop being so sensitive' or to 'toughen up'? If you are regularly accused of being too sensitive, you may be a highly sensitive person (HSP), among an estimated 15 to 30 per cent of the global population. 'I was told my entire life I was oversensitive, or being overdramatic,' says Catherine Asta, an author, psychotherapist, and founder and host of The Late Discovered Club, a podcast that gives voice to autistic women. Asta is autistic , something that was identified late in her life. 'Over time, you learn to mask to protect yourself in all the spaces, faces and places that make it feel unsafe to be you.' It was not until she was in her thirties, after a period of repeated burnout , that Asta realised she had to change her lifestyle and the way she worked. Based in the United Kingdom, she trained to become a psychotherapist and is now writing her second book. Psychotherapist Catherine Asta works with others who have felt 'differently wired' all their lives without knowing why. Photo: Catherine Asta Her story, she saw, was not uncommon. Now she works with people – some in their seventies and eighties – who have felt 'differently wired' all their lives without knowing why.

When a fear of thunderstorms becomes a phobia and how to deal with it

If the sound of thunder rumbling makes you panic or you dread a flash of lightning, you are not alone in worrying about thunderstorms. Advertisement Here is how to decide whether you need treatment, and how you can overcome this fear. 'Normal' nervousness during thunderstorms is common – people are often momentarily unsettled by a loud clap of thunder or a bright flash of lightning. The fear of thunder and lightning, known as astraphobia, or the fear of thunder – brontophobia – is diagnosed when that fear is excessively strong and disrupts your daily life. You may experience physical symptoms such as a racing heart, trembling, sweating or shortness of breath as a thunderstorm approaches. These symptoms can also appear when a storm is forecast. Advertisement Hallmarks of this condition are pronounced avoidance behaviour, such as avoiding outdoor activities, and constantly checking weather apps.
