Sabari Bhavan to preserve tribal pride, says CM Mohan Majhi
Inaugurating the Sabari Sanskrutika Bhavan, a centre for short-term stay and cultural activities for the people of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada districts, at IRC Village here, the chief minister said the government has prepared a vision document which envisages Viksit Odisha through all-round development, holistic growth and tribal empowerment.
Exuding confidence that state's 24 per cent tribal population will play a crucial role in the onward journey, Majhi said 36 specific programmes have been outlined under the initiative '36 for 36' to achieve the goal by 2036 when Odisha will celebrate its 100 years of formation.
'The state government, having completed a successful year, is continuing its efforts with renewed vigour and commitment. In the coming days, the development journey will gain further momentum,' he added.
Majhi said the government is committed to ensure balanced development of the state. The Sabari Bhavan will symbolise the pride of the people of Odisha and serve as an inspiration for the new generation, he said.

Public seethe as OAS strike cripples essential services
BHUBANESWAR: As the state grapples with floods and the government faces mounting pressure over ensuring smooth and incident-free completion of Rath Yatra rituals along with paddy procurement across districts, the mass leave and pen-down strike by OAS and ORS officers to protest the assault on additional commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Ratnakar Sahoo has pushed the administration to the brink. Despite the assurances of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and senior ministers of taking strictest of action against those involved in the incident, the OAS Association has been unrelenting, and continued its strike in different districts. The Association on Thursday issued a three-day ultimatum to the state government to arrest BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan, whom it accused of being the kingpin behind the assault. It also demanded provision of adequate security for all field-level executive officers including tehsildars, sub-collectors, BDOs and executive officers, and public condemnation of the incident by the government. Notwithstanding the serious problems faced by common citizens in availing public services, around 1,500 OAS and ORS officers working in more than 20 districts, including Cuttack, Khurda, Ganjam, Balangir, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Kendrapara, Sambalpur and Koraput continued their indefinite mass leave, disrupting day-to-day government work. The protest also hampered administrative services in Lok Seva Bhawan here and other government establishments in the capital city. Apart from the OAS and ORS bodies at the state and district-level, a dozen of other employees associations including Odisha Engineers' Service Association have also extended their support to the agitation. The protest has left thousands of citizens to grapple with delays in availing a wide range of critical services - from caste and income certificates to filing grievance for land mutation.

Cops plan to revoke cordon passes to restrict entry on Bahuda
1 2 Bhubaneswar: For effective crowd management during Bahuda Yatra or return car festival Saturday, police are planning to revoke a large number of cordon passes earlier issued to various stakeholders for proximity access to the sacred chariots. Traditionally, the district collector issues common cordon passes, valid for both Rath Yatra and Bahuda celebrations, to a diverse group of persons, including govt officials, political representatives, temple servitors, media personnel, temple administrative staff, volunteers, and traditional cultural performers. These passes grant privileged access to the inner cordon area surrounding the chariots. The current year's festivities have been marked by unprecedented challenges, as the unrestricted distribution of cordon passes led to severe crowd control complications during Friday's Rath Yatra. The resulting congestion near Lord Jagannath's chariot caused substantial delay in the ceremonial chariot pulling ritual, drawing sharp criticism from opposition parties and devotees alike regarding the administration's management of cordon pass distribution. While the Puri district administration has not yet divulged the exact number of cordon passes issued for this year's festivities, sources indicated the figure could be 4,000 — a notable increase from the about 2,000 passes issued during the previous year's celebrations. The issue was discussed during a review meeting in Puri, chaired by chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday. A senior police official who participated in the discussions revealed, "The CM has explicitly directed a reduction in cordon passes to facilitate better crowd management around the chariots." SP (Puri) Pinak Mishra, acknowledged the administration's plan to restrict the number of cordon pass holders during Bahuda. "We will enforce rigorous restrictions on cordon pass usage during Bahuda. Access to the cordon area will be strictly limited to persons whose presence is deemed essential for the ceremony's conduct," Mishra explained in conversation with TOI. He said to ensure robust implementation of these measures, police are establishing multiple enforcement teams. "These units will be tasked with thorough verification of credentials and identity documentation before permitting entry into the restricted cordon area. The enhanced security measures aim to prevent overcrowding," the Puri SP said.
