SBS presenter Karla Grant breaks her silence on her shock romance with Married At First Sight star Nasser Sultan

SBS presenter Karla Grant has opened up about her surprising romance with Married At First Sight star Nasser Sultan.
The journalist told The Daily Telegraph on Sunday, even though the couple are very different, they still have a lot in common.
'I was taken by surprise myself,' Karla admitted.
'We love travelling, we love going to the movies, we love theatre. There's a lot of things that we have in common that probably people on the outside don't really appreciate.'
Karla revealed she is a MAFS viewer and instantly knew who Nasser was when he approached her at an event in 2018.

'He kept on asking me out, but I was always so busy with work and travel. Finally, I said "yes",' she explained.
Nasser and Karla have been quietly dating for several months after reconnecting at a party last year.
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia last month, Nasser said: 'We've known each other for four years, to be honest. Then we just reconnected at a party and fell in love.
'That was it. It was like love at first sight - just not Married At First Sight!'
Gushing about his girlfriend, Nasser added: 'She's gentle, smart, elegant, very well-educated, respected in the industry. And she's not fake. And she's not on Instagram.'
Indeed, while Nasser has often courted publicity since starring on MAFS back in 2018, Karla is renowned for her serious work as a presenter and producer for SBS's Indigenous current affairs program, Living Black, and largely shuns the spotlight.
The romance between the Walkley Award-winning journalist and the self-confessed reality TV 'troublemaker' may seem unexpected, but Karla herself said it best in a rare public statement.
'Nasser is one of a kind. He's attentive, caring and thoughtful and I see how he is with those who are closest to him. He's always helping his friends,' she said.
She continued: 'Our union was very unexpected, but it is growing into something very special.'
The relationship marks a fresh chapter for Karla, who was previously married to journalist and broadcaster Stan Grant for 16 years before they split in 2000.
Stan famously left Karla for his Seven Network colleague Tracey Holmes, leading to one of the biggest media scandals of the decade.
Meanwhile, Nasser has continued to make headlines in his own right over the years - from pulling cheeky publicity stunts to faking romances for tabloid attention.
But insiders say his romance with Karla is '100 per cent genuine' and not just another ploy for the cameras.
The fact that Nasser, a man who once said, 'write whatever you want about me so long as you write about me,' has kept their relationship low-key until now, speaks volumes.
'I credit her for making me calm. I'm still a troublemaker - don't worry about that' he said.
'And yeah, it's just blown me away, seriously, how this whole thing's happened'.

EXCLUSIVE Married At First Sight star sparks outrage over horrifying reaction to Erin Patterson trial verdict as he blames the 'old' victims

Nasser Sultan has sparked outrage online after defending mushroom killer Erin Patterson, describing her as a 'poor woman' and arguing that her elderly victims 'were old anyway'. The former Married At First Sight groom, 56, stunned followers after leaving a series of jaw-dropping comments under a post reporting that a jury had found Patterson guilty of murdering her three in-laws by serving them death cap mushrooms in a beef Wellington at her Leongatha home in July 2023. In a now-viral Instagram exchange, Nasser wrote: 'Poor woman' – before doubling down in a reply to another user, writing: 'She didn't mean it, plus they were old anyway.' When contacted by Daily Mail Australia, Nasser stood by his remarks and shockingly doubled down. 'Look at her, right? The poor woman disliked her in-laws and disliked her husband,' he said. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'And instead of going to shoot them or whatever, she invited them for lunch and just poisoned them. It's very clever. 'I feel sorry for her because she's going to be left in jail now for the rest of her life. And these people are old anyway. Really, it's just one less pensioner to feed.' Asked if he believed age diminished the value of life, Nasser replied: 'Look, age plays a big factor. If I'm 85 and something happens - f**k, I'm 85. 'I've lived 85 good years. I've had my time. I've travelled, I've eaten at good restaurants. At 85, it's okay.' He went on to suggest that the victims were partly to blame for their own deaths. 'If I didn't like someone and they invited me to lunch, I wouldn't go,' he said. 'So it's their fault for going to lunch. You've got to take your chances, don't you?' Despite widespread backlash, Nasser remained unapologetic. In a now-viral Instagram exchange, Nasser wrote: 'Poor woman' – before doubling down in a reply to another user, writing: 'She didn't mean it plus they were old anyway' 'I stand by it,' he said. 'If they were 30 or 40, that's really sad. But when you're in your 80s - come on.' He insisted he felt 'sorry for the families' but quickly returned to defending Patterson. 'You've got to look at the actions. If your mother or father is disliked by your daughter-in-law, you wouldn't send them to lunch, would you?' He added: 'It wasn't like a lunch to say "Let's talk about it and be friends." It was "Come over, I've made lunch" – and they went.' Nasser also claimed he was initially expecting a hung jury and floated the idea that the deadly mushrooms could have been a mistake. 'It is possible that you can have mushrooms that are off. You could eat yoghurt that's off and get poisoned,' he said. 'I don't know what poisonous mushrooms are – do you?' He concluded the interview with an unexpected pivot to rapper P Diddy, bizarrely comparing the two cases. 'If you've got money, you get the best lawyers. If you're Erin Patterson - no money, a little overweight and unattractive - you've got no chance.' Patterson has been found guilty of murdering her three in-laws with death cap mushrooms in a beef Wellington that she served them for lunch at her home on Monday. The verdict ends one of Australia's most intriguing homicide cases. The mother-of-two sat defiantly throughout her 10-week trial, glaring at the media, members of the public and the family of the people she murdered with callous disregard. Patterson had pleaded not guilty to the murders of Don and Gail Patterson, and Gail's sister, Heather Wilkinson. They died after consuming death caps in the beef Wellingtons during lunch at Patterson's Leongatha home in southeast Victoria on July 29, 2023. Only Pastor Ian Wilkinson survived her plot, a blunder Patterson would live to regret, and will now serve time for after also being found guilty of attempting to murder him.

Axed Love Island star Alima reveals secret connection with Islander that ‘wasn't shown' after hidden romance is exposed

Love Island star Alima reveals secret connection with Islander that 'wasn't shown' after hidden romance is exposed Alima was in a couple with Remell before he got dumped from the villa as the "least popular boy". 7 7 7 He sealed his fate when he snogged bombshell Poppy behind Alima's back, and shared a bed with her for two nights at the Sleepover. Alima was then cracking on with Ben and things were heating up, but she was in a couple with Conor and was left vulnerable when he recoupled with new bombshell Billykiss. Scottish beauty Alima spoke about her journey on AfterSun last night and told Maya there was one more boy that had caught her eye. Maya asked her: "Is there anybody that you regret not getting to know better?" "Erm I think probably Harrison, there was something there, I don't know if that got shown," she replied. "Then obviously I went for him in the Snog, Marry, Pie challenge. "And then we had a conversation but I said listen, you are in a pickle when it comes to Toni and Helena, so I'm going to remove myself from the situation." Harrison has since been seen snogging Casa Amor newcomer Lauren. Meanwhile, Alima and Ben left things on good terms. But last night he was seen enjoying a three-way kiss with two Casa Amore beauties in a challenge. Watch shock moment Alima explodes at Remell after sleepover kisses with Poppy as Emily breaks down over Conor Asked about pursuing something with Ben outside of the villa, Alima said: "Do you know what, I've watched the episode, and I'm like, I don't know. "For me, I know he has to crack on. But because I've seen it with my eyes it's sickie. So we'll see." Alima also revealed she won't be friends with Remell on the outside. She said they no longer need to be civil as they're not living under one roof. It comes after Alima had a slow start in the Love Island villa and fans accused the show of hiding her earlier on in the series. They previously called Alima a "supporting character" in the villa. Fans accused the show of giving Alima a poor edit. One said: "I would like to report a missing person. Her name is Alima and if you do see her let us know." Another wanted to know: "Does Alima even enjoy her time in the villa? I feel like that villa is so toxic and that's why she's always missing from group settings and just vibing alone w her mans." Another raised the alarm, writing: "MISSING ALERT Alima's been missing from our screens! If she returns please contact me!" And a fourth said: "Is it just me or have these two been properly stitched up in the edits? Barely seen them the last 3 or 4 eps…I think one of those two are definitely out next." Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX 7 7 7
