'Virat Kohli And I Have Been Texting': Novak Djokovic Reveals Admiration For India Star

Last Updated: Virat Kohli watched Novak Djokovic from the stands as the 25-time Grand Slam champion defeated Alex de Minaur to enter Wimbledon 2025 quarterfinal. Novak Djokovic says he's been in touch with Virat Kohli for a few years now but hasn't got the chance to meet the India batting great in person. Kohli was present at the All England Club as he watched Djokovic sail into the quarterfinals of the men's singles event of Wimbledon 2025. Kohli is backing Djokovic to win Wimbledon 2025. 'Virat Kohli and I have been texting a little bit for a few years, and we never got the chance to meet in person," Djokovic said on Sony Sports. 'But it was really a privilege and an honor to listen to him speak nicely about me. And I obviously admire all of his career and achievements and everything he has done." Djokovic, who holds the record for the most singles titles in Grand Slam history, is eyeing a record-extending 25th title. He brushed aside the challenge of Australian Alex de Minaur, prevailing 1–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–4 to enter quarters. The 38-year-old said he tried playing cricket but isn't very good at it. 'I started to play cricket. I'm not very good at it. Obviously cricket being very big, big sport in Australia and of course India let's say that I'll have a task to perfect my cricket skills before I get to India so that I don't embarrass myself when I'm there," he quipped. Djokovic has seven Wimbledon titles and should he triumph this Sunday, it will bring him on level terms with Roger Federer's record of eight titles at the All England Club. 'It's probably the first time he's (Federer) watching me and I've won the match," said Djokovic. 'The last couple I lost, so good to break the curse. No, it's great, obviously, great to have Roger, a huge champion and someone that I admired and respected a lot. We shared the stage for so many years, and it's great to have him back." 4th T20I: India women aim to seal series versus improving England

New Delhi: India will bid to bounce back and seal the women's T20I series on Wednesday when they take on England in the fourth game of the series at Old Trafford, Manchester. The visitors lost the third game at the Oval by five runs after Sophia Dunkley's brilliant 75 of 53 balls helped England eke out a narrow win and keep the series alive. Sophia Dunkley's brilliant 75 of 53 balls helped England eke out a narrow win in the third T20I and keep the series alive. (Reuters) Speaking after her Player-of-the-Match performance, Dunkley reflected on the win. 'India came out and batted really well in both games. It's been a challenge, but we talked about how we want to improve. Hopefully we can keep building on that,' she told HT in an interview facilitated by Sony Sports. England's response was also about mindset, which Dunkley credits new captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and coach Charlotte Edwards for instilling in them. The new era began with a clean sweep against West Indies in ODIs and T20Is. Until they ran into India. Not only did India out-bat England in the first two games, their spinners also pegged down the home batters. Dunkley was happy to anchor England's chase with clean hitting. 'Naturally, I love opening the batting in T20 cricket. My role is to get the team off to a good start and I've been thinking a little smarter about my options.' Dunkley credited Sciver-Brunt's calm presence. 'She's a real leader in world cricket. Her calmness, even when it's chaotic on the pitch, gives us confidence. She encourages us to be ourselves even when things haven't gone well.' India's new spinner N Shree Charani has made life tough for England batters, taking eight wickets in the first three games. 'She's had an exceptional start. A lot of us hadn't faced her before, but she's offered something different and has definitely sparked conversations in the dressing room.' While the T20I series remains in balance, Dunkley has one eye on the ODI World Cup, to be played in India in September. 'It's an amazing place to play. The atmosphere will be unmatched and the conditions might challenge us, it might obviously be a bit more spin-friendly and off-pace bowling might be key.'

After 'Gladiator' Praise, Novak Djokovic Opens Up About 'Texting' Virat Kohli: "Never Got..."

Tennis icon Novak Djokovic sailed into the Wimbledon quarter-finals with a victory in four sets over Australian Alex de Minaur on Monday. In attendance to watch Djokovic's victory at the All England Club was India cricket star Virat Kohli. Kohli, who lives in London, is not playing in the ongoing Test series between India and England. Following Djokovic's win, the Serbian tennis star revealed that him and Kohli stay in touch over texts, but have not had the chance to meet each other in person. "Virat Kohli and I have been texting a little bit for a few years, and we never got the chance to meet in person," said Djokovic, speaking to Sony Sports. "It was really a privilege and an honor to listen to him speak nicely about me. And I obviously admire all of his career and achievements and everything he has done," Djokovic added. "It was business as usual from the gladiator," Kohli had posted on Instagram, referring to Djokovic. Djokovic also stated that he had tried his hand at cricket, but did not quite enjoy the same success as he has with tennis. "I started to play cricket. I'm not very good at it. Obviously cricket being a very big, big sport in Australia and of course India, let's say that I'll have a task to perfect my cricket skills before I get to India so that I don't embarrass myself when I'm there," Djokovic said. Novak Djokovic vs Alex di Minaur: As it happened Djokovic brushed away a slow start and overwhelmed Alex de Minaur to storm into the quarter-finals for the 16th time at Wimbledon on Monday. After enduring a setback in the opening set, Djokovic recovered and booked his berth in the final eight with 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in a contest that lasted for three hours and nineteen minutes. Last year, De Minaur had to withdraw before his quarter-final clash against Djokovic at SW19 due to a hip injury he sustained in his fourth-round win against Arthur Fils. De Minaur had dropped just one set en route to the Round of 16, but his run ended on a frustrating note. He steamrolled past Djokovic in the opening set, but the 26-year-old couldn't convert the break-point opportunities to turn around his fate. The limited errors from Djokovic kept things in his favour in the second and third sets. In the fourth set, he rallied from 1-4 to earn a spot in the quarter-finals. If Djokovic wins Wimbledon, the 38-year-old will go level with Roger Federer's tally of eight titles on the grass-court major.
