Perak customs seizes RM10.9m in drugs, supercar and smuggled goods
Director Mohd Nadzri Ariffin revealed that the department uncovered 9.8kg of suspected ganja hidden in mattress boxes and inflatable pools at a courier service in Petaling Jaya on June 5. The drugs, worth RM966,084, were destined for export.
'Smuggling drugs hidden inside mattress boxes and inflatable pools for export is a common modus operandi used to evade authorities,' he said during a press conference. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In another operation at Port Klang on June 4, authorities seized 55,320 e-cigarette devices and 706 smuggled marble tiles worth RM1.5 million. The shipment involved false declarations and is being probed under the Customs Act 1967.
A Brabham BT62 supercar, imported without a permit, was also seized in West Port, Pulau Indah, on May 27. The luxury vehicle, valued at RM6.4 million, is under investigation for customs violations.
Additionally, two refrigerated lorries in Pengkalan Hulu were found carrying undocumented pig carcasses worth RM1.5 million. The shipment lacked proper health certificates and import permits, violating quarantine laws.

Couple nabbed in Penampang, KK during drug raid
KOTA KINABALU: A husband and wife have been arrested in possession of suspected syabu (methamphetamine) during a drug raid at Kampung Nosoob in Penampang on Monday afternoon (June 30). The local couple, aged 54 and 55, were detained by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Penampang district police headquarters around 4.30pm. Penampang district police chief, Supt Sammy Newton, said a search led to the discovery of a clear plastic packet containing crystal-like substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing approximately 50.5g. Police also seized two vehicles and RM1,800 in cash. He said the street value of the seized drugs is estimated at RM2,500. 'Initial urine tests confirmed that both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine,' Newton said in a statement on Wednesday (July 2). The case is investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment with at least 12 strokes of the cane if not sentenced to death. The couple is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same act for drug use and is currently under remand. Couple face multiple drug trafficking charges
SIBU: A married couple faced multiple drug trafficking charges in the magistrate's court here today. Tie Teck Hock, 52, was initially charged with trafficking 1,030.80g of methamphetamine outside a food outlet at Jalan Pedada around 10pm on June 12. He nodded in understanding when the charge was read by a court interpreter before magistrate Oon Kork Chern. Subsequently, Tie and his wife, Lee Chee Fei, 45, were jointly charged with trafficking 6,055.90g of methamphetamine found in a house at Jalan Permai Jaya 9D1B1 at 10.45pm the same day. They were charged under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. The couple were also jointly charged with possession of 2,078.90g of ketamine and 2,022.15g of nimetazepam at the same location, time and date. The charges were brought under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM100,000, or imprisonment for a maximum of five years, or both, upon conviction. Both the accused indicated they understood the charges, but no plea was recorded. Tie was previously released on police bail on June 26 following the expiry of his seven-day remand, but was subsequently rearrested under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985. Lee was also released on police bail on June 24 after her four-day remand ended, but was similarly rearrested under the same Act. The court fixed Aug 22 for further mention of the cases pending the chemist's report. No bail was granted to either accused. Indonesian man charged with trafficking over 20kg of methamphetamine
KUALA LUMPUR: An Indonesian labourer was charged in the Ampang magistrate's court today with trafficking over 20kg of methamphetamine last month. Munzir Abdurrahman, 50, nodded when the charge was read out to him before magistrate Normaizan Rahim. However, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Munzir was charged with trafficking 20,850g (20.85kg) of methamphetamine at the parking lot of a shopping mall in Taman Melawati here at 12.38pm on 22 June. The charge was framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping of not less than 12 strokes if not sentenced to death upon conviction. The court fixed Oct 3 for mention to allow for the submission of the chemical report.
