Setback for INDIA bloc as Congress pushes to go solo in Mumbai civic body polls
However, the party High Command may not have to make the difficult call after all, as the Uddhav Sena had already expressed its intention of fighting the civic body polls alone. The elections are scheduled to be held either this year or early next year. The meeting on Monday was attended by top Congress leaders from Maharashtra, including its state in-charge Ramesh Chennithala, Rajya Sabha member and general secretary Mukul Wasnik, ex-state unit chief Nana Patole and others.Out of 227 seats, the Congress managed to win only 31 seats in the 2017 BMC polls, while it won 56 in 2012 and 75 in 2007.advertisementAfter the poor show put by the MVA alliance in last year's assembly elections, the fate of the INDIA bloc in Maharashtra hangs by a thread ahead of the civic body polls.Out of 288 assembly seats, the MVA could bag only 46 seats, with Congress winning only 16.- EndsMust Watch

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is impersonated by AI in an attempt to scam foreign diplomats, a Congressman, and a Governor
United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio was the victim of impersonation via artificial intelligence (AI). Per reporting from The Washington Post, Marco Rubio's impersonator used AI text and voice generation tools to imitate the Secretary of State's speaking and writing style in order to contact multiple foreign ministers, a Congress representative, and a state Governor. Most of this impersonation occurred via the encrypted messaging app, Signal. Signal has already been a cause of embarrassment for Donald Trump's administration due to it being the source of prior security breaches, such as a leaked group chat discussing a bombing campaign in Yemen, in which both Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth were present. Mario Rubio's AI impersonator used a fake email Secretary of State Marco Rubio was impersonated by a scammer who used AI software to replicate his voice and contact government Marco Rubio's impersonator used a fake email ID called to establish contact with their targets. This fake email was used as a display name, and the scammer used AI generated voice memos to contact at least two people. The impersonator also tried to initiate text message conversations on the Signal app. The potential for AI misuse has not gone unnoticed by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), which issued a warning in May about 'an ongoing malicious text and voice messaging campaign' that deliberately impersonated senior US officials in order to build a rapport with others before asking for access to their personal accounts. Marco Rubio isn't the first high-level US official to be the victim of an AI impersonation, and he likely won't be the last. Former president Joe Biden was the victim of an AI impersonation during the 2024 New Hampshire primary, where automated robocalls of a deepfake impersonation of him urged residents to not go out and vote. Deepfakes have also impacted US foreign relations, with former Senator Ben Cardin revealing that he was once contacted by a deepfake of Ukranian diplomat Dmytro Kuleba and asked politically charged questions about the 2024 election.

Sand mafia growing unchecked, governance failing under CM: Gehlot
1 2 3 Jaipur: Senior Congress leader and former chief minister Ashok Gehlot criticised the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led BJP govt in Rajasthan, accusing it of surrendering to the sand mafia and failing to uphold law and order in the state. Speaking on the birth anniversary of senior Congress leader Late Girija Vyas at PCC Tuesday, Gehlot said, "The sand mafia has completely taken over. Sand prices are skyrocketing, and the common man can't even afford to build a home. During our tenure, we faced challenges too, but we tried to control them. Today, it's a free-for-all." He alleged that a deep-rooted nexus now exists from the grassroots to the top, resulting in unchecked violence. "Police are being attacked, people are being run over by trucks, and anyone refusing to align with the mafia is being crushed—literally. This is not governance, this is lawlessness," he said. Gehlot further questioned chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma's priorities. "What is the point of frequent tours and public visits if there is no governance on the ground? Crimes are happening everyday — rapes, robberies, thefts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo These are burning issues. Why isn't the CM acting?" Criticising administrative inertia, Gehlot noted the delays in implementing officer promotions and appointments. "Promoted officers continue to work on their old posts. IPS officers promoted to DIG are still functioning as SPs. IAS officers faced similar delays. Now that a new DGP is in place, what is stopping the govt?" He further accused the BJP govt of losing grip over public grievance redressal systems and claimed that law and order in the state was deteriorating. "The public doesn't know where to go. Mafia elements are on the rise, and complaints at the thana (police station) level are simply not being heard," he said. "The chief minister should deploy his IB discreetly to investigate whether what we are saying is baseless or not. If our concerns hold merit, he should act swiftly to fix them. If not, fine—we'll accept it was political exaggeration. But it must be verified by his own agencies," he added.

I was disrespected at temple: Selvaperunthagai
Chennai: TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai on Tuesday said he was treated with disrespect at the Vallakottai Murugan temple consecration in Kancheepuram despite arriving on time. The DMK allies called for action against HR&CE officials while minister P K Sekarbabu visited the Congress leader and assured action. "The minister expressed regret for the incident," Selvaperunthagai said. The controversy related to the consecration ceremony of the temple, which took place after 17 years. Former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundarajan, Selvaperunthagai, and DMK (Anna Nagar) MLA M K Mohan were among those in attendance. Selvaperunthagai said he wasn't treated with the respect an elected representative deserved. "It is customary for the elected representatives to flag off the temple consecration ceremony by standing on top of the Temple Vimana, and it happens that way in all temple festivals. But during this festival, the HR&CE officials flagged it off. Similarly, there was no one to even guide me and take me to the appropriate places. None of the protocols were followed," he told TOI. Sources in the HR&CE department said officials concerned submitted a report to the higher-ups saying the Congress leader arrived late and missed the prayers, despite priests waiting for him for 30 minutes. Selvaperunthagai denied these accusations. "I was asked to come at 8.30am, and I reached the temple at 8.15am. I was waiting in the temple storeroom to participate in the prayers, but there was no one there to accompany me because of which I had to leave. Some have an ancient mindset." CPM state secretary P Shanmugam said Selvaperunthagai's caste (SC), was the reason for the alleged discrimination. VCK MP D Ravikumar called for abolition of discrimination in temples.
