Hwy. 144 reopens north of Cartier
Highway 144 has reopened north of Cartier after vehicle collision closed the roadway Wednesday morning in Stralak.
'Emergency crews are responding,' Ontario Provincial Police said on social media.
In an email to CTV News at 8 a.m., the OPP said a collision took place around 5 a.m. that sent a pickup truck down an embankment.
'The two occupants needed to be extracted from the vehicle, but did not report any injuries at that time,' the email said.
'The investigation is ongoing, and the highway is expected to reopen within the hour.'

'It's treacherous, especially not just here, but have you ever gone from Sudbury down to the city? Like that two-lane – that was like white-knuckled driving down there. If a transport is off by two inches, you're done.' The premier highlighted an agreement with three First Nations communities to secure land for the project. 'We've bought their piece of property, and so we're going to be twinning that. We've made that announcement, and my goal is to make sure our highways are safe,' he said. Northern winters highlight need for safety improvements Ford emphasized the dangers of northern Ontario winters, stating that those in urban centres may not fully grasp the challenges. 'My message to people in the city – you have no clue until you come up to the north and you drive in the winter,' he said. 'We drove all through the north during the election. Snow was coming down – we had a pretty heavy winter. It's terrifying.' He added that northern Ontario's harsh conditions are something one must experience firsthand to truly understand. Timeline still unclear While Ford confirmed that Northern Development Minister Greg Rickford has been pushing to complete the project, no start date for construction has been announced. Provincial officials say Ontario remains committed to improving highway safety, with further details expected in the coming months.

1 person dead following ‘serious' single-vehicle collision on Highway 403 in Burlington

The collision happened between between Waterdown Road and Highway 6 at about 8:50 p.m. 'Despite resuscitation efforts, one person is deceased. No other injuries have been reported,' Burlington OPP said in a post on X. Currently, police are working to divert backlogged traffic. Motorists should note that westbound Highway 403 is full closed at Waterdown Road is closed for police investigation until further notice. Police say slowdowns are to be expected and are asking drivers to approach the area with caution. More details to come...

Two people sent to hospital after single vehicle crash
A truck crashed into the shoulder south bound on Highway 400 north of Honey Harbour One lane remains closed southbound on Highway 400 north of Honey Harbour after a single vehicle crash. According to Southern Georgian Bay OPP, a truck pulling a camper trailer crashed into the guardrail. Pictures supplied by OPP show the truck upside down in the ditch with debris on the shoulder of the highway. Both occupants in the truck were transported to hospital by paramedics while their vet was also transferred to a vet in Barrie.
