Jeffrey Archer Exclusive: "My Personal Hero Is RK Narayan, He Should Have Got The Nobel Prize"
In an exclusive tongue-in-cheek interview with NDTV, celebrated English novelist Jeffrey Archer and Indian author and ex-diplomat Amish Tripathi opened up in a rather fun way about the first ever Archer-Amish Award. Jeffrey Archer, whose latest work An Eye For An Eye took the literary world by storm, added all the 'just for laughs' moments to the interview.
Amish Tripathi, best known for the Shiva Trilogy, started off the interview saying, "First of all, what an honour to have my name associated with someone I've been a fan of since my school days." The author said he is humbled by his name being mentioned in the same breath as the iconic British novelist, who penned Kane And Abel (1979), Only Time Will Tell (2011) and The Sins of The Father (2012).
Jeffrey Archer added life to the interaction, expressing his admiration for his Indian readership. "And the Indians-they're among the biggest readers on earth. India still loves books." He further spoke about his ultimate fandom for the Malgudi Days author, "And, of course, you've produced so many giants over the years. My personal hero is R.K. Narayan. What a storyteller! (He) should've got the Nobel Prize. Should have - unquestionably," he tells NDTV.
Dr. Shalini Mullick has been named the inaugural winner of the IGF Archer Amish Award for Storytellers. The honour has been presented in partnership with The House of Abhinandan Lodha at a ceremony held of day 1of IGF London being organised at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre. U.K. Minister for Culture Lisa Nandy presented a cheque of USD 25,000 to the winner for her novel, The Way Home.
Mullick's book was selected as the standout piece for its moving and relatable exploration of grief, identity and healing. It is a story of three millennials seeking refuge in Goa as they traverse through their personal demons and discover themselves and the strength in friendship.

In fact, reports say that theatres across the country have been running houseful shows. Sardaar Ji 3 has been banned in India in the wake of rising tensions with Pakistan, especially after the tragic Pahalgam terror attack in April. While the film hasn't released in India, it has hit theatres internationally, including in Pakistan. Diljit, standing by his decision to release the film abroad, has been sharing videos and reactions from packed theatres in Pakistan. Recently, Diljit Dosanjh took to Instagram and re-posted a video, which comprised the public's reaction to Sardaar Ji 3 inside a theatre in Pakistan. Interestingly, the video posted by the singer-actor showed Hania on the screen. He shared another post, in which he is seen proudly flaunting the film's global box office figures. Diljit has been facing boycott calls in his home country India. Diljit Dosanjh recently broke his silence on the controversy and Hania Aamir's casting in the film that was done months before the Pahalgam attack in April. Speaking to BBC Asian Network, the singer said that the project was completed before any of the current political tensions surfaced. 'Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha. We shot this in Feb and then everything was fine. Uske baad, bhut saari badi cheezen humare haath mein nahi hai. Toh producers ne decide kiya ki film obviously ab India toh nahi lagegi, toh overseas release karte hain. Toh producers ka bahut paisa laga hua hai aur jab yeh film bann rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi (When this film was made, everything was fine. We shot it in February, and at that time, the situation was normal. After that, a lot of big things happened that are not in our control. So the producers decided that since the film obviously can't release in India now, they'll release it overseas. The producers have invested a lot of money, and when the film was being made, there was no such issue)," he said, adding that the makers are aware they will incur losses. Poonam Dhillon recalls how Rishi Kapoor could sing sad songs with a smile
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 30 (ANI): Late actor Rishi Kapoor left for his heavenly abode on April 30, 2020, but he continues to live on in our hearts, memories and the pages of Indian cinema's history through his magnificent work and charming personality. In an interview with ANI, veteran actress Poonam Dhillon took a stroll down memory lane, recalling her collaboration with Rishi Kapoor on yesteryear's films. While looking back at her work with Rishi Kapoor, Poonam highlighted how "Chintu" (Rishi Kapoor's nickname) added special magic to film songs in his special ways. She shared, "I've learnt a lot from him (Rishi Kapoor). I think Rishi Kapoor was probably the only actor who could sing a sad song with a smile. And later, when I saw a lot of Raj Kapoor films, I found out that Raj uncle (Raj Kapoor) also used to (lip sync the songs similarly)...those were unhappy songs, but he would have a smile on his face and the tragedy was still there." "It wasn't as if you're smiling and it's a happy smile. It was a sad smile, you know. So Rishi Kapoor had that quality that he could make you feel absolutely emotional just by a look and the way he sang songs. He used to look so endearing when he would be singing songs," Poonam added. During the interview, Poonam also recalled the Kapoor family's warm hospitality, sharing a funny anecdote from her dining experience at Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor's house. "The whole unit used to be pampered by the Kapoors' food. I remember I did one film with RK Banner, I mean, we were more interested in knowing what's there for lunch than the shooting. Raj uncle would be there in his cottage. And we did a lot of shooting in the RK studio. Be it Raj uncle or Dabboo (Randhir Kapoor) or Chintu (Rishi Kapoor), they treated everyone to warm hospitality. Proper Punjabi khana...I don't think they would ever serve pizzas in their house," she quipped. "They make a lot of effort. I remember that after late evening, even their eating manners would change. So I remember going to Rishiji's house, Neetu had made a plate for him and me. And I'm saying, 'Neetu, don't put so much dal. I'm not going to eat so much dal.' Chintu says, 'don't worry, I'll take.' And with his hand, he's taken the dal and put it on his plate. I said, 'Chintu, what are you doing? Who takes dal with their hand?' But, you know, so they were like that. Very informal," Poonam reminisced. Poonam and Rishi Kapoor were a popular pair in the eighties. They had worked together in films such as Zamana, Biwi O Biwi, Ek Chadar Maili Si, and Yeh Vaada Raha. NDTV Exclusive: Shefali Jariwala's Doctor On Her Last Visit
Mumbai: Actor-model Shefali Jariwala, who died on June 27, was on anti-ageing treatment, her doctor confirmed to NDTV on condition of anonymity. The doctor told NDTV that Shefali last visited them this March, three months before her sudden death shook the showbiz industry. The doctor did not reveal what medication or treatment that Shefali was on, citing doctor-patient confidentiality. Shefali was on anti-ageing treatment for the past eight years, sources told NDTV. Glutathione and Vitamin C, both used to lighten skin colour and improve texture, were reportedly part of Shefali's anti-ageing treatment. Shefali was brought to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in suburban Mumbai around 11.15 pm (Friday), where the on-duty doctor declared her dead on arrival, a hospital source told NDTV on June 28. The actress's postmortem reports are likely to come today, June 30. Initial reports into her death suggested that she died of a cardiac arrest. The Investigation So Far Mumbai Police is looking into all aspects of Shefali's medical history. "Which doctors Shefali was in contact with in the last 8 years, which medicines were prescribed to her, and whether she took some medicines on her own without consulting a doctor. All these aspects are being investigated," a source told NDTV on June 29. So far, the police have collected seven CCTV footage samples and recorded the statements of 14 people, including family members, domestic staff and those who interacted with Shefali regularly. Sources told NDTV that the police have also recorded the statement of the pharmacist of the medical store from where Shefali and her family used to procure medicines. As per the findings from the initial medical examination, "Shefali's death is said to have been due to low blood pressure, cardiac arrest and heavy gastric condition." The postmortem report is expected today, and will help determine the exact cause of Shefali's death. Who Was Shefali Jariwala? Shefali Jariwali came into the limelight in 2002 with the remix music video of the song Kaanta Laga. She was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 15. She was seen on reality TV shows Bigg Boss 13, and Nach Baliye 5 and Nach Baliye 7 with her husband Parag Tyagi. Shefali was married to Harmeet Singh, one half of the musician duo Meet Brothers, before marrying Parag Tyagi.
