Katy Perry nearly plummets from floating butterfly as giant prop malfunctions during San Francisco show
The 'Part of Me' singer was in San Francisco on Friday night performing as part of her Lifetimes Tour, when a giant butterfly prop she was riding malfunctioned as it hung suspended over the crowd.
As seen in several video clips shared by audience members on social media, Perry was in the midst of performing her 2013 hit 'Roar' at the Chase Centre when the prop — on which Perry was rigged — jerked and dropped suddenly.
Perry immediately stopped singing and managed to regain her balance and composure, at first looking up at the contraption that connected the butterfly to cables above.
As the prop swung, Perry soon began performing the song again.
The near-mishap is at least the second such incident at a major tour this summer, after a flying car prop featured in Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter tour tilted midair during a concert in Houston last month.
The singer was quickly lowered down and without injury, according to Beyoncé's entertainment and management company at the time.

Unreleased music by Beyonce along with footage, show plans and concert set lists have been stolen from a car in Atlanta rented by the singer's choreographer and one of her dancers, police say. The theft of the materials, stored on five thumb drives, happened on July 8, two days before Beyonce began a four-day residency at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Atlanta Police Department said it secured an arrest warrant for a suspect whose identity was withheld. Two MacBook laptops, Apple headphones, as well as luxury clothing and accessories were also reported stolen, according to the incident report. Beyonce's choreographer, Christopher Grant, and dancer Diandre Blue told police they parked their rental car, a 2024 Jeep Wagoneer, at a food hall in the city. The pair returned to the car an hour later to discover the trunk window had been damaged and two suitcases had been taken. Grant told officers "he was also carrying some personal sensitive information for the musician Beyonce," the police report stated. The report identifies a possible suspect vehicle as a 2025 red Hyundai Elantra. Responding officers were able to identify "light prints" at the scene, and security cameras in the parking lot captured the incident, according to the report.
