BN-PH seat talks for Sabah polls 98 per cent complete
He said discussions had been held to prevent any overlapping of contested seats between the two coalitions.
"This is what we have done in Sabah. Generally, I can say that negotiations for seat allocation between BN and PH are already 98 per cent complete.
"This cooperation was what secured us victories in the Mahkota state seat in Johor, Ayer Kuning in Perak, and Nenggiri in Kelantan," he said.
He said this during a press conference after opening the Tanjong Karang Umno division delegates' meeting at Dewan Dato Hormat here today.
At the same time, Asyraf reminded party members not to become arrogant in their efforts to cooperate with others.
"Umno is an open and dynamic party, as long as we never compromise our principles of struggle for religion and race," he said.
Asyraf also said Umno leaders had never discussed severing ties with any party ahead of the state election.
He said that while there is a possibility Umno may go solo, the party would still contest under the BN banner.
"Umno has never contested alone. We began in the first general election in 1955 with a three-party coalition (MIC, MCA and Umno).
"The political landscape changed in 1969, resulting in a new cooperation involving 14 parties under BN.
"Today, the political landscape is changing once again, and Umno must be wise in charting its direction.
"What matters is for Umno to remain strong and stay within the government structure to defend the agenda of Islam and other key matters," he said.
It was reported yesterday that Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan had said that the party is ready to face the Melaka election alone if there was no final decision on cooperation with PH in the state.

PMX gets ‘grilled-to-perfection' after claiming his overseas travel is to represent Malaysia, ain't for leisure
IN HIS quest to defuse public rage over his rampant travel abroad which culminated in billions of unverified 'potential investments' Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has found himself being thrown deeper into the fire. Brickbats – some funny, others derogatory – were seemingly hurled at him from all corners in these two related NST Online Facebook posts aptly headlined 'Anwar: I Travel Abroad to Represent Malaysia, Not for Leisure'. Speaking about his recent 24-hour journey from Brazil at the launch of the Madani Rakyat Terengganu 2025 Programme in Kuala Terengganu yesterday (July 13), PMX claimed that he often faces gruelling schedules but remains committed to his duties. 'You think I enjoy flying abroad? I represent Malaysia whenever I travel — it's not for leisure,' he replied to the amusement of learned and very much informed Malaysians who have seemingly lost faith in him. Instead of silencing his critics, little did PMX realise that 'silence is golden' would be the best policy for someone who is now living in a glass house. One stinging comment would be that his only son (from six children) Mohammad Ihsan Anwar being spotted during his recent three-nation tour, particularly during his official trip to Rome. 'In couple of his trips, there were claims that his son tag along,' one witty commenter hit out. 'Can he (PMX) explain on what capacity? If it's personal, can he show the supporting payments, it. air ticket, hotels, meals, etc? The commenter who is also a law practitioner further quantified that working 24×7 'doesn't make PMX a great guy or someone that we should appreciate'. Elaborating on the participation of PMX's son on his overseas trips, former Barisan Nasional (BN) strategic communication deputy director Datuk Eric See-To had on July 3 exposed that third child of PMX had also been spotted in PROTON's visit to Kazakhstan and even met with the country's PM. 'Before this, his face had appeared in several official visits of PMX or programmes involving Malaysian government delegations,' the opposition-slant (pro-Datuk Seri Najib Razak) influencer who also goes by the pseudonym Lim Sian See penned on his FB page. 'So, it's time for PMX to explain publicly what exactly is his son's official position? Does he work with PMX? Or with MITI (Investment, Trade ad Industry Ministry)? Or where? 'If PMX can twice announced the appointment of his daughter, Nurul Izzah, as an advisor to the PM and then advisor to Finance Minister (ie himself), why not be transparent about his son as well?' By the way, some teasing comments on PMX defending his overseas travels to rid Monday blues: – July 14, 2025 Main image credit: Che GuBard/Facebook

GRS must have nothing to do with Umno: LDP
Published on: Monday, July 14, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 14, 2025 Text Size: Chin said that if negotiations fail, both coalitions may contest independently in a friendly match with government formation discussions taking place post-election. Kota Kinabalu: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has called on Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to steer clear of any electoral alliance with Barisan Nasional-Umno in the coming 17th state election. LDP president Datuk Chin Su Phin pointed out the importance of maintaining good relations with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, regardless of the state election outcome. 'It is imperative that the coalition or party that wins has an amicable relationship with its federal counterparts,' Chin said following a unanimous decision by the LDP Supreme Council, Sunday. He said the GRS is likely to negotiate seat distribution with PH for the state polls, but pointed out that the federal coalition must have genuine commitment to working with GRS. He suggested PH limit itself to contesting no more than 20 seats. Chin said that if negotiations fail, both coalitions may contest independently in a friendly match with government formation discussions taking place post-election. He expressed particular concern about DAP's ambitions to contest six to eight Chinese-majority seats, saying this could squeeze out Chinese-based component parties within GRS. Addressing Chinese voters specifically, Chin cautioned against supporting Parti Warisan despite strong local party sentiment in Chinese-majority constituencies. He said Warisan's limited appeal beyond Chinese voters particularly among the Kadazandusun community and in Malay seats makes it unlikely to form government even if it wins all six Chinese-majority seats. 'If Warisan fails to form the State Government, Chinese voters will inevitably be labelled as the opposition,' he said, urging the community to exercise wisdom in their voting decisions. He called for continued GRS governance, citing political stability and economic growth under the current administration, adding that the government changes typically result in policy shifts that deter investment and hinder economic progress for two to three years. The LDP Supreme Council also approved a motion to freeze the Pantai Manis division during the meeting. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
