Indiana Fever forward poised to re-sign after seven-day contract ends

USA Today4 days ago
With the conclusion of her seven-day injury hardship waiver with the Indiana Fever occurring on August 1, forward Chloe Bibby appears poised to re-sign with the team for the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season as a scoring depth option.
Bibby started the season on the Golden State Valkyries, averaging 6.4 points on 40.7% shooting from the field, 42.1% from 3-point territory, and 100% from the free-throw line through five games played for the newest WNBA expansion franchise.
After being waived (a second time) by the Valkyries on June 30, with the team hampered with injuries at the time, the former Maryland Terrapin signed a seven-day contract with Indiana as a scoring depth option to make up for the lost offensive potential of injured guard Caitlin Clark.
With Bibby traveling alongside the team to Dallas, Texas, for their August 1 meeting with the Dallas Wings at the American Airlines Center, the likelihood that she will be staying with Indiana for the remainder of the 2025 season seems all but certain.
In her two games played with the fever, Bibby is averaging 9.0 points on 44.4% from the field, 50.0% from beyond the arc, and 85.7% from the charity stripe through 12 minutes of action across both games.
With the sudden offensive emergence of guard Aari McDonald, Indiana hopes that Bibby can offer a similar impact off the bench as the Fever continue their second-half playoff push while Clark continues to rehab her injured right groin.
The Fever and Wings will clash Friday, August 1, at American Airlines Center at 7:30 p.m. CT, with the game being broadcast on ION.

Colts QB depth chart: What we know about Anthony Richardson vs. Daniel Jones

Training camps are in full swing across the NFL. Teams are ironing out their depth charts and making roster moves to get down to 53 active players by the time the regular season rolls around. This week offers a first glimpse at those depth charts as teams release them ahead of their first preseason games. That includes the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts are entering year three with coach Shane Steichen and quarterback Anthony Richardson, who the team selected No. 4 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Richardson's played just 15 games over his first two seasons and gone 8-7 as a starter. This offseason, Indianapolis signed veteran quarterback Daniel Jones to provide some depth at the position with starting experience. Given Richardson's injury history, having Jones in the building could help keep the team afloat should he miss time again. But Indianapolis made the curious move to not commit to a QB1 in their first depth chart announcement of training camp. Instead, they list the starting quarterback as Richardson or Jones. 'Both have been doing a really good job,' Steichen said earlier this week. 'Both of them have made plays at a high level the last couple days, and that's what you want to see. You want to see growth, you want to see completions, you want to see the offense moving up and down the field.' Steichen hasn't indicated which way he's leaning for the starter in the Colts' preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens on the road. He stated that both Richardson and Jones will see time but hasn't specified who will be under center to start the game. Even then, Steichen's made it clear that the competition is far from decided. 'They'll play a good amount,' Steichen said. 'I mean, one will play a good amount this game, and the next one will probably play a good amount the next game.' Riley Leonard, the Colts' sixth-round pick (No. 189 overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft, is behind Richardson and Jones on the depth chart as QB2. Former undrafted free agent Jason Bean rounds out the depth chart. Indianapolis plays Baltimore in its preseason opener on Thursday, Aug. 7 before facing the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 16 and the Cincinnati Bengals on Aug. 23. All the NFL news on and off the field. Minnesota Lynx' Napheesa Collier out with ankle sprain; reevaluation expected "in coming weeks," team says

Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier will be sidelined after spraining her right ankle against the Las Vegas Aces on Saturday, the team announced Monday, though it's unclear how long she will be out. In a news release, the Lynx said Collier's injury was confirmed after she underwent an MRI at Mayo Clinic Square in downtown Minneapolis. The team said she will be "reevaluated in the coming weeks." The MVP frontrunner appeared to step on teammate Alanna Smith's left foot and immediately went down near Las Vegas' bench with the Lynx holding a 92-49 lead late in the third quarter. She attempted to stand but sat back down on the court, writhing in pain, and was immediately surrounded by Aces starters A'ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young, NaLyssa Smith and Kierstan Bell, who all held towels to shield her from exposure. Collier's teammates, coaches and trainers eventually made their way to the opposite end of the court to tend to the 2025 All-Star MVP. The WNBA on Monday announced Collier as the Western Conference Player of the Month for July. The Lynx (24-5) have three games this week, including a WNBA Finals rematch in New York on Sunday against the Liberty. New York has its own injury issues with Breanna Stewart out for a few weeks with a bone bruise in her right knee. Minnesota has a 5 1/2 game lead on New York in the standings.
