FCOI arrests two veterinarians over embezzlement, falsified health certificates
The Fedral Commission of Integrity-FCOI said on Saturday that two veterinarians had been arrested in Nineveh province for alleged embezzlement and falsification of veterinary health certificates used to facilitate the unauthorized transport of livestock and poultry.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the commission said a team from its Nineveh Investigation Directorate, acting on a judicial warrant, detained the two suspects in separate operations at the Mosul Dam veterinary quarantine post.
The veterinarians are accused of issuing non-compliant health inspection certificates that lacked accurate information about incoming goods, enabling them to bypass security checkpoints in return for bribes.
The statement added that the suspects also embezzled public funds and manipulated official documentation in coordination with livestock traders.
Authorities confiscated forged certificates and altered receipts as evidence. Both suspects were referred to a specialized anti-corruption court in Nineveh, which ordered their detention under Article 315 of the Penal Code and Resolution No. 160 of 1983.
The arrests come amid an ongoing campaign to combat administrative corruption in Iraq's public institutions.
