Bengaluru BJP MP Tejasvi Surya proposes 15-point plan to fix Bengaluru's infrastructure
In a letter to Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on May 24, the MP stated that he could not take part in the meeting of MPs and MLAs from Bengaluru on urgent issues concerning the city's infrastructure as he is currently part of an all-party delegation visiting the US to convey India's message against terrorism after the Pahalgam terror attack and 'Operation Sindoor'.
Surya offered short-term and medium-term solutions to tackle the city's problems. He recommended a 60-day priority plan to restore ward-wise footpaths and drains, scientific remapping of stormwater drains, and congestion relief on 12 high-traffic corridors.
He favoured formation of a war-room for real-time coordination of roadwork and debris clearance. In his 60-180-day medium-term plan, the MP stressed the need for expansion of Metro services with fast-tracked execution and weekly reviews.
He referred to the addition of 4,500 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme to enhance last-mile connectivity. The MP suggested measures such as phasing out old vehicles, implementing staggered institutional timings, and enforcing strict lane discipline to ease traffic congestion in the city. He proposed the formation of 'Bengaluru 2050 Vision Group', a dedicated think-tank covering urban mobility, water management, heritage, environment, and design.
This group could craft a long-term vision, 'Bengaluru 2050', to focus on sustainable growth, ecological protection, and integrated urban planning beyond short-term solutions. Among structural reforms, Surya called for operationalisation of BMLTA with a full-time managing director and leadership appointments at K-RIDE and BMRCL to strengthen Bengaluru's public transport systems. He called for shifting focus from expensive road projects to public transit expansion.

CM will hold meeting on MIDC issues in Pimpri Chinchwad, says minister Misal
Pune: Minister of state Madhuri Misal on Monday said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis would soon convene a meeting to address various issues industrial units and residents faced in MIDC areas in and around Pimpri Chinchwad. Responding to concerns raised by BJP MLA Mahesh Landge in the ongoing assembly session, Misal admitted to problems in MIDC zones and said a joint meeting would be held soon at the chief minister's office in Mumbai. She said officials concerned from different government departments and representatives from industrial associations would be invited for this meeting. Landge highlighted that there were a total of 3,470 industrial units in Pimpri Chinchwad. They faced persistent infrastructure issues such as poor roads, drainage problems and unreliable power supply despite paying around Rs320 crore annually in taxes to the municipal corporation, he said. The spate of arrests and detentions of Bengali-speaking migrants in Odisha, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Delhi — some of which are under the glare of Calcutta High Court — has prompted TMC to rekindle the "Bengali identity and pride" issue that had derailed BJP's strong Hindutva campaign in the 2021 assembly polls. We are noticing with concern that despite our repeated protests, BJP-governed states are arresting and detaining Bengali-speaking Indian citizens as suspected Bangladeshis. Bengalis stay in West Bengal and across India. They are Indian citizens. This is a despicable conspiracy against Bengal that anyone who speaks Bengali is being branded a foreigner in his own country. An estimated 22.5 lakh migrant labourers from Bengal work across construction, brick kilns, factories and informal sectors across the country. "There are over 1.5 crore migrant workers in Bengal who live with dignity. But the same cannot be said for BJP-ruled states, where Bengalis are being treated as infiltrators in their own country. Speaking Bengali does not make one Bangladeshi," said TMC MP Samirul Islam, who also heads the state migrant workers' welfare board. "Harassment of Bengali workers is proof that this is part of a pattern of hatred towards Bengali-speaking people. Do these migrant labourers now need separate visas to visit BJP-governed states?" he asked. Meanwhile, in Delhi, Trinamool concluded its 24-hour dharna at Jai Hind Camp on Tuesday over the inhuman living conditions faced by locals. Speaking at the conclusion of the sit-in protest, TMC's RS deputy leader Sagarika Ghose said being Bengali-speakers was the residents' only crime. "Electricity has been disconnected, there is a water problem, roads are full of slush and houses are getting flooded during rains. This is the kind of sub-human condition that these citizens are being forced to live in," Ghose said.
