OPEN// Egypt's hosting of AfSA premises quantum leap in Africa's action track
CAIRO, April 20 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty asserted that Egypt's hosting the premises of the African Space Agency (AfSA) is a quantum leap in the action track of the African continent.
This comes from Egypt's deep belief in its pioneering role in the continent and its commitment to support the African integration efforts, Abdelatty said.
The Egyptian state exerted intensified efforts to establish AfSA which represents the vision of 'Africa We Want', which is part of Agenda 2063, he said.
This came during Abdelatty's participation on Sunday in the inauguration of the premises of AfSA in Cairo.
This step will be decisive in the track of the African joint action, especially in the fields of technology and space policies.
AfSA will be a platform to promote cooperation between the African countries in the peaceful uses of space, exchanging expertise, building capabilities, and unifying the African stances in the international gatherings, especially within the framework of the UN, he said.
He pointed out the importance of the openness of the AfSA for cooperation with research institutions, universities, and international space agencies to contribute to laying down strong African rule in space science and technology.
Egypt exerted strenuous technical and concrete efforts throughout the past years to render the project of the agency successful, he said.
AfSA aims at promoting the capabilities of Africa in space technology to achieve social and economic development according to the vision of the African Union. (MENA)

The two sides discussed expanding collaboration in the iron and steel sector, a strategic industrial priority for Egypt. Al-Wazir underlined Egypt's determination to localise heavy industries, enhance domestic manufacturing, and grow exports through the adoption of advanced global technologies and mutually beneficial partnerships. At a roundtable hosted by the Turkish Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (MÜSİAD), the minister addressed leading Turkish investors across sectors such as textiles, chemicals, food processing, logistics, and energy. He presented Egypt's competitive edge, including its young and cost-efficient labour force, prime geographic location linking Africa, Asia, and Europe, and preferential access to international markets through over a dozen free trade agreements. These advantages, he said, establish Egypt as a prime hub for manufacturing, exports, and global trade. Al-Wazir also took part in the forum's high-level ministerial session, 'The Future of Connectivity in a Fragmented World,' alongside Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and representatives from the United Nations. In his remarks, he spotlighted Egypt's investment in multimodal transport corridors that integrate regional production zones with international trade routes. He stressed the central role of the Suez Canal—through which over 100 vessels transit daily—and detailed ongoing upgrades to Egypt's seaports, logistics centres, and high-speed rail lines as part of a broader vision to reinforce the country's logistical connectivity. Further advancing regional cooperation, Al-Wazir met with Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Grozdan Karadjov to accelerate bilateral agreements in maritime and logistics. Key among these was a planned memorandum of understanding between Alexandria Port and Bulgaria's Port of Burgas. The talks also explored joint industrial ventures focused on technology transfer and coordinated exports to African markets. Al-Wazir stressed that Egypt is transitioning from a traditional transit corridor to a fully integrated hub for transport and production. He presented Egypt as a stable and strategic partner within global supply chains, contributing actively to initiatives such as China's Belt and Road Initiative, the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC), and the emerging Development Road linking Iraq, the Gulf, and Europe. Concluding his visit, Al-Wazir reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to strengthening regional and global economic integration. He extended an open invitation to international partners—particularly from Türkiye and Bulgaria—to invest in Egypt's transport infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. Egypt joins FAO General Committee as agriculture ministers meet in Rome
Egypt was unanimously elected as a member of the General Committee of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) conference, which began its 44th session in Rome on Monday. Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk is attending the event, which was opened by FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu. The General Committee, comprising only seven of the organisation's 194 member states, is responsible for reviewing all decisions and conclusions from the conference and providing recommendations for their final adoption. The opening session also saw the election of a new conference president and vice-presidents. The FAO Conference is the organisation's supreme governing body and typically meets every two years to discuss policy and make decisions on global food and agriculture issues. This session is set to address numerous food security and agricultural topics that are currently high on the international agenda. Farouk stated that the conference is a vital platform for discussing current global challenges related to food security, climate change, and sustainable agricultural development. 'Its importance is increasing in this critical phase, which requires concerted international efforts to find innovative and sustainable solutions to ensure the provision of sufficient and safe food for all countries,' he said in a statement. The minister noted that Egypt is participating in the conference to exchange expertise and leading practices in areas such as smart agriculture, water resource management, and climate change adaptation, in order to enhance its food security and reduce its food gap. Saad Mousa, the Supervisor of Foreign Agricultural Relations at the ministry, said Farouk's participation reflects Egypt's role in U.N. agricultural organisations, particularly the FAO. Egyptian, French FMs stress importance of restoring Gaza ceasefire, ensuring humanitarian aid access
CAIRO, June 27 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stressed the urgent need to restore the ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the unhindered flow of humanitarian aid, as living conditions in the besieged Palestinian enclave continue to deteriorate. Spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khallaf, said that during a phone call on Thursday, the two ministers discussed recent developments in Gaza, following the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel. During the telephone conversation, they addressed key regional developments and explored avenues to further strengthen ties between Egypt and France. Abdelatty highlighted the genuine efforts spearheaded by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to swiftly secure a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, underscoring the critical role of the international community in halting Israeli aggression in both Gaza and the West Bank. The ministers also addressed the issue of Palestinian state recognition, Barrot updated his Egyptian counterpart on preparations for the upcoming high-level international conference, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, which aims to promote a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the implementation of the two-state solution. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's firm commitment to a just and sustainable solution, grounded in the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with Al Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) as its capital. The spokesperson added that the two ministers concurred on the necessity for both Iran and Israel to fully comply with the ceasefire, stressing the importance of concrete de-escalation measures to pave the way for renewed political and diplomatic initiatives.
