4.15 Carlisle – Cumberland Plate Handicap (Class 4, 1m 3f)
For some reason three-year-olds rarely contest the Cumberland Plate, but the sole runner from that age group won last year's race and there are two of the Classic generation here in ROGUE MILLIONS and Cayman Dancer.
This season's renewal has attracted a field of only nine, which is disappointing for a £30,000 race – big money for a Class 4 handicap. Of the starters, Rogue Millions, who sneaks in off the ceiling rating of 87, is potentially just better than his rivals.
He's still a work in progress and will need to settle to get this trip, but he's pretty talented, in line with his decent pedigree, most recently picking up well to win a Chepstow maiden.
5.30 Kempton – Class 6 Handicap (7f)
NUTCRACKER (NAP) shaped way better than the bare result suggests when fifth on his handicap debut at Lingfield this month.
He had been off for five months and the ground was testing, but having travelled well, he made a big move from the rear into contention, before tiring late.
The selection ought to be better for that outing and gets a sharper test here, which is in his favour.

What does NAP mean?
NAP is a word used in betting circles to describe a prediction that a tipster thinks has a particularly strong chance of winning.
Many horse racing tipsters pick out a 'NAP of the day', which is their favoured selection from all the races across the different meetings.
The term NAP derives from the French card game Napoleon. When players of this game thought they had a particularly strong hand that they would win with, they would shout 'Napoleon'.
What is an each-way bet?
An each-way bet is a popular type of wager, particularly with horse racing fans. It is essentially two bets, both of which have the same size stake.
An each-way bet features one bet on the selection to win and the other bet on the selection to place.
So a £10 each-way bet will cost you a total of £20. There will be one £10 bet on the selection to win and another £10 on the selection to place.
It's a popular bet because it offers punters the chance of a return, even if the horse in question fails to win. Bookmakers will pay out at a stated percentage of the odds for a place finish, for example one-fifth of the starting price (SP) for finishing in the first three.
The more runners there are in a horse race, the more places will be on offer. In races that feature lots of runners, the horses will be available at bigger odds, making an each-way bet a wise choice.

Glorious Goodwood day five: Betting odds and race rundown
THE RAIN that has fallen in the past 48 hours has had a significant impact on the underfoot conditions. Many intended runners for the final day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival have already been withdrawn due to the ground, and it will be a case of finding the horses that will adapt best to the conditions. The Stewards' Cup is the biggest betting race of the day, whereas the quality lies in the Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes as Term Of Endearment looks to go back-to-back in the race. Win singles and each way bets from the best horse racing betting sites: 1:20 Group 3 Coral Glorious Stakes (4yo+) - 1m4f None of the seven in here can be fully trusted to run to their mark. Al Aasy, last season's winner, sits at the top of the betting, but he will not want any more rain to fall. If the rain were to persist, his participation here would be questionable. Candleford found his form once again, but he needs to improve on that to have a major say here. That leads to ARABIAN CROWN, who was behind Al Aasy at Sandown in April, but the underfoot conditions will be right up his street here. He has twice won on soft ground in the past, and with his preferred conditions now, he may be able to reverse form with Al Aasy and prove hard to beat. Mount Atlas has winning form on soft ground, and if he can kick on from his latest win, he can outrun his odds here. 2024 Winner: Al Aasy J: Jim Crowley T: William Haggas Odds: 3/1 Our pick: ARABIAN CROWN 1:55 Coral Summer Handicap (3yo+) - 1m6f Extra stamina reserves will be tested here, and the will to win will be truly tested to the maximum. Dancing In Paris needs to leave his last run behind, but he did too much throughout the race, which cost him in the finish. He will need to settle much better here, and if he does, he has already shown that this mark is well within his reach. Joseph O'Brien sends over Aeronautic, who comes here on the back of an over three-length fifth to French Master at Royal Ascot. He won on good to yielding at Leopardstown, so there is a reason to be optimistic that he will handle softer conditions. He looks set to run well off the same mark. WONDER LEGEND was set an enormous task in the Ascot Gold Cup, where he was never comfortable and was eventually pulled up. He came into Ascot on a fast upward curve, winning three of his previous four starts in impressive fashion. Yes, you must forgive him his run at Ascot, which it is easy to do, and now back in handicap company, he looks set to go well off top weight. 2024 Winner: Align The Stars J: Joe Fanning T: Charlie Johnston Odds: 10/3Fav Our pick: WONDER LEGEND 2:30 Group 2 Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (3yo+) - 1m6f Goodie Two Shoes comes in here on the back of three wins in a row, the latest of them being in Group 3 company. All of his wins have come on good ground, and any time she has come up against softer conditions, she hasn't run her race. She will need the ground to dry out here, so it can be worth siding with last year's winner, TERM OF ENDEARMENT. A winner of this race last season for Henry de Bromhead, the daughter of Sea The Moon has yet to get off the mark in three runs for her new connections. She was sent off a well-backed odds-on favourite over two miles at Sandown, but she never shaped that two miles would be truly within reach. She now drops back to her optimum trip on the ground that she has shown winning form on in a Cork Group 3. She will not mind what condition the ground is in, and she has every chance of defending her crown here. 2024 Winner: Term Of Endearment J: Billy Lee T: Henry de Bromhead Odds: 15/2 Our pick: TERM OF ENDEARMENT 3:05 Coral Stewards' Cup (3yo+) - 6f As expected, the stewards' cup is a challenging puzzle to solve. Hammer The Hammer was a wide-margin winner at Southwell and Chester, before going on to be beaten a length by Adrestia over five furlongs at Royal Ascot. That form has been franked this week, with the first and second going agonisingly close in the Shaker Handicap here on Tuesday. The return to six furlongs is a plus, and given that he is a strong stayer at the trip, he may find more if this turns into a test of stamina. Two Tribes got right back to form when winning a twenty-one-runner handicap at Ascot last weekend. He drops to six furlongs here, but his extra stamina may come into play, and if he kicks on again, he is a big player. The one who gets the tentative vote is CIRCE. This ground versatile filly was a good winner last time out, and before that, she was seen running well in deep ground at Epsom. She's a strong traveller who will get a good toe into the race from her draw, and if she gets the break, she is sure to go close under Ryan Moore. Orazio is talented but frustrating. However, one of these will fall for him sooner rather than later. Vadream has been in the doldrums of late, but his mark is reflected in that; he is looking extremely well handicapped now. And on ground he handles, it could spark a revival. Get It (last year's winner), Elmonjed, Run Boy Run, and Kroker all have place chances. Our pick: CIRCE 3:45 Whispering Angel Handicap (3yo 0-105) - 7f Dancing In The Storm made a winning handicap debut at Sandown but could only manage a fourth-place finish behind Mudbir back over the same course and distance. Things didn't go smoothly on the day, and she can be given another chance here. Course and distance winner Consolidation ran well in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot. He was only beaten five lengths on the day, and that performance can be marked up, given that there was a huge high draw bias on the day. HEADMASTER is attractively bred and got off the mark in good style at the third time of asking. Given his pedigree, Headmaster should be well capable off this mark. By Dubawi out of One Master, a multiple Group 1 winner on deep ground, Headmaster can take his form to a new level in conditions he should relish. Another to take note of is Rare Change, who can be forgiven for his latest run on the all-weather and can resume his progress here. Our pick: HEADMASTER 4:20 British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (2yo) - 7f There are plenty of experienced runners in here, and Exclusive Code, who was turned over as favourite in what looked a decent maiden (third has won since), is a good starting point. He looks set to raise his game here and will be playing a major role in the finish (dam handled soft ground). Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole's stable have been running well of late, and Island Bear can go well at big odds on the back of his third in a Salisbury maiden that is working out well. However, this should really revolve around Aidan O'Brien's ISAAC NEWTON. He finished runner-up to stablemate New Zealand at the Curragh (third Action runs at Galway today), and given that Isaac Newton wasn't given a hard time to finish a head second, it's easy to see him making it second time lucky here. 2024 Winner: Hott Shott J: Rossa Ryan T: Richard Hughes Odds: 5/1 Our pick: ISAAC NEWTON 4:55 Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap (3yo+ 0-95) - 1m1f Gladius still showed signs of greenness when winning at Sandown, and given the strength of that win, he can take his hike in the weights in his stride. He is respected as is Boyfriend and his Newmarket concourer, Dutch Decoy (also declared yesterday). The Charlie Johnston runner has found his form once again, winning two in a row. He has gone up a total of ten pounds for those two wins, but he is still well in on his old form. Should he run here, you have to give him massive respect in his current form. Treasure Time was a good fourth on his comeback, and with fitness now on his side, this progressive gelding can fight it out where it matters the most. However, siding with two-time course and distance winner ALPHA CRUCIS can pay off. His two wins here came on deep ground, and given the hope that we will still be dealing with soft ground here, he comes here with a massive each-way chance off a four-pound higher mark than his last win. 🕔 Qatar Goodwood day five schedule TIME RACE DISTANCE 1:20 Group 3 Coral Glorious Stakes 1m4f 1:55 Coral Summer Handicap 1m6f 2:30 Group 2 Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes 1m6f 3:05 Coral Stewards' Cup 6f 3:45 Whispering Angel Handicap 7f 4:20 British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes 7f 4:55 Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap 1m1f 📺 How to watch day five of the Qatar Goodwood Festival Location: Goodwood, United Kingdom Date/Time: Saturday, 2nd August 2025. ITV Racing tips: Goodwood and Newmarket tips, Saturday August 2

Getting back on slow ground should help ARABIAN CROWN and he may be able to adopt his favoured front-running tactics. A smart two-year-old and early three-year-old, Charlie Appleby's runner has lost his way since resuming this term, but he has had some excuses, most recently finding the ground too fast at Newmarket when returning from a 76-day break, his first start since being gelded. 1.55 Goodwood – Class 2 Handicap (1m 6f; ITV1 & Racing TV) FRENCH DUKE won a 1m 4f handicap at this meeting last year. He has had only one start this term, struggling to make an impression in a handicap over the same trip at Royal Ascot, but Roger Varian's runner could build on that. His connections have been working on getting him settled and, if he switches off OK he could improve for this step up in trip. This course evidently suits, he handles slow ground and he has untapped potential. Selection: French Duke 1pt win @ 4/1 with Betfred If you already have a Betfred account and are looking for a new bookmaker to use on this week's racing, check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts 2.10 Newmarket – Nursery Handicap (Class 2, 6f; ITV1 & Racing TV) RUBY'S ANGEL has been a beaten favourite on all three of her starts, but she has been running to a fair level and might prove ahead of her mark in her first handicap. Hugo Palmer's filly most recently finished one place behind Awaafi at Haydock, only a neck behind that rival, but she had been off for two months before that outing. 2.30 Goodwood – Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2, 1m 6f; ITV1 & Racing TV) This is a good, competitive staying event for fillies and mares that includes last year's winner Term Of Endearment, but the vote goes to the Joseph O'Brien-trained GOODIE TWO SHOES, who has won her last three starts in Ireland, most recently a Group 3 over 1m 6f at Fairyhouse. 3.05 Goodwood – Stewards' Cup (Heritage Handicap, 6f; ITV1 & Racing TV) Get It made all in this race last year and again in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot in June, but the ground may be slower than he wants this time. There's also Commanche Falls, who won it in 2021 and 2022, however others make more appeal now. It might not be that imaginative, but it seems like backing PUROSANGUE and HAMMER THE HAMMER would give one a fair chance of being on the winner. Both seem likely to go well. Purosangue was well beaten as the 9/2 favourite for this race last year, but slower ground this time is in his favour and he was second in the 2023 Molecomb Stakes at this meeting, so the track isn't an issue. He comes into this off a nice run in the Wokingham, when ninth of 28 on ground faster than ideal. Hammer The Hammer is a highly progressive three-year-old, most recently finishing second in the Palace of Holyroodhouse at Royal Ascot. This test should suit him and he holds Group 1 entries. Selection: Purosangue 1pt win @ 15/2 with Betfred 3.20 Newmarket – Chalice Stakes (Listed, 1m 4f; ITV1 & Racing TV) This fillies' event isn't strong for the class and maybe SILENT LOVE can progress enough to take it and emulate her dam, Haddith, a Listed winner at Newmarket's other course for the same connections. Silent Love won a maiden at the third attempt, her success coming over 1m 3f at Kempton in the manner of an out-and-out galloper who will be suited by this added emphasis on stamina. Jockey Billy Loughnane has a tremendous record (9-16 before Friday evening's racing) when teaming up with trainer Charlie Appleby . 3.45 Goodwood – Class 2 Handicap (7f; ITV1 & Racing TV) There are a few nice types in this strong-looking three-year-old event, but MUDBIR is hard to ignore. This John & Thady Gosden-trained runner has had only four starts, most recently taking his form to a new level in winning a useful 7f handicap at Sandown. The runner-up from that race ran creditably from a tricky draw here on Wednesday. It's hard to fathom how the handicapper has nudged Mudbir up only 2lb for that, leaving him on a mark of 91. That's an underestimation of this close relation to the same connections' dual Group 1 winner Nazeef. He's also a half-brother to their dual top-level scorer Mostahdaf. Free-to-view coverage ITV4 – 9.30-10.30am: The Opening Show ITV1 – 1.00-4.00pm: Live racing from Glorious Goodwood and Newmarket Saturday's UK and Irish racing Flat Goodwood (1.20-4.55, Racing TV) Thirsk (1.38-5.50, Racing TV) Doncaster (1.45-5.20, Sky Sports Racing) Newmarket (2.10-5.05, Racing TV) Lingfield (5.10-8.15, Sky Sports Racing) Hamilton (5.55-9.00, Racing TV) Mixed (Flat and jumps) Galway (2.02-6.05, Racing TV) Are there any other horses of interest away from the ITV cameras? Yes, Dubai Beach in the 4.05 at Thirsk. She was beaten at short odds at Kempton last time, but it may still be worth buying into the form of her Chelmsford win two starts back, when she fairly bolted up. The runner-up and fourth both won next time out. What does NAP mean? NAP is a word used in betting circles to describe a prediction that a tipster thinks has a particularly strong chance of winning. Horse racing tips: Sunday, August 3
Ron Wood's selections NAP: Celandine (3.52, Chester) 1pt win @ SP with William Hill ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Other: Arundel (4.12, Yarmouth) 1pt win @ SP with William Hill ⭐⭐⭐ Odds provided by Betfred and correct at the time of writing. Stars denote strength of selection (max 5). If you already have a William Hill account, check out more free bets from the UK's best betting sites, reviewed by our experts 3.52 Chester – Queensferry Stakes (Listed, 6f; Sky Sports Racing) If rain doesn't get into the ground, CELANDINE must go well in this. She won last year's Group 2 Lowther Stakes at York and made a promising return in July when third in a Group 3 contest at the same venue, selected on these pages. Ed Walker's filly travelled really well that day, so much so that she looked to have the speed for 5f and was again selected on these pages for Friday's Group 2 King George Stakes at Goodwood, only to be withdrawn from that race because of the slow ground. Celandine stays at 6f for this race, but Chester is a sharp, turning track, which should suit her, and she's drawn low in stall two. She is entered in three Group 1 races and it will be disappointing if she can't take advantage of this drop in class, just as long as the ground stays on the decent side. Selection: Celandine 1pt win @ SP with William Hill 4.12 Yarmouth – Class 5 Handicap (1m 2f; Sky Sports Racing) The Ed Dunlop-trained ARUNDEL has been progressive since stepping up to this trip and going handicapping, with two seconds either side of a win. His most recent runner-up finish came off a two-month break at Newmarket so it's reasonable to think he can come again for that. Cheekpieces are added and Billy Loughnane is a good booking. Where is William Buick riding on Sunday? Buick is in Germany for their 'Oaks', a Group 1 race for three-year-old fillies in which he rides the Charlie Appleby-trained Spirited Style, who won a Listed race at Newmarket last time out. And what about Ryan Moore? Moore is also in Germany for the same race. He partners the Aidan O'Brien-trained Garden Of Eden, who most recently won the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot. There's little between Garden Of Eden and Spirited Style on the figures and there's a good chance they will be superior to the local runners. Okay, so what time does the German Oaks go off and can I bet on it? The race takes place on Sunday at Dusseldorf (2.40 BST) and yes, bookmakers will be taking bets on it. It's not slated for TV coverage, but one of the racing channels may show it and likewise some bookmakers may stream it live. It will also be live on YouTube. Is there anything else of note on Sunday? Yes, another Group 1 race, the Prix Rothschild, over a mile for fillies and mares aged three-year-olds and upwards, takes place at Deauville in France. It's set for 3.40 BST and will be on Sky Sports Racing. This is a fascinating race, although Moore has opted to ride in Germany rather than partner January (a regular selection on these pages) or Exactly for O'Brien. There's also Matilda, a filly who ran away with the German 2,000 Guineas, defeating male rivals, and has since been switched to France.
