Scripps Partners With Freewheel to Accelerate Advertiser Investment Across Women's Sports and Live Events Including the WNBA and NWSL
Bringing audiences the excitement of WNBA and NWSL games alongside original programming like the 'State Farm ® WNBA Friday Night Spotlight on ION,' ION is offering brands a premium way to be part of the energy around women's sports. Last month, Scripps also announced that ION will be the exclusive television home to both the inaugural SI Women's Games and the Elevance Health Women's Fort Myers Tip Off college basketball tournament.
Through this partnership, Scripps and Freewheel aim to not only increase investment in women's sports but also bring new advertisers to the arena.
'In addition to surges in viewership across our tentpole women's sports content on ION last year, we saw more than two dozen new brands advertising with Scripps,' says Seth Walters, head of CTV sales at Scripps. 'As the demand for women's sports content accelerates and viewers increasingly seek it on streaming and connected TV platforms, we want to continue to bring more brands into the fold through our expanding roster of live women's sports and our always-on distribution.'
FreeWheel's focus on the growth of programmatic advertising across sports and live events in streaming is reflected in an enhanced product suite built to handle the unique challenges of live TV. With expedited programmatic activation via creative pre-approvals, tools to anticipate real time viewership that ensure proper pacing and ad-serving at scale, FreeWheel is ensuring that programmatic advertising can support the continued growth of live sports across streaming.
'CTV monetization through the first eight weeks of this NWSL on ION season has seen a major uptick vs. last season, increasing over 200%,' says Walters. 'We are looking forward to working with FreeWheel to power this explosive streaming growth and unlock new monetization opportunities for the forthcoming season of the WNBA.'
The return of the WNBA on ION this Friday, May 16, follows a successful 2024 season where average viewership for the State Farm ® WNBA Friday Night Spotlight increased by 133% over 2023 and attracted more than 23 million unique viewers across games and wrap shows.
'Coordination between publishers, advertisers, and tech partners is critical to ensure the success of these live events,' says Greg Bel, Vice President, Head of Supply at FreeWheel. 'Scripps and ION are meaningful players in the connected TV space, and, through our partnership, we are ensuring that advertisers who rely on programmatic as their primary buying strategy can take advantage of the growing momentum of women's sports to put their brands in front of highly engaged audiences.'
The popularity of women's sports is set to continue growing, with 36% of fans who do not currently watch women's sports saying they plan to in the next 12 months, according to Comcast Advertising's 2024 ' Behind the Remote: A Deep Dive into Sports Viewership & Fandom ' report.

Nvidia CEO Tops Buffett in Billionaire Index After Cashing Out Stock
July 11 - Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) Chief Executive Jensen Huang offloaded approximately $36.4 million worth of company stock this week as part of a pre-set trading plan initiated in March, according to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The transaction involved the sale of 225,000 shares and follows an earlier sale in June valued at around $15 million. Huang's trading plan permits him to sell up to six million shares by year-end. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 4 Warning Signs with NVDA. Despite the sales, investor confidence in Nvidia appeared intact, with the stock rising about 1% in early Friday trading. Nvidia remains a key player in the AI chip market, which continues to see strong demand for its GPUs powering next-gen models. Huang's fortune has climbed significantly this year. Bloomberg data shows his net worth has surged by more than $29 billion in 2025, reaching $143 billion, putting him in close range of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.B) Chair Warren Buffett (Trades, Portfolio). Forbes estimates released Friday indicate Huang's wealth briefly overtook Buffett's, topping $145 billion compared to Buffett's $142 billion. The sales appear to be part of regular planning, with Nvidia's momentum and Huang's rising profile continuing to attract investor attention. This article first appeared on GuruFocus. As Nvidia hits $1trn, is it too late to buy the stock?
The Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) share price hit $164 this week, making it the world's first $4trn company. In other words, the stock market values the business higher than any in history. A high valuation is always something investors should pay attention to. But with the firm's revenues and profits still growing at a rapid rate, is it too late to consider buying the stock? A $4trn valuation is significant because it becomes difficult for the stock to go up sharply. Even a 5% increase means adding the market value of Rolls-Royce and BP combined. People who don't know what the law of large numbers is sometimes refer to this as 'the law of large numbers'. That's the wrong name for it, but it is a genuine challenge. It also applies at the level of revenues and profits. And the fact Nvidia is growing rapidly, with just under $150bn in annual sales and around $77bn in net income, is extremely impressive. On this front, however, I think there's room for optimism. While Nvidia might have a record market value, its revenues and profits are well below some other companies. Nvidia's $150bn in annual sales sounds like a lot – and it is. But it's less than half of what Apple ($400bn) or Alphabet ($360bn) generates in terms of revenues. In terms of net income, Apple ($97bn) and Microsoft ($97bn) both bring in more than Nvidia's $77bn per year. So it's not as though continuing to grow requires entering uncharted territory. To my mind, this makes a strong case for thinking that size isn't (yet) an issue for Nvidia when it comes to revenue and profit growth. But it does raise interesting questions about valuation. The reason Nvidia has a higher market value than Apple, Alphabet, and Microsoft isn't that it makes more money. It's that it trades at much higher multiples of sales and earnings. Nvidia is twice as expensive as Alphabet, with only half the revenues. On the face of it, that's not a combination that investors should be looking for. While sales have been growing strongly, some concerning signs are starting to appear. Specifically, revenue growth has been slowing down over the last couple of years. Source: TradingView It's still impressive and I don't think size is an issue in the short term. But the firm is clearly finding it difficult to maintain its previous extraordinary growth rates. Buying the stock at today's prices makes sense only if the firm's profits can break into previously uncharted territory. And slower sales growth is a reason to think this isn't guaranteed. Nvidia's $4trn market valuation is the highest in history, but I don't think this by itself should put investors off buying the stock. What they should focus on, in my view, is the underlying business. The business has rightly received a lot of attention for its rapid growth in sales and earnings. But it's still some way behind the likes of Apple and Microsoft – despite being more expensive. As a result, I think other stocks are more attractive at the moment. Nvidia is the most valuable company in the world, but it still has a lot to do to justify that status.
