Akash Deep reveals sisters cancer battle, dedicates match-winning show to her
Having taken 10 wickets in the series-levelling 336-run victory at the Edgbaston here on Sunday, the 28-year-old Bengal speedster well and truly arrived on the big stage with a performance of a lifetime on a track that was, for most part, a bowler's graveyard.
"I have not spoken about this with anyone but two months back, my sister was diagnosed with cancer. She will be very happy with my performance and this will bring some smiles back," he controlled his emotions while talking to Cheteshwar Pujara on 'Jio Hotstar'.
"Every time I picked up the ball, her thoughts and picture crossed my mind. This performance is dedicated to her. I want to tell her, 'Sis, we are all with you'," he added.
Speaking about the match, he was happy that the plans and the processes that he put in place worked out wonderfully during the game.
"My main aim was to hit the seam on hard lengths and let the ball move in. In case of Joe Root, my aim was to bowl from wide off the crease and get it to shape away.
"In case of Harry Brook, I knew that he is committed on the backfoot and wanted to hit the seam hard and on fuller length, getting it to move in," he explained the planning behind his wicket-taking deliveries.
A believer of living in the moment, Akash would like to savour his match-winning performance and not think about playing at the iconic Lord's cricket ground where the next Test will be held from July 10-14.
"I haven't thought about my game-plan for Lord's. But it won't be very different from what it has been here. There would be days when it would work and there would be days, it won't work.
"Our job is to stick to our strengths and believe in our processes," he said.

Their Wimbledon showdown will mark just the second time in history that the same two players have met in the men's singles finals at both Roland-Garros and Wimbledon in the same year. The feat was previously accomplished only by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal during their legendary rivalry from 2006 to 2008. When asked what fans can expect from Sunday's final, Sinner joked: 'I don't know! I mean, we saw in the last final that you never know. It's a huge honour for me to share the court once again with Carlos. We try to push each other to our limits. He's one of the players I love to watch—and I think you guys agree." 'KL countered all of that brilliantly': Rahul praised by Anil Kumble and Jonathan Trott for matured knock
Former cricketers Anil Kumble and Jonathan Trott were full of praise for India opener KL Rahul as he played another patient and matured knock on Day 2 of the Lord's Test to help his team stay in the hunt. read more KL Rahul exhibited some fantastic patient and matured batting as India made 145/3 by Stumps on Day 2 of Lord's Test. Image: Reuters India batter KL Rahul was praised by Anil Kumble and Jonathan Trott for his 'clinical' approach as he scored a hard-fought fifty on Day 2 of the Lord's Test against England. Rahul finished Day 2 of the third Test on an unbeaten 53 off 113 balls and helped India reach 145/3. India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (13), Karun Nair (40) and Shubman Gill (16) on Day 2, but Rahul stood tall with his mature knock, where he thwarted any possible danger with a straight bat defensive technique. He would be extremely crucial for India on Day 3 of the Lord's Test as they are still 242 runs behind England. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Kumble, Trott praise Rahul's clinical approach Former India captain Kumble praised Rahul for his maturity and discipline as India face a tricky Test on Day 3 after losing three crucial wickets. 'It was fantastic, a typical KL Rahul innings where he had to grind it out. It was a fiery spell from Jofra Archer — especially that first spell where he clocked over 150 kmph, with steep bounce and a bit of swing early on,' Kumble said on JioHotstar. 'KL countered all of that brilliantly. He was clinical in his approach and looked in control. It was a very disciplined and mature knock, and I'm sure he'll be satisfied with how he played.' Former England cricketer and current Afghanistan team head coach Trott pointed out that playing with a straight bat helped Rahul nullify the 'early threat.' 'I don't think you can go out there and dictate terms to the bowlers on this pitch. You have to be watchful, it's very much a new-ball wicket. KL was excellent in nullifying that early threat and played very straight,' he said. 'Just like Shubman Gill did in the second Test, using a straight bat, being patient when the ball's on the stumps, and capitalising on the bad balls,' Trott added.

Influenced by movie, Kerala schools to remove backbenchers through a new seating arrangement
Kollam, At Ramavilasom Vocational Higher Secondary School in Valakom in this South Kerala district, a proud tribute to former student G P Nandana greets visitors at the gate, celebrating her remarkable feat of securing the 2nd rank in Kerala and 47th nationally in the Civil Services Examinations. Influenced by movie, Kerala schools to remove backbenchers through a new seating arrangement But the school's acclaim doesn't end there, as it has also become a model for innovation in education, thanks to a unique classroom setup that eliminates the idea of backbenchers entirely. By rearranging seating to ensure every primary student gets equal attention, RVHSS has drawn admiration and imitation. Influenced by the recently released Malayalam movie, 'Sthanarthi Sreekuttan', the school has brought in an innovative seating arrangement where single row seats are aligned with the four walls of the classroom, so everyone sits in front benches. Eight schools in Kerala have already adopted this seating arrangement, and even a school in Punjab has adopted it. "I got a message that a school in Punjab has also adopted it after the principal saw the movie on the OTT platform. He also screened the movie for the students. I am happy that it got national attention," Vinesh Viswanathan, director of the movie 'Sthanarthi Sreekuttan', told PTI. He said the movie had just one scene showing this arrangement, as an idea implemented by a 7th standard student in the film. "It was his experience of being insulted sitting on the backbench that gave him such an idea. I never thought it would get such attention. It is not an idea created by us, but we did have such a seating arrangement earlier in classrooms, as part of District Primary Education Programme and we had lost it somewhere in between," Vinesh said. In fact, it was the farsightedness of Minister K B Ganesh Kumar, whose family runs RMVHSS, that paved the way to introducing this system in this school. Ganesh Kumar had watched the preview of 'Sthanarthi Sreekuttan', a year before its release and discussed the possibility of introducing it in primary classes in RMVHSS with the teachers. "Ganesh Kumar discussed this with us and his wife, who manages the school. We also agreed to start it in one class. The results we got were very positive and we introduced them to all lower primary classes," Sunil P Sekhar, Headmaster of RMVHSS, told PTI. He said this system enabled teachers to give equal attention to all students in the classroom and helped them monitor the students better. Moreover, it eliminated the concept of backbenchers and put all students at the forefront. He said many more schools have now shown interest in adopting this model. "Lower primary classes are where students learn a lot of new things and they naturally get rid of the concept or taboo of sitting on the backbenches. It also helps students to have a more direct interaction with the teachers," he added. Meera, a Lower Primary teacher, with more than 29 years of experience said she found this model more rewarding and productive compared to the conventional seating arrangements in school classrooms. "I am able to attend to each of the students in the classroom, and give better care to each of them. The students are also happy as they see the faces of all students in the classroom and also pay close attention to the teacher," Meera said. The teachers say that such systems are already practiced in countries like Finland and Norway with a better student-teacher ratio in schools. "I got some negative comments from the X platform, where some senior students have posted that they have 80 students in the classroom and how this system can be introduced in such a situation. "It is actually against our existing law to have so many students in a class, and the authorities are now taking action against that school," Vinesh Viswanath said. He said even Anand Mahindra has tweeted, saying it is a welcome move, though he personally likes the concept of backbenchers.
