Pittsburgh police make several arrests after another large crowd forms on South Side
At approximately 1 a.m. on July 5, officers in the 1400 block of Sarah Street responded to the sound of shots being fired. A man was apprehended on the street, and a firearm was recovered. A second man fled the area on foot. No injuries or property damage were reported, according to a report from Pittsburgh
At approximately 2 a.m., officers began to disperse the remaining crowd after multiple warnings. Individuals within the crowd began throwing projectiles and launching lit fireworks at officers and police vehicles.
Two officers sustained eye irritation from firework debris, and another was struck by a rock. All three officers declined medical attention.
Officers also used pepper spray only after they were targeted by the fireworks, but said gas was never used on the crowd.
By approximately 3 a.m., the crowd was fully dispersed.
Ronald Pelton, 23, of McKees Rocks, was charged with discharging a firearm, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and possession of a weapon.
Delricco White, 20, of Duquesne, was arrested after he was observed throwing fireworks at police. White is charged with aggravated assault, possessing instruments of a crime, recklessly endangering another person, propulsion of missiles, evading arrest on foot and disorderly conduct.
Kyliek McCracken, 18, of Ambridge, was also taken into custody after he was observed fleeing with White. He is facing charges of criminal conspiracy, disorderly conduct and evading arrest.
Officers made three other arrests and issued seven non-traffic citations. Two additional firearms were also recovered.
South Side sees increase in late-night incidents
Pittsburgh police have been called to an increasing number of similar incidents on the South Side.
East Carson Street filled up with another unruly crowd of 1,500 to 2,000 people in late June, prompting Pittsburgh police to call in assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies.
Following that incident, officers needed to deploy pepper spray to break up a large fight on East Carson Street.
In the wake of these incidents, the police union recently said the staffing situation is unprecedented.

That's where I had my kids,' she continued. The 45-year-old was born in Canada and taken to the U.S. by her parents when she was 10 years old. In 1999, when Cynthia was 19 years old, U.S. border officials determined she was living in the country without a legal status and an order was obtained to deport her. After being removed, Cynthia returned within a few months to the U.S. by driving to San Diego from Mexico, The Guardian reports. 'They didn't ask me for my citizenship – they didn't do nothing. They just waved me in,' Cynthia told KGTV. For the next 25 years, Cynthia is reported to have worked in Los Angeles where she paid her taxes and provided for her family. She has three children who were born in the U.S. As she navigated the onerous task of obtaining a green card, she was granted a permit by the Biden administration in 2024 that allowed her to work legally in the U.S. Meanwhile, the Trump administration in an emailed statement referred to Cynthia as an 'illegal alien from Canada,' The Guardian reports. In a statement to Newsweek, the spokesperson said Cynthia was 'previously deported and chose to ignore our law and again illegally entered the country.' The statement further noted that 're-entering the U.S. without permission after being deported is a felony, and it said Olivera would remain in Ice's custody pending removal to Canada,' Newsweek reports. Cynthia reportedly told officials that the couple can pay for her to fly to Canada, where she would live with a cousin in Mississauga, Ontario. Firework goes off in basement of Sheboygan County home, one injured
HOLLAND, Wis. (WFRV) – The resident of a Sheboygan County home was injured after a possible firework was discharged in his basement. Deputies with the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office say they were called to a home on South Pine Beach Road in the Town of Holland around 11:35 a.m. on Saturday, July 5. The 911 call was reportedly in reference to a 'possible' firework that was 'discharged' in the basement of the home. Improperly thrown away fireworks leads to garage fire in Fond du Lac home When authorities arrived, black smoke and flames were seen coming from the basement. Man stabbed to death at Oshkosh's Menominee Park after large fight, teen arrested
OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities launched a homicide investigation after a man was found stabbed to death near Oshkosh's Menominee Park on Saturday night. Officers with the Oshkosh Police Department say the stabbing happened inside Menominee Park in the 1200 block of East Irving Avenue in Oshkosh. Man flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries after head-on collision in Outagamie County Around 11 p.m. on July 5, officers were initially called to a crash in the 900 block of East Irving Avenue, where they found a man with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Further investigation revealed a fight taking place between 'several' people who were at Menominee Park. Officers say that is when the fight escalated, leading to the man being stabbed. The Fond du Lac Police Department later helped to arrest a 19-year-old man from Fond du Lac for first-degree intentional homicide.
