Nebraska softball's Big Ten run ends in 4-2 defeat against No. 9 UCLA
No. 19 Nebraska softball lost to No. 9 UCLA 4-2 in the Big Ten semi-finals.
Nebraska scored two runs in the sixth inning but ultimately fell short.
Jordy Bahl pitched a complete game for Nebraska, recording 11 strikeouts.

The No. 19 Nebraska softball team (39-13) entered the Big Ten semi-finals on Friday afternoon, facing off against No. 9 UCLA (49-9). In a close game, the Huskers fell 4-2.
The Bruins got on the board in the first, before adding two more in the fourth off a two-run home run. Nebraska responded in the sixth, scoring two runs. But UCLA pushed its lead to 4-2 with another home run in the sixth. The Huskers then went three-up, three-down, ending their Big Ten run.
Nebraska struck five hits in the game for two RBIs while the Bruins delivered nine hits for four RBIs.
Hannah Camenzind hit 2-for-3 on the day, driving in both of the Huskers' runs with a two-run RBI triple. Ava Bredwell, Ava Kuszak and Samantha Bland all earned a hit in the loss.
Jordyn Bahl (23-6) took the loss in the circle, pitching another complete game, allowing four runs off nine hits. She did fire 11 strikeouts in the loss, earning her ninth double-digit strikeout game of the year. Bahl also brought her season total up to 254, which puts her 9th in school history.

The Huskers will await its fate for the 2025 NCAA Tournament in the Selection Show on Sunday night. The show is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

Is Michigan State basketball in for a decline next season? One CBS Sports writer believes so... CBS Sports released an article this past week that dived into a number of teams that "will struggle to meet last season's standard" and Michigan State made the list. The Spartans are coming off a Big Ten title winning season and Elite Eight finish in the NCAA Tournament, and Isaac Trotter of CBS Sports is not expecting Michigan State to match that same kind of success during the 2025-26 season. "Richardson's departure does open the door for Michigan State to slide back to the rest of the pack in 2025-26," Trotter wrote. "College basketball can be cyclical, at times, and Michigan State has been hit with some unexpected tremors this offseason. The writing was on the wall with the dynamic Richardson down the stretch, but Tre Holloman's abrupt decision to transfer to NC State stung, too." Trotter did, however, note that Michigan State still has a high-floor and that there is still plenty to be excited about for the Spartans next year. "Make no mistake, Michigan State still has a high floor. Its blanketing 3-point defense isn't going anywhere," Trotter wrote. "(Carson) Cooper, (Jaxon) Kohler, (Coen) Carr and incoming freshman forward Cam Ward should help the Spartans keep smoking teams on the glass. (Jeremy) Fears single-handedly is a fast-break machine who should take a healthy step forward with a full, healthy offseason. Defense, rebounding and a turbo transition offense is a good recipe to be competent, and there are some real upside plays in Carr (future NBA player), Ward (who looks built in a lab to play for Izzo) and sophomore Kur Teng (baller)." So it sounds like Trotter is expecting Michigan State to make the NCAA Tournament yet again this season, but just don't expect to win the conference and be a true National Championship contender. That aligns with most (including myself) in this point of the offseason. The other teams expected to drop off from last season that were listed in the article were Saint Mary's, Maryland and Clemson. See where the Spartans landed in a recent batch of Big Ten men's basketball power rankings A popular college basketball social media account has Michigan State as a middle of the pack team in the Big Ten. College Basketball Report -- a popular social media account on X -- released "way too early" power rankings for all of the power five conferences, and they aren't high on the Spartans winning the league again next season. College Basketball Report has Michigan State ranked as the No. 7 team in the league -- which is one spot below Iowa and one spot ahead of Oregon. Check out the complete rankings in the post below: This honestly isn't a bad breakdown of the Big Ten, from my point of view. I personally would have Michigan State ahead of both Iowa and Ohio State, but I also think we are splitting hairs with any teams outside of the top three (Purdue, Michigan and UCLA) in the second tier of the league. At this point in the offseason, I'd have Michigan State essentially on the same level as Illinois, Ohio State, Iowa, Oregon, USC, Wisconsin and Indiana for that second tier of teams. Around this time last year, Michigan State was a in similar spot and they ended up exceeding expectations en route to winning the Big Ten and reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Hopefully, we see that same kind of lift from the Spartans this upcoming season too. CBS Sports predicts Alabama football will suffer its first loss of 2025 to this team
Only a few Saturdays remain before the Alabama Crimson Tide take the field for their 2025 season opener against the Florida State Seminoles at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. Expectations for Alabama in Year 2 under coach Kalen DeBoer are high. The Crimson Tide return plenty of talent on both sides of the ball, especially at wide receiver with sophomore sensation Ryan Williams following his breakout freshman season (48 catches, 865 yards) and senior Germie Bernard (50 catches, 794 yards). Alabama's secondary unit has also earned high marks and figures to be one of the best in the nation, with cornerbacks Domani Jackson and Zabien Brown and safeties Keon Sabb and Bray Hubbard all returning. Both the secondary and wide receiver rooms rank as two of the top best in the country entering 2025 by CBS Sports, Pro Football Focus (PFF) and other national outlets. As for the Crimson Tide's schedule, there aren't many gimmes. Alabama opens SEC play on Sept. 27 in Athens against the Georgia Bulldogs, part of a five-game stretch without a bye that includes trips to both Columbia's to face Missouri and South Carolina, and home games against Vanderbilt and the annual Third Saturday in October clash with Tennessee. The SEC hasn't had an undefeated team since Georgia's 15-0 national championship squad in 2022, and with the additions of Oklahoma and especially Texas last year, it seems unlikely the league will have an undefeated conference champion in 2025. To that end, CBS Sports college football analyst Brad Crawford took a look at the 2025 SEC schedules for all 16 programs with predictions for each team's first loss. Crawford believes Alabama's first loss will come at Sanford Stadium in their primetime clash with Georgia. "Kalen DeBoer's team will be battle-tested with wins over Florida State and Wisconsin in the nonconference before opening SEC play at Georgia in Week 5. That's an early big-boy game in the conference with considerable playoff implications in the quality wins department for the victor. The Crimson Tide leaped out to a huge lead during last season's classic before the Bulldogs fought back in the second half. This time around, we're not going to see as many total points in a one-possession affair." --Brad Crawford, CBS Sports Georgia no doubt has Alabama circled on its schedule. The Bulldogs' misfortunes against the Crimson Tide are well-documented. They're 1-9 in the series' last 10 meetings dating back to 2008's infamous "Blackout Game" in Athens, and their lone win over Alabama in that stretch came in the national championship game in Indianapolis in January 2022. Kickoff for Alabama vs. Georgia is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on Sept. 27. The game will be televised on ABC. Alabama will be this SEC team's first loss in 2025, CBS Sports says Conversely, the Crimson Tide will hand one SEC team its first loss in 2025, Crawford believes. That will come on Oct. 11 when Alabama visits Faurot Field to face Eli Drinkwitz's Missouri Tigers. Missouri has a light schedule in September. The Tigers face Central Arkansas from the FCS in the season opener before resuming their "Border War" rivalry with Kansas for the first time since 2011 in Week 2. The Tigers then face Louisiana (ULL) in Week 3 before their SEC opener against South Carolina on Sept. 27. "Drinkwitz needs to send the SEC office a thank you card, a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates for the schedule he has received in 2025. Missouri doesn't leave its home field until Week 8 at Auburn in mid-October. Hard to believe.
