MSU hoops lands in middle of pack in recently released Big Ten power rankings
A popular college basketball social media account has Michigan State as a middle of the pack team in the Big Ten.
College Basketball Report -- a popular social media account on X -- released "way too early" power rankings for all of the power five conferences, and they aren't high on the Spartans winning the league again next season. College Basketball Report has Michigan State ranked as the No. 7 team in the league -- which is one spot below Iowa and one spot ahead of Oregon.

This honestly isn't a bad breakdown of the Big Ten, from my point of view. I personally would have Michigan State ahead of both Iowa and Ohio State, but I also think we are splitting hairs with any teams outside of the top three (Purdue, Michigan and UCLA) in the second tier of the league. At this point in the offseason, I'd have Michigan State essentially on the same level as Illinois, Ohio State, Iowa, Oregon, USC, Wisconsin and Indiana for that second tier of teams.
Around this time last year, Michigan State was a in similar spot and they ended up exceeding expectations en route to winning the Big Ten and reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Hopefully, we see that same kind of lift from the Spartans this upcoming season too.

Former Iowa football running back accepts new coaching position
When players go through the Iowa football system, they become so much more knowledgeable of the game and can think football at a higher level than others. That's a big reason why so many Hawkeyes find their way into the NFL and usually stick around longer than some may expect. But for those who weren't able to make it to the league, that knowledge doesn't evaporate. Some players use it to be involved with the game in a different aspect: coaching. And this former Iowa football running back is the next in a great line of Hawkeyes turned into coaches. Bemidji State University football announced on X that it had hired former Hawkeye running back Ivory Kelly-Martin to be its running backs coach for the 2025 season. Bemidji State is a Division II school located in Bemidji, Minnesota. They compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Kelly-Martin played at Iowa from 2017-2021, appearing in 44 games. He had 181 carries for 804 yards and six rushing touchdowns in those 44 games. He spent a lot of time backing up Tyler Goodson and providing valuable snaps. While he wasn't a star at Iowa, Kelly-Martin was well respected by his teammates and coaching staff and was a true steward of the game. That was evident with his inclusion on the 2021 Players Council. Before accepting this position with Bemidji State, Kelly-Martin was a graduate assistant running backs coach at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. With his Master's in Business Administration all finished up, he can now start his coaching career with the Bemidji State Beavers. Iowa football QB Mark Gronowski ranked among the best in the nation

Big Ten quarterbacks also included in Steele's rankings are Penn State's Drew Allar at No. 6, UCLA's Nico Iamaleava at No. 8, Indiana's Fernando Mendoza at No. 14, and Illinois' Luke Altmyer at No. 17. Iowa State QB Rocco Becht cracked the top 10, coming in at No. 10. Damian Lillard lands GM job at alma mater Weber State after Trail Blazers reunion
Damian Lillard is going back to school. The nine-time NBA All-Star announced Saturday that he will serve as the general manager for the basketball program at Weber State, his alma mater, while recovering from a torn left Achilles this season. The 35-year-old Lillard signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Trail Blazers, his original NBA team, in July after he was waived by the Bucks following two seasons in Milwaukee.
