Person goes overboard on UK ferry with major search operation underway
A search is now under way following the incident between Dunoon and Gourock on Sunday afternoon.
An HM Coastguard helicopter was dispatched alongside an RNLI lifeboat.
CalMac said its MV Ali Cat vessel is also assisting the search.
It's understood the person fell from a Western Ferries vessel.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: 'HM Coastguard are responding to reports of a person overboard between the Hunter's Quay and Gourock area in Scotland.
'An HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter has been tasked to conduct a search, alongside coastguard rescue teams from Largs and Dunoon, in addition to RNLI lifeboats from Helensburgh and Largs.
'Nearby vessels have been called to assist. Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service are also in attendance.
'The situation is ongoing.'

Five arrests after police hit by stones and eggs in protest at house in Fife
FIVE people were arrested after a protest involving about 100 people at a house in Fife where police officers were pelted with eggs. A crowd of between 80 and 100 people gathered outside a property on Pirnie Street, Methilhill, for a protest at about 4.40pm on Sunday, according to Police Scotland. The crowd became abusive towards police, throwing eggs and stones, leading to public order officers joining uniformed police. The Courier has reported that the group was protesting over the presence of Buckhaven, Methil and Wemyss Villages Labour councillor David Graham, 43, who was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl last month. It was the second protest in the space of 48 hours following a previous demonstration on Friday night. Police Scotland warned that anyone 'taking part in disorder, or inciting or encouraging others' would be identified and potentially prosecuted. The gathering was described as a protest and disturbance, and no-one required hospital treatment. Video footage on social media showed members of the public remonstrating with officers. A 15-year-old girl and a 36-year-old woman and have been charged in connection with vandalising property. Two men, aged 22 and 47, were arrested and charged in connection with disorder while a 38-year-old man was also arrested and charged in connection with assault and disorder. The men were all released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date. Chief Superintendent Derek McEwan said: 'Violence towards officers while carrying out their duties will not be tolerated and the behaviour they faced last night was unacceptable. Police officers are also members of the community and it is fortunate someone was not seriously injured. 'We understand there are strong feelings in the local area but that is no excuse for violence or disorder. We are particularly concerned with the number of children present last night. 'Officers continue to carry out inquiries, including reviewing video footage of the event to identify those who were involved. 'There was a protest at the same property on Friday August 1 2025 and officers are also carrying out inquiries in relation to this incident. 'My message is that anyone taking part in disorder, or inciting or encouraging others to be involved, should expect to be identified and charged accordingly.'

Glasgow buses facing "severe delays" amid ongoing police incident
Buses leaving Glasgow's Buchanan Bus Station are set to face "severe delays" due to an ongoing police incident. Stagecoach West issued a statement saying all services leaving the city centre are facing delays due to an incident on Killermont Street. The travel service apologised to passengers and assured them that they are working to resolve the issue. On Saturday, Aug. 2, authorities received a report at around 8 p.m. local time that two boys, ages 8 and 10, were missing near Cato Circle in Pearl, a city of about 27,000 people just east of Jackson, the state capital. The residential area is surrounded by dense woods, the Chief of the Pearl Police Department, Nick McLendon, tells PEOPLE. Before their family reported them missing, the brothers were playing outside, in a ditch near the edge of the tree line. 'It started getting dark, and they thought they were walking home, but they were walking deeper in the woods,' says McLendon. 'Next thing they know, it's totally pitch black dark and they're in the woods lost.' Not long after, authorities had close to a hundred resources on the ground, from drones and K-9s to search and rescue teams. In nearby Jenkins Park, a command center was set up, the chief of police says. A coordinated search effort was underway by 10 p.m. Emergency responders began the search with drones in the air and the dogs searching the wooded area. While the dogs eventually lost the scent, they had helped narrow down the search area, McLendon says. 'We had a pretty good area of where they last located the scent and footprints in the creek,' he says. At around 1:15 a.m. the next morning, the brothers were found by a heat-seeking drone about 1,000 meters into the wooded area. They were found lying down, according to authorities. 'They just got lost in the woods, got turned around,' says McLendon. The boys told officials that when it got dark and they were still lost, they decided 'to sleep there and wait for the sun to come up.'
