Lewis Capaldi opens up on 'heartwarming couple of weeks'

Glasgow Times3 days ago
In a revealing interview, Lewis talks about his return to music, the fans' reaction, how performing at this year's Glastonbury Festival after a two-year break was 'the best day' of his life, and how his new chilled lifestyle helps his wellbeing.
Lewis, 28, performed a secret set at Glastonbury last month, after taking a two-year break from the spotlight.
He said: 'I'm not great at keeping secrets. I wanted it to be a surprise, but we had to start leaking it out a couple of weeks before because it would have been strange to come out to an empty field.
"By that weekend it was the worst-kept secret. It was genuinely the best day of my life. I loved every moment of it.
"Almost immediately, I was overcome with emotion and I started to well up. So I was like, 'Get it together', but then I turned around and looked at my drummer and he was in floods of tears.
"It was weird, I knew it was going to be fine this time around. I had nerves and butterflies, but it wasn't the same as 2023 when I was so stressed and I knew something bad was going to happen. It was spectacular.'

The musician announced he was taking time off shortly after performing at the festival in 2023 due to vocal issues, anxiety and his Tourette's syndrome.
Speaking about his return to the spotlight and the reaction from fan, Lewis said: 'It's been such a heartwarming couple of weeks. You don't know if anyone's going to be interested after two years away.
"People have been really kind. I was in the airport the other day and a lot of people were coming up to me and asking for pictures, then you had others going, 'Give him some space' and being protective.
'I can't overstate the importance of the last two years, getting the chance to take time off.'
After two years out of the spotlight, he recently returned with the release of his new single, 'Survive'.
Speaking about the song, Lewis said: 'I'm trying to write songs for myself these days and if other people find something in it, that's amazing for them.
"I've written a lot of songs about my mental health and how it was debilitating me at certain points in my life, but I wanted to write something about overcoming it.
"People have come up to me and been really complimentary about the song, telling me how it's helped them and how they relate to it.
'Usually if I'd just released a single, I'd be doing so much more promotion and social media, but I'm really trying to take days off where I can.
"I'm putting emphasis on not overdoing it. With 'Survive' I really wanted to let the song do the talking.
"People want to know where I've been and how things are going, but I have to take my time out and chill.'

He was speaking ahead of Apple Music launching a brand-new curated playlist series, '[[Music]] That Soothes Me', for listeners to chill, relax, and unwind to.
The new guest curated playlist series kicks off with comforting song choices by Lewis as well as American singer-songwriter Reneé Rapp and British rock band Bring Me The Horizon.
Lewis's playlist features songs by acts including The 1975, Fontaines D.C., Gracie Abrams, Lana Del Rey and The Beatles.
Lewis revealed how he's trying to implement a more 'chilled out' lifestyle: 'I use music in meditation a lot - ambient music, not what I usually listen to.
"But when I'm going to bed, I'll listen to a lot of green noise and rain noises, especially when I'm trying to get to sleep, to soothe me … Slowing down and being outside help.
"I like meditation, and I also go to therapy, which has really helped me with stress.
"I'm not someone who enjoys going for long walks or spending a ton of time outside, but I force myself to do it these days because the effect it has on my mood and my stress levels is just mind-blowing.
"I think for a long time I was either working or going to the pub, and these days, I spend a lot more time with friends in a way that isn't just going out.
"Doing wholesome things with friends is always a nice change … Get outside, go to therapy, do some meditation and hang out with people.'

He said: 'If I'm going to fall asleep, especially on a plane, I put on Eminem because I feel like it really puts me at ease.
"I listen to a lot of the older stuff like The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show - for some reason it lulls me into a delightful little sleep, or I'll put on some of my own demos, which also really knock me out!'

FREE MUSIC It's no secret that Spotify offers a free tier. You won't be able to choose specific songs and you'll endure ads – but it's free. However, there are plenty of alternatives to Spotify that you might prefer. Advertisement One potentially cheaper option is Amazon Music Prime, which comes included with your regular Amazon Prime subscription. It gets you more than 100 million songs, and it's totally ad-free. So if you're already paying for Prime, then this is a great freebie that'll save you sitting through Spotify ads (or paying for Premium). If you're an Apple fan, you have two great options available to you. The first is Apple's "new device offer", which gives you three months of Apple Music for free. Advertisement This is Apple's own Spotify rival that normally costs £10.99 a month. You get it if you've recently bought an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, or HomePod, or a pair of AirPods or Beats headphones. Set up your new device, then just launch the Apple Music app and your offer should appear right away. Claim it and away you go. Sky customers can claim delicious freebies in new giveaway scheme Apple Music can also be heavily discounted if you're a student. You can claim a one-month trial, and then pay just £5.99 a month for up to 48 months. Advertisement All you need to be eligible for the offer is to be enrolled in a degree-granting university. It means you'll save £240 over the course of four years. Not a bad saving. 14 Apple AirPods entitle you to a handy music freebie Credit: Apple FREE TV There's also no end of free telly available if you know where to look. In the Music section above, I mentioned how you could get half-price Apple Music. Advertisement Well, if you're eligible for that offer, Apple also chucks in Apple TV+ at no extra cost. Yes, really. Once you start the Apple Music Student subscription, just go to Apple TV and it'll work right away. The only catch is that you can't share it with Family Sharing. 14 Apple Music Student subscriptions also come with a special TV perk Credit: Apple You can also get Apple TV+ for free if you buy a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV or Mac. You'll be able to bag three months of membership – normally that would be £8.99 a month, totalling £26.97. Advertisement And you can even share this with up to five other family members through Family Sharing. You'll just need to claim the deal within three months of first setting up new new Apple gadget. 14 Apple TV+ is packed with top telly, including hit footie comedy/drama series Ted Lasso Credit: Apple But what else is out there? If you're an Amazon Prime member, you probably know that you get Prime Video as part of your membership. Advertisement But you can also take a cut-price membership that only gives you Prime Video, which costs just £5.99 a month instead of £8.99 for full Prime. Advertisement I tested a load of free TV apps earlier this year, and some of my favourites included Tubi, Plex, and Pluto TV. If you've got a Samsung TV, then you probably know that you can enjoy Samsung TV Plus for free. Advertisement If you've bought a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV or Mac, it comes with three free months of Apple Arcade (and up to six family members can access it). Apple Arcade is a special subscription service (normally £6.99 a month) that gets you access to more than 200 games. These are all free from ads, don't have any hidden fees or micro-transactions, and can't be found for free elsewhere. Just set up your device and then tap the Apple Arcade app within the first three months to claim your trial period. Next up, there's a nice perk for anyone with an Amazon Prime subscription. Advertisement Amazon operates a special "cloud gaming" service called Luna. It's a bit like Netflix, but for video games. 14 Amazon Luna lets you stream console-quality games over the internet – and you don't even need a console Credit: Amazon So instead of needing a console, you can just play the games over the internet. Normally this would require paying for an £8.99-a-month subscription to Amazon Luna+. But if you have a Prime subscription, you can play a rolling selection of games for free. These are console-quality games. Advertisement One of them is Fortnite, a shooter game that's one of the most popular titles in the world. AMAZON LUNA – CAN YOU PLAY? Here's what you need to know... Advertisement Amazon also hosts a cloud storage service that offers up 5GB of free storage. But if you have Amazon Prime, you can bag unlimited storage for photos. Friend of Liam Neeson's late wife Natasha weighs in on Pamela Anderson romance

Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson starred alongside each other in a new movie that's sparked major romance rumours, and friends in the industry have given their approval Naked Gun is set to hit the screens this week as fans anticipate the undeniable chemistry between lead actors Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson, but the rumours of their romance have now hit even closer to home. ‌ The Hollywood duo made an appearance at SiriusXM Studios in Manhattan on Wednesday, where late-night TV host Andy Cohen chimed in to share his thoughts on the potential pairing. It just so happens that the presenter was "dear friends" with Neeson's late wife of 15 years, Natasha Richardson. ‌ In 2009, the actress tragically lost her life in a skiing accident, leaving behind two sons that she shared with the Naked Gun star. Since then, Neeson has only ever been romantically linked to one person, Freya St. Johnston, in what appeared to be a fleeting relationship. ‌ The TV host told SiriusXM: "I, and all of the friends in this circle, are very much stanning whatever this is. As I was telling him at the premiere party, I go, "Liam, Pamela is an independent woman, just like Tash was. She loves to cook. "She has her own thing going on. She has two boys. I mean, this just works, and you know? She is a formidable human being, Pamela Anderson. She really is. Like what she's been through and how she kind of reclaimed herself and redefined herself." ‌ At 58 years old, the ex-Baywatch star has been through quite the transformation in terms of her career in recent years, and playing a part in that was her major movie role just last year. Anderson starred in Gia Coppola's The Last Showgirl, which landed her a Golden Globe nomination, years since she last appeared on screen. While talking to Cohen alongside his new co-star, Neeson quietly held hands with her and even impersonated a kiss on the Today show. The Oscar-nominated actor has been single since the ending of his two-year relationship in 2012, and it seems Cohen would agree it's time for Neeson to find love again. ‌ On NBC he gushed about their budding romance, saying: "I had never met Pamela before. We met on set. And we discovered we had a lovely budding chemistry as two actors. "It was like, "Ooh, this is nice; let's not mould this. Let's just let it breathe." And that's what we did." Adding to the rumours, Anderson opened up to Entertainment Weekly about their connection. She said: "I think I have a friend forever in Liam. We definitely have a connection that is very sincere and very loving. He's a good guy." In the comedy movie, the ex-Playboy cover girl plays the role of a nightclub singer named Beth, alongside Neeson, who stars as Lieutenant Frank Drebin Jr. The film, launching this Friday, sees Anderson's second major leading role since her career resurgence of the 2020s, and fans are more than here for it.
