STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Atin Wright had 15 points in North Texas' 61-59 victory against Oklahoma State on Tuesday night in the NIT quarterfinals.
The Cowboys lost to North Texas in the NIT quarterfinals for the second time in three years after Brandon Newman missed a game-winning 3-pointer in the final second.
Wright shot 4 of 10 from the field, including 4 for 9 from 3-point range, and went 3 for 3 from the line for the Mean Green (27-8). Jasper Floyd added 10 points while going 3 of 10 and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line while he also had five rebounds and five assists. Brenen Lorient shot 4 of 7 from the field and 2 of 6 from the free-throw line to finish with 10 points.
Newman and Bryce Thompson led the way for the Cowboys (17-18) with 17 points apiece. Arturo Dean also recorded 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Wright scored nine points in the first half for North Texas, which led 27-22 at halftime. Johnathan Massie scored seven second-half points.

'Hasn't done anything': State of Origin hero under fire over 'disappointing' scenes
League great Greg Alexander has ruled the Cowboys out of playing finals footy this season after Thursday night's disappointing defeat to the Dolphins. And he's singled out Queensland State of Origin winner Reuben Cotter for specific criticism, after the Maroons back-rower continued his underwhelming club form for North Queensland. The Cowboys were blown off the park in the 43-24 flogging by the Dolphins, who ran in seven tries to four to jump into seventh on the NRL ladder. It was another dismal defensive display from North Queensland, who have the worst record in the competition after conceding a staggering 531 points in their 18 games so far this season. That equates to an alarming average of almost 30 points against per game and heaps more pressure on coach Todd Payten. As it currently stands, North Queensland are five points adrift of the top eight with six games to go. But Alexander said on the evidence of Thursday night's heavy defeat and their woeful recent form, he gives them no chance of featuring in this year's finals series. 'Put a line through the Cowboys after last night, it's the end of them,' Alexander said on SEN radio on Friday. 'Even though their draw is favourable, and they still have a bye up their sleeves, I can't see the Cowboys rallying after that." Reuben Cotter's form for the Cowboys under fire And Alexander says the form of Cotter has been particularly concerning after his impressive performances for Queensland in this year's Origin series win. The Maroons back-rower has been nowhere near his best for the Cowboys in 2025 and is averaging just 88 run metres and less than nine hit-ups per game, from his 12 appearances in clubland this season. Cotter's form does not bode well for his hopes of selection in the Kangaroos squad for their Ashes series against England later this year. The Cowboys forward has been a mainstay in the Kangaroos squads in recent years and played in their victorious Pacific Championships campaign last year, and was part of Australia's squad for their World Cup triumph in 2023. But he's fallen well down the pecking order in terms of the NRL's best back-rowers this season. Cowboys slip further out of NRL finals contention And it's indicative of the struggles of the star-studded Cowboys, who had four players featuring on Thursday night against the Dolphins that played in last week's Origin decider. Winger Murray Taulagi - who suffered a late hamstring injury - has also been a regular for the Maroons in recent years. But they are now staring down the barrel of missing the finals for a third time under Payten, having made it to the second week of the playoffs last season. Many critics insist the Cowboys should be pushing for the top-four but Payten has been unable to get the best out of his star-studded side in 2025. And it's left his position in serious threat, with the Cowboys slipping out of finals contention after six losses in their last seven games. "Their defence is just terrible," veteran NRL reporter Andrew Webster said on SEN radio. "I know they can score points and we saw that with three tries in eight minutes (against the Dolphins) but I don't know if it's the coach, I don't know what's wrong with them but they just don't seem to be able to stop points."

Former Giants managing general partner, longtime lead Microsoft attorney Bill Neukom dies at 83
Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Former San Francisco Giants managing general partner Bill Neukom, a bow-tie loving, longtime Microsoft attorney who was at the helm when the team won its first World Series title in 2010, has died. He was 83. The team announced Neukom's death Thursday. No additional information was provided. Neukom retired from his role following the 2011 season and after the Giants captured the 2010 World Series for their first of three every-other-year titles that included championships in 2012 and 2014. The 2010 victory marked the first for the team since moving West in 1958. 'Bill will always hold a special place in our hearts and in the history of this franchise,' Giants CEO Larry Baer said in a statement. 'He was instrumental in helping this organization and its players bring the first World Series Championship to San Francisco in 2010. Bill will always be remembered for not only his leadership of this storied organization but also his colorful bow ties and the fact he'd bring a glove to the ballpark to try and catch foul balls. He was a true gentleman, a dedicated fan and a friend to so many.' An avid runner who completed more than a half-dozen marathons, Neukom first joined the ownership group in 1995 and became a general partner in 2003. When Peter Magowan retired after the 2008 season, Neukom became managing general partner. He developed a catchphrase called 'The Giants Way' of playing baseball. 'My idea is that we adhere to it at the minor-league level and all the way up," Neukom said when introduced in October 2008. "It's how you play the game, conditioning, fundamentals, a rigorous spring training regimen, everything. We want the best talent, the best teachers, the best leaders, the best trainers, and we want to have better communication on what we want and how we want it done.' After retiring, Neukom remained involved with the Giants as chairman emeritus. He grew up in nearby San Mateo rooting for the Giants and with then-San Francisco Seals owner Charlie Graham as a neighbor. Neukom also loved riding horses and stayed active despite undergoing hip replacement surgery during his Giants tenure. Serving as top counsel for Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, Neukom was the company's lead lawyer for nearly 25 years. His Microsoft stake was worth an estimated $107 million when he left in 2001. He was a partner in the Seattle office of the law firm Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis. He also was a past president of the American Bar Association, serving in 2007-08. (AP) — Ben Martin scored 16 points Thursday to take a two-point lead over David Lipsky and Nick Watney after the first round of the Barracuda Championship, the only PGA Tour event that uses the modified Stableford scoring system. Players receive eight points for a double eagle, five for eagle and two for birdie. A point is deducted for bogey and three for double bogey. Martin rebounded from bogeys on Nos. 6-7 with birdies on Nos. 8-9 to close his morning round at Tahoe Mountain Club, the tree-line layout that sits at an elevation of 6,000 feet. 'To be honest, warming up on the range this morning, it's cold. I'm getting old. It's hard to keep my body moving well," said the 37-year-old Martin, whose lone PGA Tour came in Las Vegas in 2014. "I had very few expectations, but went out, was hitting the ball in front of me, kind of hitting to where I was looking and made some early putts. Saw those go in, so confident with the putter.'
