The Uttar Pradesh government is giving a major push to digital education in urban areas by setting up thousands of smart classrooms in government schools. As part of this effort, the Urban Development Department is developing over 2,700 technology-enabled classrooms aimed at improving learning experiences and access for students, especially those from low-income families. As of now, about 1,780 of these classrooms have already been completed and are in use.advertisementThe department said this initiative is helping students from economically weaker backgrounds gain access to modern, tech-based education, leading to a steady rise in school enrolments.
'This effort has led to a noticeable improvement in student attendance and enrolment in government schools in urban areas,' said Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department. 'We are taking urban education to a new dimension. These smart classrooms are not just connecting students with technology but also preparing them for the future.'The classrooms are being developed under various schemes. Of the total, 1,183 smart classrooms are being set up under the Smart City Mission with a sanctioned budget of Rs 160.83 crore.Out of these, 1,088 classrooms are already operational.KAYAKALP INITIATIVE, ABHYUDAYA COMPOSITE SCHOOL SCHEME TO TRANSFORM THE LEARNINGAnother 190 smart classrooms have been built under the Kayakalp initiative with an investment of Rs 57.66 crore. Under the Aspirational Cities initiative, 913 classrooms have been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 29.43 crore, of which 408 are in use, while the remaining 505 are still being constructed.advertisementThe department has also approved 398 new classrooms under other schemes. These include 25 classrooms under the CM Abhyudaya Composite School Scheme and 13 under the Vaishvik Nagaroday Yojana. An additional Rs 4.25 crore has been earmarked under Kayakalp projects to further boost classroom development.Officials believe this digital transformation is helping bridge the education gap for children in urban areas who earlier lacked access to technology-enabled learning. With more classrooms becoming functional, the state hopes to continue this momentum and ensure every child has access to quality education, regardless of economic status.

Criminal cases will be registered against Mathavallis: Abdul Aziz

Nellore: WaQF Board Chairman Sheikh Abdul Aziz reaffirmed the coalition government's commitment to protecting Waqf Board properties, warning that criminal cases will be filed against board members (Mutawallis) found responsible for illegally selling Waqf properties. Speaking at a press conference in Vijayawada on Saturday, Aziz announced that an ongoing inquiry into the sale of Waqf properties will lead to strict action against guilty members. 'Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is resolute about safeguarding Waqf properties, and there will be no compromise,' he stated. Aziz highlighted that the Central government halted funding to the Waqf Board due to the previous YSRCP government's failure to submit utilisation certificates for Rs 386 crore. He noted that the issue has been raised with Chief Minister Naidu, who is addressing it with the Central government. The Chairman announced the formation of a Rent Review Committee (RRC) to manage rents from approximately 1,300 Waqf Board shops. To address issues like property sales and rent disputes, future Waqf Board meetings will be held across all districts, moving away from the earlier practice of convening only in Vijayawada. Aziz also revealed that the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) applied to establish an MSME Park at Mallayapalem village in Guntur mandal. The Waqf Board decided to lease the land long-term to APIIC instead of permanently transferring it. Additionally, Rs 1.5 crore has been allocated for the development of Barashahid Dargah in Vijayawada, with further funds designated for the development of Kasumur and AS Pet Dargahs. Waqf Board Director SK Nasir stated that rental income will support the education of underprivileged Muslim students, their marriages, and the state government's P-4 initiative.

Telangana sets sights on Rs 9k crore youth self-employment scheme: Rajiv Yuva Vikasam rollout likely soon; govt faces fund crunch, banks wary over defaulters

HYDERABAD: After disbursing ₹9,000 crore to farmers under the Rythu Bharosa scheme in nine days, the Congress govt is now preparing to launch its next major welfare initiative-Rajiv Yuva Vikasam-to support youth self-employment ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections. Chief minister A Revanth Reddy has directed deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka to begin groundwork for the scheme, which is estimated to cost Rs 9,000 crore. Raising this amount poses a challenge, especially as the state govt recently cleared Rs 180 crore in pending bills of govt employees and is preparing to pay one pending DA instalment along with June salaries by July 1-an additional burden of Rs 200 crore. Originally scheduled for launch on June 2, the rollout was postponed to allow for a larger budget-increased from Rs 6,000 crore to Rs 9,000 crore-and better preparation. One of the key hurdles is finalising eligibility guidelines. The govt has already held preliminary talks with banks for loan linkage, but officials say the process is complicated by a significant number of applicants who are loan defaulters. Bankers are reportedly hesitant to approve fresh loans in such cases. However, finance department officials remain confident that a resolution will be reached in the final round of discussions with bankers. Official sources said the aim is to provide flexible support based on individual needs, ensuring youth from all socio-economic backgrounds, especially SC, ST, BC, minority, and EBC/EWS communities, can benefit. The govt is also debating whether to restrict eligibility to one member per family. To mobilise funds for the scheme, the state is reportedly exploring options such as land sales. Meanwhile, mandal-level committees, led by mandal parishad development officers, have been formed to scrutinise applications and select beneficiaries. These committees also include representatives from various welfare departments and local bankers.

Andhra Pradesh Minister Anitha emphasises curbing crimes via invisible policing

VIJAYAWADA: Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha said that policing in the state is moving forward effectively by adopting technology, adding that the ASTraM App, Shakti App, and widespread installation of CCTV cameras are helping to crack down on crimes and regulate traffic problems across the State. The home minister asserted that they were controlling crimes through invisible policing. On Saturday, the home minister inaugurated 'Suraksha 360' - a 100% CCTV surveillance covering the entire NTR district. The project aims to bring every town, village, ward, and hamlet under surveillance for public safety. The NTR District Commissionerate, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) SV Rajasekhara Babu, set up CCTV cameras across the district, covering 321 villages, 20 mandals, 4 municipalities, and 64 divisions of VMC. Addressing the occasion, Anitha highlighted the role of CCTV cameras in controlling and chasing down crimes, pointing to a reduced crime rate after their installation. During the event, Anitha asked the public to stay away from and be aware of online fraud. CP Rajasekhara Babu said that steps have been taken to install at least four CCTV cameras in every village of the district. He appreciated the donation of Rs 30 lakhs by Vijayawada West MLA Sujana Chowdary for the same. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) requested the NTR CP to arrange CCTV cameras at schools, colleges, and markets. The Suraksha devices will help keep safe and protect all religious places.
