Mavericks Trade Proposal Sees Team Move on From Anthony Davis

After a very long year, the Dallas Mavericks are entering the NBA offseason with a ton of momentum. Despite not making the playoffs, the Mavericks did win the 2025 NBA Draft lottery.

Dallas will now have a chance to draft Duke star Cooper Flagg, giving them an expected generational talent for years to come. But with the likelihood of them drafting Flagg, the Mavericks now have a logjam in the frontcourt.
But one new trade proposal would help the Mavericks break up the frontcourt by moving on from star big man Anthony Davis. Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report put together trades for all teams and had Dallas land a strong package for the All-Star.

Hornets receive: Anthony Davis
Mavericks receive: Miles Bridges, Jusuf Nurkić, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2029 first-round pick and a 2031 first-round pick

Photo byTrading away Davis right after the team landed him for star guard Luka Doncic would certainly be an interesting decision. But the team didn't get enough value from the Doncic deal, and this could be a way to help rectify that.
This trade would likely be about getting off the large contract of Davis, mostly due to his long injury history. Dallas could net some extra draft capital as well, giving them some ammo for a larger move down the line.
Bridges could slot into the rotation as a solid wing player, offering athleticism and shooting. His contract is also team-friendly, with Bridges only making a little more than $20 million in each of the next two seasons.

Nurkić could help replace Davis in the frontcourt, while giving the Mavericks a decent expiring contract. Dallas could look to move Nurkić at the trade deadline for more future assets.
All in all, a deal like this could help Dallas in the future. But if the team wants to contend for a title next season, keeping Davis around helps in that regard.
Davis is one of the better big men in the entire NBA, and the Mavericks targeted him for Doncic for a reason. The Mavericks aren't likely to move Davis anytime soon, unless a deal that the team can't turn down falls into their lap.

MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier leaves during Lynx's 53-point blowout win over Aces
LAS VEGAS — Minnesota Lynx forward and MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier injured her right ankle and left the game during Saturday's 111-58 victory over the Las Vegas Aces. Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said it was too soon to assess the severity of her star player's injury. 'She was in the locker room with us, but as protocol, tomorrow or whatever chance we get, we'll continue to evaluate and examine images, all that good stuff,' Reeve said. Collier's teammates, coaches and trainers eventually made their way to the opposite end of the court to tend to the 2025 All-Star MVP. The seventh-year pro left the court on her own and went straight to the locker room, moving slowly and walking gingerly while favoring her right ankle with a Lynx staffer under her arm. Collier did not return. The league-leading Lynx (24-5) are off until Tuesday, when they'll finish their two-game trip in Seattle. The 53-point victory in Las Vegas was the largest road win in WNBA history. Reeve wouldn't speculate if Collier would get an MRI in Las Vegas, travel with the team to Seattle, or return home to Minnesota. 'It's just way too early,' Reeve said. 'At this point in time, I don't know exactly what's happening.'

Doncic: 'I decided pretty quick' to stay with the Lakers

But on Saturday, he agreed to a three-year contract extension, which means he will stay put for the foreseeable future. At his press conference on Saturday, Doncic said that after coming to L.A., he "decided pretty quick" that he wanted to stay with the Purple and Gold. Via Silver Screen and Roll: 'I was kind of thinking,' Dončić said, 'obviously not in the moment when I got traded but later on when I started playing, that I wanted to be here. This is an amazing organization. We have trust in each other. So, honestly, I decided pretty quick.' Lakers fans showered the 26-year-old Slovenian with nothing but love from the moment he arrived. He has now reciprocated, especially by undergoing an impressive physical transformation that has made him leaner and fitter this summer. Damian Lillard announces he's taking over as general manager of Weber State basketball
Damian Lillard is staying true to his roots this offseason. Less than two weeks after the team he spent his first 11 NBA seasons with officially welcomed him home with an introductory press conference, Lillard announced he's going to take over as the general manager of his college alma mater. The Portland Trail Blazers star broke the news Saturday in Ogden, Utah, where he hosted the Weber State Basketball Alumni Classic for the sixth time. "It's something that, my relationship with coach [Eric] Duft and this program means a lot to me, and seeing the success of the program means a lot to me," Lillard said at the event, per the Standard-Examiner. "I feel like I can do a lot to help the program be successful, to help the players even individually continue to grow their careers past college, that's something that I'm passionate about." Lillard played for Weber State from 2008-12. During his senior season, he averaged 24.5 points per game while shooting 44.6% from the field, including 40.9% from 3. in the process, he won Big Sky Player of the Year for the second time and became a third-team All-American. The Blazers selected him No. 6 overall in the 2012 NBA Draft. Lillard immediately made an impact, collecting NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 2013. He's a nine-time NBA All-Star and two-time NBA 3-Point Contest champion, and he has five top-10 MVP finishes. Lillard signed a three-year, $42 million deal with the Blazers after the Milwaukee Bucks waived him at the start of free agency. Lillard, 35, is still owed $113 million from the Bucks, whom he wasn't able to win a championship with in his two seasons in Milwaukee. Lillard ruptured his left Achilles in Game 4 of the team's first-round series against the Indiana Pacers. Lillard isn't expected to play during the 2025-26 season. He'll likely serve as a quasi-assistant coach for the Blazers while he recovers. But now he has another non-playing role. In a news release, Weber State said Lillard 'will work closely with the coaching staff and athletic department leadership to provide insight, mentorship, and guidance, using his experience at the collegiate and professional levels to elevate the program.' In 2015, Lillard finished his degree at Weber State. His No. 1 jersey was retired two years later. Four years after that, in 2021, he was inducted into the WSU Athletics Hall of Fame. 'College athletics is constantly evolving, and building a strong program requires time, trust, and commitment," Lillard said in that same news release. "I believe in what this program represents and the culture that continues to grow at Weber State. The support of our community is vital to the program's success, and I am committed to playing a greater role in that effort. He added: "This opportunity allows me to be even more involved in shaping the future of Weber State basketball.'
