Police appeal for information over suspected link in torture and murder cases
Strike Force Hallet is investigating whether a "contract crew" is behind the three cases, which are believed to have occurred within a period of six days last year.
The state's police force believes the three incidents may be linked to a Victorian crime syndicate.
The first case in this suspected timeline involves the kidnapping of a 31-year-old from Canley Vale in Sydney's south-west, which police believe occurred on July 19.
It is alleged the man was tortured by his kidnappers, with part of his ear being severed before he was released that day.
NSW Police said the kidnapping and torture was not reported to authorities, but detectives did execute a crime scene warrant on October 10 at a Canley Vale property, where the man was believed to have been held during the incident.
Police seized a box cutter for further forensic analysis.
Two days after the alleged kidnapping, police say an attempted murder took place in south-east Queensland.
During the early hours of July 21, a 23-year-old man, covered in dirt and suffering a facial gunshot wound with a bullet lodged in his brain, was taken to hospital after collapsing in a Jimboomba service station.
Police believe there was an attempt to murder and bury the man.
The 23-year-old was allegedly seen in CCTV footage of a white Hyundai Getz driving through the Mid North Coast carrying four passengers the day before the alleged incident.
Four days after this alleged attempted murder, NSW Police believe Rich "Dylan" Choup — a 32-year-old whose remains were found on August 31 last year in bushland at Lucas Heights — was kidnapped before being fatally shot and having the top of his right ear severed.
According to NSW Police, Mr Choup was captured shortly after 6pm on CCTV on July 25 meeting and being slapped by a man in Cabramatta, before they both walked towards a grey Audi SQ2.
Mr Choup was later reported to police as missing on 29 July.

Nine valuable guitars stolen from music legend Joe Camilleri's Kyneton home
Australian music legend Joe Camilleri has been left heartbroken by the theft of precious guitars from his central Victorian home. The Black Sorrows frontman said nine guitars, including two from the 1950s, were taken from his home at Kyneton on Thursday. "I was away for three days and came back and the house was open," Mr Camilleri said. "As soon as I saw my [1954 Gibson] Switchmaster missing, I realised I'd been burgled." The ARIA Hall of Fame inductee said five Gibson guitars were taken, which had been part of his life for at least 40 years and were used to write many famous songs. "I pull them out and they're my best friends," Mr Camilleri said. As well as the Switchmaster, a 1956 Gibson L5, 1960 Gibson 330, 1967 Gibson Les Paul cherry top and 1975 Fender Stratocaster were taken. The thieves also allegedly took off with the musician's cutlery, bathroom products, yellow wheelie bin and a leaf blower. It's not the first time he's had gear stolen. In 2017 a guitar, saxophone and amplifier were taken from the back of his car. They were recovered ready to be shipped overseas, a fate he believed had probably befallen his beloved guitars too. "I'd say if the people who took them are smart enough they'll be in a container on their way to Dubai now or somewhere like that," Mr Camilleri said. Victoria Police said detectives were investigating the burglary and the unknown offenders forced entry to the home around 10.30pm on July 3. The Black Sorrows used social media to ask the music fraternity to keep an eye out for the gear and alert guitar resellers. Qantas says it has been contacted by a group claiming to have stolen data of its frequent flyers
Qantas says it has been contacted by a group claiming to be behind the theft of the data of millions of its frequent flyers last week, The airline said in a statement late on Monday that 'a potential cybercriminal has made contact' but it would not disclose if a ransom was being sought. 'As this is a criminal matter, we have engaged the Australian Federal Police and won't be commenting any further on the detail of the contact,' a Qantas spokesman said. Qantas said it was working with cybersecurity experts 'to validate' the authenticity of the communication. 'There is no evidence that any personal data stolen from Qantas has been released but, with the support of specialist cybersecurity experts, we continue to actively monitor,' the airline said. The airline confirmed last Wednesday that a cyber attack occurred in one of its Filipino call centres, and customers' names, dates of birth, emails, and frequent flyer numbers were stolen. Other personal information such as credit card, passport, and financial details were not stored in those centres, Qantas has said. In an update on Friday, the Australian Federal Police said Qantas had been 'highly engaged' with the authorities investigating the breach.
