Maharashtra Govt To Launch New App To Book Cabs, Autos & E-Bikes. Will It Disrupt Ride Costs?
Maharashtra plans to launch an app-based transport service to compete with Uber, Ola, and Rapido. Possible names include Jai Maharashtra, Maha-Ride, Maha-Yatri, or Maha-Go.
Uber, Ola, Rapido and other ride-hailing businesses will soon witness a new competitor in Maharashtra as the Devendra Fadnavis government is considering to launch its own app-based transport service.
People will be able to book autorickshaws, taxis, and e-bikes in the state through this application. The new government-run app is likely to be named Jai Maharashtra, Maha-Ride, Maha-Yatri, or Maha-Go, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said.
However, the launch of the government app is yet to get approval from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.
'To develop the app, discussions are underway with the Maharashtra Institute for Transport Technology and MITRA, along with private firms. The app will include all necessary provisions to maintain transparency and will be developed soon," Sarnaik said.
Under this initiative, the minister said special financial assistance will be provided to unemployed youth to purchase vehicles at an interest rate of just 10 per cent.
'Mumbai Bank Chairman Praveen Darekar assured that this initiative will enable financial aid to reach deserving candidates. Additionally, government corporations such as Annasaheb Economic Development Corporation, Vimukta Jati Corporation, OBC Corporation, and MSDC will provide an 11 per cent interest subsidy, making the loan effectively interest-free," he said.
Sarnaik also mentioned that the app's policy framework is in the final stage, in line with the Central Government's Aggregator Guidelines. He criticised private companies for exploiting both drivers and passengers through unauthorised apps.
'With sufficient infrastructure, technology, and manpower, the government's app will benefit both passengers and drivers," he emphasised.
A final review meeting on the app is scheduled for August 5 at Mantralaya, with MLA Praveen Darekar, technical experts, and government officials expected to attend.
Earlier this month, the minister warned app-based transport businesses, saying buses, cars and bike taxis operating in the state must follow the rules and regulations. He has also given directions to officials to take strict legal action against any private transport services –whether buses, cars or bike taxis– that violate regulations.

Sena (UBT) to approach SC over allegations of corruption, election fraud
With the state government led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis openly admitting that 26.34 lakh ineligible beneficiaries have taken benefit of the Ladki Bahin Yojana, the Shiv Sena (UBT) on Wednesday said it will approach the Supreme Court to have the 2024 assembly election process cancelled while the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party said the Enforcement Directorate and the Election Commission of India should investigate the way the elections were conducted. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said,'Our Women and Child Welfare Minister has clearly stated that there are 26 lakh accounts which do not fit in the criteria of Ladki Bahin Yojana. There are men and even those who are taking advantage of other schemes. All these accounts have not been suspended. All these accounts will be verified. If these accounts are confirmed to be ineligible, then we will cancel them,' the Chief Minister said on Tuesday after the cabinet meeting. Last week, Minister for Women and Child Welfare Aditi Tatkare said,'We have temporarily suspended accounts of 26.34 lakh beneficiaries from June 2025. The eligibility of the suspended beneficiaries will be verified by officials of the respective district collectorates.' Reacting to the state government's admission of 26.34 lakh ineligible accounts, Sanjay Raut, spokesperson for the Shiv Sena (UBT) said, 'This is nothing but a big election fraud. The women voters were bribed to vote for the Mahayuti. The entire 2024 election process in Maharashtra should be cancelled. According to the Representative of People Act, 1951, this amounts to a corrupt practice. And therefore the Election Commission of India should not sit quiet when democratic norms have been violated. It should investigate how voters were bribed through Rs 1500 a month benefit. This is like offering them cash for every vote.' Raut said besides the ECI, the Enforcement Directorate is not moving into action quickly. 'When it comes to opposition leaders and allegations against them, it quickly targets them through raids. In this case, when the government itself has admitted that it paid money to voters before the elections, why is the ED not taking action. It should make those who started the scheme accused in the case,' he said. Raut said the Sena (UBT) was planning to approach the Supreme Court in this matter. 'Since there is an open admission of election fraud, we are planning to approach the Supreme Court. We are fully hopeful that the SC will take decisive action on our appeal,' he said. Atul Londhe, chief spokesperson of the Maharashtra Congress said, 'This is election fraud. Now where is the Enforcement Directorate? Why is the Election Commission of India watching as a spectator? Everything is in public domain, the government itself has brought to fore how 26.34 ineligible voters exercised their franchise. It is obvious that the government benefitted through this bribe offering. The question is, will the ED act on this election fraud or continue to shut its eyes and ears?' AAP spokesperson Mukund Kirdat said, 'Undoubtedly, Maharashtra has seen the biggest election fraud hitherto. The government indiscriminately distributed cash so that the women voters and their family members vote it back to power. The government was jittery as the Lok Sabha election results showed that voters wanted a change of rule in Maharashtra. And therefore it resorted to offering cash benefits to the voters.' Babu Nair, general secretary of Maharashtra Congress said, ''The Ladki Bahin Yojana was launched just three months before the 2024 elections. In those three months more than 2 crore women were given Rs 4500 cash benefits. It was clear during the election time that the government was indulging in corrupt practice. Yet the Election Commission of India kept quiet.' Nair said women who were earning over a lakh monthly salary, who owned cars and those who were paying income tax also benefitted under the Ladki Bahin Yojana. 'Because of the Ladki Bahin Yojana, funds availability for welfare of the poor has been affected. The Ministers themselves have admitted this situation.' In 10 years, nearly 200 two-wheeler riders had died in accidents due to the pathetic state of the road. The local cantonment board could not get the road redone as it lacked funds. The then PMC commissioner Pravin Pardeshi took the initiative, went out of his way and made the Khadki road by spending Rs 23 crore from JNNURM Funds. In the next 10 years after the road was made by the PMC, less than 10 citizens had died, effectively saving more than 100 lives. Manoj More's campaign against tree cutting on Pune-Mumbai highway in 1999 and Pune-Nashik highway in 2004 saved 2000 trees. During Covid, over 50 doctors were asked to pay Rs 30 lakh each for getting a job with PCMC. Sebi confirms Gensol fraud, finds promoters diverted funds, falsified records
Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Monday passed a confirmatory order against Gensol Engineering and its promoter-directors Anmol Singh Jaggi and Puneet Singh Jaggi upholding the April order that had prima facie found them indulging in fund diversion and falsifications of documents. In a 33-page order, the regulator noted that the company and Jaggi brothers failed to effectively rebut the findings of the April 15 interim order regarding falsification of Conduct Letters and diversion/ mis-utilisation of funds by the listed solar EPC and EV leasing firm. I also note that a detailed investigation in this matter is being carried out. Further, a forensic auditor has already been appointed to examine the books of accounts of Gensol and its related parties. The concrete findings of the investigation and the forensic auditor are yet to emerge. As has been submitted by Noticees themselves, the findings of the forensic audit will serve to corroborate the factual position and provide greater clarity on the matters under scrutiny," the order said. Sebi rejected the arguments put forward by the brothers who challenged the order saying that it was not warranted. The investigation began in June 2024 following a complaint alleging price manipulation and fund misuse. Sebi's probe revealed that Gensol submitted fake Conduct Letters to credit rating agencies ICRA and CARE Ratings , purportedly issued by lenders IREDA and PFC, to conceal debt servicing defaults. These letters were later disowned by the lenders. Live Events A major concern highlighted by Sebi was the diversion of funds from term loans amounting to Rs 977.75 crore, mostly meant for the purchase of 6,400 electric vehicles (EVs). Gensol claimed it procured 4,704 EVs, costing Rs 567.73 crore, yet transferred Rs 775 crore to Go-Auto—the alleged supplier—leaving over Rs 207 crore unaccounted. The trail of funds, according to Sebi, showed that money sent to Go-Auto was routed back to Gensol and then allegedly diverted to entities controlled by the Jaggi family. Notably, part of the funds was used to purchase luxury real estate, including an apartment in DLF's premium Camellias project, and for personal expenses such as foreign currency purchases and luxury goods. Additionally, Sebi noted that Gensol misled the public by announcing pre-orders for 30,000 EVs that were in fact non-binding MoUs, and its Pune-based EV manufacturing facility showed no active production during inspections. The regulator has confirmed restrictions placed on the company and its promoters from accessing the securities market. It has also directed a forensic audit of Gensol and related entities. Sebi's findings suggest serious breaches of the SEBI Act, 1992, PFUTP Regulations, and LODR norms, including misuse of shareholder funds and inadequate disclosures on related party transactions. The matter remains under further investigation.
