Centre to set up 4 integrated aquaparks in northeast to boost fish production

Hans India18-05-2025

Union Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh on Sunday said that to boost fish production, the Centre has sanctioned 11 Integrated Aquaparks across the country, with four of them to be set up in four northeastern states.
After virtually laying the foundation stone of Tripura's proposed Integrated Aquapark and inaugurating the fish festival, the Union Minister said that four Integrated Aquaparks would be set up in Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
'Tripura and other northeastern states have huge demands for fish, and these states have the potential to increase the production of fish,' Singh told the media.
He said the Centre and the state governments in the country have taken joint efforts to increase fish production in the country.
Later, addressing the function, the Union Minister said the Centre would do everything and would always support making Tripura self-sufficient in fish and milk production. The state's proposed Integrated Aquapark would be set up in Unakoti district headquarters, Kailashahar.
A senior official said this Integrated Aquapark is being set up with an investment worth Rs 42.4 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The Integrated Aquapark in Kailashahar would serve as a backbone for modernising infrastructure for fish production, processing and marketing in the state, benefiting a wide range of stakeholders across its value chain, he said.
An official statement said the Department of Fisheries, under the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, has been prioritising the establishment of Integrated Aquaparks as a flagship intervention under PMMSY. These aquaparks are conceptualised as integrated hubs that offer services ranging from hatcheries and feed mills to cold storage, processing, training, and marketing, all under one roof.
According to the statement, these facilities are not merely physical structures; they are catalysts for value chain development, innovation, and livelihood generation, particularly for youth and women in the region.
The parks would operate on a hub-and-spoke model, customised to address regional needs and specific thematic areas. This integrated approach ensures that all facets of the fisheries and aquaculture value chain, from production and processing to retail, are supported by providing end-to-end solutions, maximising output and fostering sustainable growth.
Tripura has emerged as a frontrunner in this effort. The state, with its high fish consumption rate of over 29 kg per capita per year, has made significant progress in the fisheries sector in recent years, the statement said.
Under the PMMSY and Blue Revolution, the state of Tripura has received projects worth Rs 319 crore during the last 10 years to support aquaculture expansion, infrastructure, technology infusion, fishers' welfare and market intervention.
In the foundation stone laying ceremony and inauguration of the fish festival, George Kurian, Union Minister of State, MoFAH&D and Tripura's Animal Resource Development Department Minister Sudhangshu Das, among others, were present. On this occasion, certificates/sanction orders were distributed to various beneficiaries in the fisheries sector that entailed the disbursement of Kisan Credit Cards (KCC) to eligible fishers and fish farmers.
Best performing Cooperatives, Fish Farmer Producer Organisations (FFPOs), and fisheries startups were also recognised for their contributions to the sector and beneficiaries supported under PMMSY received certificates, highlighting the government's continued commitment towards inclusive and sustainable development.

Demand for MSME stock exchange in UP

Lucknow: Based on its on-ground experience of interaction with UP's diaspora in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh Development Forum — a not-for-profit social organisation working to integrate UP diaspora for development of the state — has urged the Uttar Pradesh govt to establish a dedicated MSME National Stock Exchange in Uttar Pradesh. In a letter to UP MSME minister Rakesh Sachan, UPDF president Pankaj Jaiswal wrote: "While existing stock exchanges such as BSE and NSE offer an SME platform for IPOs, these often operate under the overwhelming shadow of large-cap markets much like a sapling growing under a Banyan tree. We believe that if UP being the national leader in MSMEs takes the bold step of establishing a dedicated MSME Stock Exchange, it would serve as a catalytic financial institution for MSMEs across India." He added UP's exchange could focus exclusively on the unique capital needs of small and medium enterprises. He listed out several advantages of the exchange, such as simplified and fast-track listing procedure; tailored compliance mechanisms; sector-specific investor networks. "The initiative would not only solve capital accessibility issues but also position Uttar Pradesh as the capital state for MSMEs, just as Mumbai is for capital markets," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Co-live Spaces Starting from 42L+ | Whitefield Sumadhura Learn More Undo Sachan, during his interaction with UPDF in Maharashtra on Saturday, gave a presentation on the policy support being provided to MSMEs in Uttar Pradesh and elaborated on the govt's flagship "PLEDGE Scheme". This scheme promotes the development of private industrial parks under a "build, own, and operate" model, allowing land development from 10 to 50 acres with significant incentives, including 100% exemption on stamp duty, loan assistance at just 1% interest rate, grant support of up to Rs 4 crore, 10 years exemption on electricity duty, as well as GST and income tax exemptions. Facilities such as testing labs, effluent treatment plants, and road connectivity are also supported. He also invited entrepreneurs to invest in UP and share knowledge with local industries. On this occasion, Ashok Tiwari proposed organising a National MSME Conclave in Uttar Pradesh.

Gadkari steps in as flooded RuBs trigger public outcry

Nagpur: Faced with years of neglect and bureaucratic buck-passing over the maintenance of waterlogged underbridges, Union minister for road transport and highways and Nagpur MP Nitin Gadkari directed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to immediately take over Manish Nagar and Somalwada RuBs from MahaMetro. Both structures have drawn criticism from motorists, particularly the Manish Nagar RuB, which gets flooded even with a brief drizzle. The intervention comes as citizens grow increasingly frustrated over near-daily waterlogging across key RuBs in the city. The NMC, which long refused to assume responsibility for the MahaMetro-constructed RuBs, has now relented under Gadkari's orders. "On the lines of Narendra Nagar RuB constructed by state PWD, the NMC will now maintain both Manish Nagar and Somalwada RuBs," confirmed chief engineer Manoj Talewar, adding that the takeover process has begun. The latest move puts the spotlight on the worsening condition of RuBs across Nagpur. Besides the Anand Talkies RuB — which remains dry thanks to proper elevation planning by the NMC — every other underbridge, including Cotton Market, Gaddigodam, Loha Pul, Mankapur, Mehdibagh, and Narendra Nagar, continues to experience severe waterlogging during the monsoon. In fact, many stay waterlogged even on dry days, say regular commuters. Currently, the Mankapur RuB is maintained by NHAI and Mehdibagh by the Indian Railways, while the NMC manages the sump and pump system at Narendra Nagar. Despite this multi-agency setup, none of the departments succeeded in offering a permanent solution. To complicate matters, four new RuBs are being built in central and east Nagpur under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund Scheme. Unless proper drainage planning is incorporated, experts fear they may add to the list of daily hazards. What was meant to be an infrastructure upgrade for smoother commutes has now turned into a public safety concern. With water levels often rising above knee-deep during rains, motorists face stalled vehicles, skidding, and damaged engines — sometimes with life-threatening consequences. If Gadkari's intervention results in systematic upgrades, it may finally mark the beginning of accountability and effective flood management for the city's crumbling underbridge network.

No pre-arrest bail for ex-CEO in city co-op bank scam

Mumbai: A sessions court refused to grant interim relief from arrest to former CEO of the New India Co-operative Bank Ltd, Abhimanyu Bhoan, in the bank scam case. The city's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) had registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust against Percept Ltd founder-director Harinder Pal Singh, New India Co-operative Bank former chairman Hiren Bhanu and his wife Gauri, bank's former CEO Abhimayu Bhoan, Ranjit Bhanu (deceased) and five others for allegedly causing a loss of around Rs 25 crore to the bank between 2014 and 2023. This is the second FIR registered against the Bhanus and Bhoan. In Feb, a case was filed against the Bhanus, Bhoan and seven others after RBI officials found Rs 122 crore cash missing from the cooperative bank. According to the fresh FIR, Bhanu and a few bank officials had sanctioned a loan of Rs 77 crore to Percept Group, a media and entertainment firm. Police claimed that Bhanu, who was then also the director of Hermis group of companies, received nearly Rs 6.4 crore from Percept as kickbacks, which was shown as business dealings with the Percept Group using fake invoices. The police said the fraud took place between Sept 3, 2014 and Oct 19, 2023. The FIR was registered at Dadar police station, and the probe was later taken over by EOW. Rejecting the plea for interim relief, the judge said that the allegation in the earlier FIR is to the extent of receiving Rs 1 crore by Bhoan from the Rs 127 crore allegedly siphoned by co-accused Hitesh Mehta. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 月 *만원대 '실비보험' 최적가 비교가입!
