Primary school pupils star in 'spectacular' Bugsy Malone performance
Over two performances, pupils at Carlisle's Newlaithes Junior School took their audience back to the 1920s with their version of Bugsy Malone, which featured plenty of jazz numbers and splurge guns.
The school's version of Bugsy Malone, which was adapted from Alan Parker's original script for the famous musical comedy, was packed with several 'toe-tapping' songs and was met by 'roaring applause' from all in attendance.

He said: "From the moment the curtain rose, it was clear that weeks of rehearsals had paid off.

"Fat Sam and Dandy Dan's rival gangs brought comedy and chaos in equal measure – and the splurge scenes had everyone on the edge of their seats.
(Image: Newlaithes Junior School) "The production was made possible thanks to the hard work of Year 6 staff, who guided the children not only in acting, singing, and dancing, but also in teamwork and resilience.
"Costumes, sets, and props – including water pistols and silly string – added polish and flair to the whole show."
(Image: Newlaithes Junior School) Miss Lowther is one of the school's Year Six teachers and expressed her pride at watching the pupil's hard work pay off through their top-notch performances.

"They've worked incredibly hard, and we couldn't be prouder of what they've achieved."
Parents, carers, and staff who attending the performances were also keen to pile the praise on the young performers.

Rocker Dave Edmunds Hospitalized After ‘Major' Cardiac Arrest: ‘Very Long Journey Ahead of Him If He Survives'
The 81-year-old musician's wife, Cici, shared details of the 'horrific experience' and her husband's conditionNEED TO KNOW Rocker Dave Edmunds, 81, is in the hospital after experiencing a cardiac arrest, according to his wife, Cici Cici wrote on Facebook that her husband 'died in my arms' during the incident until a nurse revived him with 'heavy CPR' He had his breakthrough with the band Love Sculpture in 1968 before releasing a string of hits in the 1970s and 1980sRock musician Dave Edmunds has been hospitalized. The rocker, 81, had a 'major' cardiac arrest in late July, according to a Facebook post written by his wife of 40 years, Cici Edmunds. Cici said that Dave 'died in my arms' during the incident until a nurse revived him with 'heavy CPR.' She added, 'I'm still in shock and I believe I have PTSD from the horrific experience.' Dave was taken to an intensive care unit, where he was intubated, Cici wrote. She explained that he 'clearly has brain damage and severe memory loss,' among other ailments. 'Dave will have a very long journey ahead of him if he survives. We both have. But knowing that there are kind hearted people such as you all makes this tremendously difficult journey a little easier,' Cici continued. 'Bless you all. Sending you all much love and light and always.' There is a risk of the Welsh musician experiencing another cardiac arrest, after which there would be 'no chance' for his survival, she said. Mayo Clinic describes a sudden cardiac arrest as "the sudden loss of all heart activity due to an irregular heart rhythm," which can cause brain damage and lead to death. Dave was born April 14, 1944, in Cardiff, Wales, and performed in various bands in his adolescence and young adulthood. He had his breakthrough with the blues rock band Love Sculpture in the 1960s. The band recorded two albums before splitting in 1970. The musician released his first solo album Rockpile in 1972. The LP contained covers of several songs from the 1950s and 1960s, including Dave Bartholomew's 'I Hear You Knocking' and Bob Dylan's 'Outlaw Blues.' His Bartholomew cover spent six weeks at No. 1 in the United Kingdom, according to Official Charts. Dave later formed the band Rockpile with Nick Lowe, Billy Bremner and Terry Williams. The band released the album Seconds of Pleasure in 1980, which included the single "Teacher, Teacher." Most recently, he musician released the 2015 instrumental album On Guitar Dave Edmunds: Rags & Classics. That year, Dave told Ultimate Classic Rock that he was not currently working on new music. "I'm just sitting back at the moment and I'm planning the next year or so," he said. RuPaul Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon has brutally mocked JK Rowling's views on transgender people. The author, 60, has been publicly criticized for her controversial statements about transgender people, including celebrating the UK Supreme Court's April ruling that trans women are not legally women under the Equality Act. However, the Harry Potter author has denied being transphobic. Many famous faces have hit back at Rowling's views, including Monsoon, who identifies as non-binary. During Thursday's episode of comedian Ziwe's podcast, he asked Monsoon if Rowling would 'make a good Roxy Hart in Chicago,' the Broadway musical. The drag performer responded: 'Who is this? Who is this Jake? Who is he? JK Rowling.' When Ziwe said Rowling 'is a she,' Monsoon then mocked the author's name. Rowling notably goes by her initials, JK, which stands for Joanne Kathleen. 'That is not a feminine name in the slightest,' they said about Rowling. 'I know that oftentimes, female authors use initials so that people assume it's a male writer.' Monsoon continued to throw shade at Rowling's views about transgender rights and issues. 'I have to presume that J.K. Rowling was unsatisfied with the way that the world saw her, and then she transitioned herself into a new personality so that the world would perceive her the way she wanted to be perceived,' they continued. The author has said she would not forgive them for criticizing her, telling them to 'save their apologies.' Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, was recently asked whether Rowling's views 'impact you at all or impact your work in the world of Harry Potter at all.' 'No, I can't say it does,' he replied. 'I'm not really that attuned to it.' In May, Rowling announced the launch of the J.K. Rowling Women's Fund.
