Kerala live-in couple buried newborn babies, bring remains to cops years later
A man walked into a police station in Kerala on Sunday carrying the remains of two babies and confessed that he and his live-in partner had buried them shortly after incident occurred in Thrissur district, where 25-year-old Bhavin arrived at the Puthukkad police station allegedly carrying the remains of his own newborn children. He confessed that he and his live-in partner, Anisha (22), had buried two male infants soon after their births. Police have taken both individuals into arrived at the station around 12:30 a.m. and handed over a packet containing what he claimed were the remains of the infants. Bhavin allegedly kept the bones as a token of their relationship and told friends they planned to perform the last rites for the a second incident, Anisha gave birth again in 2024, this time in a room in her house. According to the police statement, the child died after his mouth was forcefully covered to silence his cries and prevent neighbours from hearing. Bhavin then buried the body behind his residence in was the remains of both infants that Bhavin brought with him to the police station. A forensic surgeon examined the bones and confirmed they were those of human infants. Further investigation is to police, the circumstances surrounding both deaths are highly suspicious. ‘Aides filmed rape videos on rapist's mobile, used footage to blackmail girl'

Monojit had asked them to shoot from an angle from which the survivor's body and face were clearly visible, cops said. "The girl, in her complaint as well as her statement, said that there were multiple videos shot by the accused which they used to blackmail her during and after the crime. She also wrote in the complaint that the duo took two videos while Monojit was forcibly undressing her. We found all those videos on Mishra's cellphone, and the content matched her claim," said a senior Kolkata Police officer. Police seized the phones of Monojit and two co-accused — Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed — during their arrest. The videos were found only on Monojit's cellphone. The videos have been sent for examination at the Cyber Forensics & Digital Evidence Examiners Laboratory in Salt Lake for digital forensic analysis. Alongside the crime videos, police said they found a slew of other objectionable content on Monojit's mobile. According to acquaintances, he regularly captured intimate moments with female companions and distributed these recordings to others. His compulsion to film extended to various situations, including confrontations and violent incidents. "He and his aides would take photos of women, post them in groups, and engage in body shaming, tarnishing their reputations by discussing their physical appearances," a friend said. A first-year student told TOI that Mishra controlled all WhatsApp groups where crucial announcements were shared, with complete authority to manage membership. "It was a standard practice to share photos of our female colleagues and make unsuitable remarks. He had complete access throughout the campus. Students sought his assistance in university-related matters." Police said they also retrieved CCTV footage from the college that shows the survivor running toward the locked main gate, seemingly attempting to escape. The footage also shows two men dragging her back to the security guard's room. Police added Mishra was telling investigators that the intercourse between him and the woman was consensual and that she lodged an FIR to malign him. None of the three accused denied their presence on the campus at the time of crime, but they claimed a different version of the incident. "However, the footage contradicts their claims," said an officer. Cops said they were also checking if Mishra had access to the footage from CCTVs. On Sunday, cops also visited Pramit Mukherjee's Howrah home to check if he stored any other videos on his home computer. Cops took Mukherjee to his home amid protests by locals and stayed there for more than two hours.

Puri Stampede: Odisha Chief Minister Orders Administrative Overhaul
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday ordered a major administrative shake-up following the stampede near Shree Gundicha Temple in Puri which claimed three lives and left around 50 people injured. With several crucial Rath Yatra events approaching, the CM has reassigned experienced IAS and IPS officers to ensure tighter coordination and public safety. In a decisive move, ADG (Police Modernisation) SK Priyadarshi has been placed in overall charge of police arrangements for the Rath Yatra and related rituals in addition to his existing responsibilities, an official said. Further strengthening the top administrative structure, senior bureaucrat Saswata Mishra has been appointed as Principal Secretary to the CM, a post lying vacant since Nikunja Dhal proceeded on central deputation. Mishra will also continue as Principal Secretary, Finance Department, and Chairman, IDCO. The CM has also engaged former Puri Collector Arvind Agarwal as the overall in-charge of the Rath Yatra. The administrative action came swiftly after the stampede sparked nationwide outrage. Within hours, Puri Collector Siddharth Sekhar Swain and Puri SP Vinit Agarwal were removed from their posts. Additionally, DCP Vishnu Pati and Commandant Ajay Padhi have been suspended from service. DIG STF Pinak Mishra has been appointed as the new Puri SP. Despite his promotion to DIG rank, Mishra has been directed to function as SP during the Yatra, citing the critical nature of the role. Sources confirmed he assumed charge within hours of the transfer order. To ensure full transparency, Majhi has ordered an administrative inquiry into the incident, to be conducted by Development Commissioner Anu Garg, a senior officer known for her firm administrative approach. The inquiry will aim to determine lapses and recommend corrective measures. Some of the most significant upcoming events are Sandhya Darshan (evening darshan) on July 4, Bahuda Jatra (return car festival) on July 5, Suna Besa (golden attire of deities on chariots) on July 6 and Niladeri Bije (deities return to main temple) on July 8. These events attract lakhs of devotees, with the Suna Besa expected to draw maximum people. "The congregation may exceed 15 lakh people this year for the Suna Besa," a temple official said.
