Dubai Wins Bid to Host Global Public Transport Summit 2026

Hi Dubai20-06-2025
Dubai has been officially selected to host the Global Public Transport Summit in 2026, marking its second time as host following its debut in 2011.
The announcement came during this year's summit in Hamburg, Germany, where Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) received the official hosting flag from the International Association of Public Transport (UITP).
Led by Director-General Mattar Al Tayer, the RTA delegation showcased Dubai's advancements in sustainable and smart mobility. The summit gathered over 1,900 participants from more than 100 countries and featured 300 speakers across 80 panels, alongside a major transport exhibition.
In a significant move, RTA signed four agreements to procure 637 low-emission buses worth AED1.1 billion. Set for delivery in 2025 and 2026, the fleet includes 40 electric buses—marking the UAE's largest and first-of-its-kind order. The new buses, built to Euro 6 standards, feature smart systems, inclusive design, and enhanced safety technologies.
Suppliers include Volvo, MAN, Zhongtong Bus, and Anadolu Isuzu, with an MoU signed with China's BYD to trial a high-tech electric bus in Dubai. The initiative supports RTA's goal of a fully electric and hydrogen-powered fleet by 2050.
RTA also presented key projects such as the Aerial Taxi, Dubai Metro Blue Line, 3D-printed electric abras, and a biometric fare system, underscoring Dubai's position as a global hub for next-generation mobility.

Dubai traffic: DIFC roads are getting an upgrade as RTA awards new project

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is continuing its mission to improve traffic flow across the city, with the latest changes aimed at easing congestion in key areas. The RTA has awarded the contract for the large Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project and it's about to make the traffic in DIFC much better. The road improvements will be from the intersection with Za'abeel Palace Street to Financial Centre Street and will cost a total of Dhs633 million. There will be construction of bridges and tunnels extending 1,700 metres, and widening of the street from three to four lanes in each direction. The development will increase the road's capacity by 33%, from 6,600 to 8,800 vehicles per hour in both directions and reduce travel time by over half, from 13 minutes to 6 minutes. Anyone who has used the roads in DIFC during rush hour will welcome this project. The project will help the traffic flow in several key areas and roads such as DIFC, the Dubai World Trade Centre that hosts major global exhibitions such as GITEX, Arabian Travel Market, Arab Health, Gulfood, and the Transport Exhibition. The project will no doubt assist in the flow of traffic for these large events. There are 40 areas being improved by RTA throughout the summer as the traffic quietens down, which include 22 major streets and 9 school zones. 33 things that will help ease Dubai traffic Image: Dubai Media Office > Sign up for FREE to get exclusive updates that you are interested in

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a AED 633 million contract to develop Al Mustaqbal Street, a key corridor linking major commercial and residential hubs. The project will widen the street from three to four lanes in each direction, build bridges and tunnels totaling 1,700 metres, and boost traffic capacity by 33%, cutting travel time nearly in half. The upgrades cover the stretch from Za'abeel Palace Street to Financial Centre Street and include three tunnels and a 450-metre bridge to improve flow at critical intersections. This development supports connectivity to landmarks such as Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai International Financial Centre, Downtown Dubai, and Business Bay, benefiting an estimated half a million residents and visitors. RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer highlighted the project's integration with the ongoing Trade Centre Roundabout redevelopment and its role in enhancing access across Dubai's major road network. The plan also includes pedestrian walkways, cycling tracks, decorative lighting, and new urban spaces aimed at safer, more accessible streets and vibrant community life. The Al Mustaqbal Street project progresses alongside other major infrastructure efforts like the Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets upgrade and recent phases of the Al Khail Road development, all designed to support Dubai's growing population and urban expansion while reducing travel times and easing congestion.
