Clemson freshman announces transfer portal destination, joins Big 12 program
A former Clemson Tiger has found his new home for the 2026 college baseball season.
TP Wentworth, who appeared in 26 games for the Tigers during his freshman season in 2025 and made 12 starts, announced in a post to Instagram late Wednesday that he was transferring to Oklahoma State in the Big 12.
Wentworth started in right field for Clemson down the stretch, beginning with the Tigers' final regular season series at Pittsburgh on May 16 and through all four games of the ACC Tournament in Durham. He batted .220 with three doubles and seven RBIs in 26 games.
On the mound, Wentworth appeared in 11 games and tossed nine innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits for an 8.00 ERA while striking out eight batters and walking five.
Wentworth was one of two former Clemson players to announce new destinations for the 2026 season on Wednesday. Left-hander Ethan Darden, who spent the past three seasons with the team, announced his commitment to Texas A&M earlier in the day.

Max Muncy heads to IL with what Dodgers are calling a left knee bone bruise

The Dodgers will be without Max Muncy after the third baseman was placed on the injured list Thursday with what the team is calling a bone bruise in his left knee. Muncy was injured in the sixth inning of Wednesday's walk-off win over the Chicago White Sox when Chicago's Michael Taylor slid headfirst into third on an unsuccessful attempt to steal third base. The Dodgers now have 13 players on the injured list. Taylor's helmet hit Muncy's knee, bending it sideways and flipping the infielder to the ground. The collision was so gruesome, SportsNet LA, which was broadcasting the game, did not show replays. Muncy writhed on the ground in obvious pain before being helped to the clubhouse. Taylor also left the game with a shoulder contusion. The White Sox have listed his status as day to day. Muncy's place on the roster was taken by outfielder Esteury Ruiz, who was acquired on April 2 from the Athletics in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Carlos Duran. Ruiz appeared in 66 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, batting .292 with eight homers, 37 RBIs and 38 stolen bases. Muncy's absence will leave a big hole in the Dodgers' lineup. He led the team with a .333 average and 24 RBIs in June, when he matched Shohei Ohtani for the lead in home runs with seven. He is hitting .250/.375/.457 for the season and is third on the team with 55 RBIs. 'He's huge,' pitcher Clayton Kershaw, who was on the mound when the injury happened, said of Muncy. 'I don't really know why he stole there. It just seemed unnecessary. We're all holding our breath that Munc is going to be OK. 'He's obviously a huge part of our team, especially the last two months.' Miguel Rojas, who hasn't played since injuring his left hand on an attempted steal Sunday, started at third base Thursday. Kiké Hernández, who took Muncy's place Wednesday, is also likely to see some time at third in Muncy's absence. Hernández is hitting .204/2.70/.383 while Rojas, primarily a second baseman, is batting .250/.289/.380.

Where did Kaidon Salter rank in USA TODAY Sports Big 12 quarterback rankings?

Colorado football is entering the 2025 season without Shedeur Sanders entrenched as the starting quarterback. While that might be a scary proposition for CU fans, Deion Sanders has brought in reinforcements. Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter will battle five-star freshman Julian Lewis for the starting job, and after spring performances, the competition seems neck and neck. Salter, Conference USA MVP in 2023, seems like the likely Week 1 starter, but it is still up in the air at this point. USA TODAY Sports' Jordan Mendoza ranked Salter as the tenth-best quarterback in his offseason Big 12 quarterback power rankings. Salter had a down season in 2024 compared to his monster 2023 year, throwing for only 1,886 yards with 22 total touchdowns. If Salter can regain his MVP form that saw him put up 44 total touchdowns, he would immediately become one of the league's top signal-callers. Mendoza explained Salter's No. 10 ranking, noting his statistical decline last season as a key factor in the decision. Salter looks to be Deion Sanders' first quarterback at Colorado that isn't his son, with the Liberty transfer appearing to be ahead of freshman Julian Lewis. Salters is capable of manning a high-potent numbers dipped signifcantly in 2024, but he can turn things around with weapons at his disposal this year. Arizona State's Sam Leavitt was ranked No. 1, followed by Baylor's Sawyer Robertson, TCU's Josh Hoover and Iowa State's Rocco Becht, who round out the top 4. All four top quarterbacks were starters for their current team's last season. Other quarterbacks around Salter were Cincinnati's Brendan Sorsby (No. 9), Arizona's Noah Fifita (No. 8) and Utah's Devon Dampier (No. 11). Salter can be a top-5 quarterback in the Big 12; he has to prove he can do it with a new team and against better competition. In our Big 12 quarterback room rankings, Salter and the Buffaloes came in at No. 9. Colorado opens the season in Boulder against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Aug. 29. Wells and Grisham back in starting lineup for Yankees in series finale against Toronto

TORONTO (AP) — Austin Wells and Trent Grisham are back in the starting lineup for the New York Yankees in their series finale against Toronto on Thursday. Grisham was set to lead off and play center field, while Wells was behind the plate catching right-hander Clarke Schmidt and batting eighth. Wells and Grisham came off the bench in Wednesday's 11-9 loss . The setback was New York's third straight and the Yankees slipped into a tie for first place in the AL East with Toronto. New York is 13-18 since May 28. 'We've gone through it a little bit here the last few weeks,' Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. 'Obviously haven't played our best. We need to do better, but I'm confident we will.' Wells hadn't started since Saturday, against the Athletics. Boone said Wells needed time to recover from an invasive test for a circulatory issue in his left index finger. Grisham left Monday's game after his cleat caught the turf, leading to tightness in his left hamstring. 'He feels good about it, the training staff feels good about it,' Boone said. 'Is it 100 percent? Maybe not, but I feel good that he's good enough and sound enough to go.' Grisham is batting .248 with 15 homers and 32 RBIs in 73 games. He hit a career-high 17 homers with San Diego in 2022. 'He's been so important to us on both sides of the ball, just his center field play, his at-bat quality all year,' Boone said. 'He has hit for power, he has got on base. He has been a really good two-way player, an All-Star-caliber player for us in the first half. Big to be able to avoid (the injured list).' Boone said right-hander Luis Gil threw 35 pitches and did some fielding practice drills in a scheduled throwing session Thursday. The 2024 AL Rookie of the Year has not pitched for the Yankees this season because of a high-grade lat strain in his pitching shoulder. Also Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers claimed infielder CJ Alexander on waivers. The Yankees designated Alexander for assignment on June 30. ___ AP MLB:
