Nate Diaz still eyes Conor McGregor trilogy: 'There ain't nobody else to fight'

USA Today16-07-2025
Nate Diaz still wants to settle the score with Conor McGregor all these years later.
Diaz (21-13 MMA, 16-11 UFC) and McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) fought twice before, with Diaz scoring an upset submission at UFC 196 in March 2016, and McGregor avenging his loss with a majority decision in their rematch at UFC 202.
Both Diaz and McGregor have been inactive from the octagon. Diaz amicably parted ways with the UFC after submitting Tony Ferguson in September 2022 but is still interested in a potential return. Meanwhile, McGregor hasn't competed since breaking his leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
"If I could fight anybody right now, I would fight – with all due respect to them, if Conor McGregor came back and did some f*cking sh*t, Conor McGregor," Diaz said on the "Out Cold" podcast. "There ain't nobody else to fight really right now. I would like for him to come back and just impress everybody first. Not that he needs to, but it would be great to see him back. Everybody's hating on him. I'd like to beat up somebody on top of the world, and I think he's got the capability to do that."
The only other name Diaz sees as worthy in the UFC is lightweight champion Ilia Topuria (17-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC), and the Stockton native is also interested in some boxing stars.
"Then that little Ilia Topuria, he's doing a really good job," Diaz said. "He's a little small for me, but I think those two are probably the best fights. And then on the boxing side, obviously Canelo or Crawford. I ain't asking for nothing, but when I whoop someone's ass, I'm going to get them motherf*ckers, too, with all due respect. So, that's my plan."
Diaz last competed a year ago in July 2024, defeating Jorge Masvidal by majority decision in a boxing.

Dodgers Predicted To Cut Ties With All-Star Closer After Trade Deadline

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Los Angeles Dodgers didn't make too many notable moves at the trade deadline, but they're still one of the better teams in baseball. Going into the stretch run, the Dodgers need to get healthy and play their brand of baseball. But if they can do the former, it could leave them with a roster crunch that results in a player or two getting cut from the roster. Katrina Stebbins of Dodgers Way recently predicted the Dodgers would cut ties with veteran All-Star Alexis Diaz either in the offseason or late in the regular season after holding onto him at the trade deadline. CINCINNATI, OHIO - JULY 29: Alexis Diaz #40 of the Los Angeles Dodgers throws a pitch in the 8th innning of the 5-4 win against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on July... CINCINNATI, OHIO - JULY 29: Alexis Diaz #40 of the Los Angeles Dodgers throws a pitch in the 8th innning of the 5-4 win against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on July 29, 2025 in Cincinnati, Ohio. More"In the event of a roster crunch, Díaz probably won't survive. The Dodgers might just send him to the minors instead of trading him, but either way, he most likely doesn't start the season on the Opening Day roster," Stebbins wrote. "He's done clean work over the 3 1/3 innings he's gotten for the Dodgers so far, but he's also still contending with the 12.00 ERA he left behind in Cincinnati. "There's still time for him to prove that he can be a rare reclamation project that carries over (Anthony Banda, Evan Phillips, and so on), but he hasn't shown enough yet to survive a potential culling." Diaz was a solid buy-low pickup from the Cincinnati Reds, but the Dodgers haven't used him much at all. His numbers with the Reds and in the minor leagues make him a huge question mark, and the Dodgers have a lot of viable options set to return from injury. When Kirby Yates, Tanner Scott and others return from injury, the Dodgers will need to send somebody down to Triple-A or cut them. It seems like that's going to be Diaz unless he can string together four or five more impressive performances in a row. More MLB: Pete Alonso Projected To Sign 4-Year, $110M Deal With NL Powerhouse
