QuickCheck: Is a tiger wandering around rubber plantations near Jeli?
A 29-second video clip is currently making the rounds shows tiger pug marks that captions and comments claim were found in rubber smallholdings and orchards owned by villages in Kampung Renyuk, Jeli.
Is it true that villagers have come across such tiger tracks?
VERDICT:
TRUE
Smallholders and farmers in the vicinity of Kampung Renyuk, Jeli, have been advised to be cautious following the discovery of tiger tracks in the area on Tuesday (May 13), reported Sinar Harian.
Mukim Reka headman Abu Bakar Yazid told the Malay language daily that the tiger pug marks had been found in several rubber smallholdings and orchards in the area.
"It is some distance from habitation. My advise to the farmers and smallholders is to go to their plots in groups and not alone to avoid any untoward incidents," he told Sinar Harian.
He added that residents were nervous as most of them earned a living through farming and tapping rubber.
Meanwhile, Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) Kelantan director Mohamad Hafid Rohani told Sinar Harian that the department had yet to receive an official report on the incident.
However, he said that Kelantan Perhilitan would carry out an investigation into the sightings.

Break-in at Tun Mahathir's grandchild's residence: Police record three statements
So far, no arrests have been made. Three individuals have had their statements recorded as part of the ongoing investigation into a recent burglary at the residence of the grandchild of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Bukit Ledang. KUALA LUMPUR – Three individuals have had their statements recorded as part of the ongoing investigation into a recent burglary at the residence of the grandchild of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Bukit Ledang. Acting Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the individuals whose statements were recorded include a security guard and a domestic helper. 'The three individuals consist of both locals and foreigners. Their statements were recorded to assist in the investigation. 'So far, no arrests have been made. The investigation is still ongoing,' he said on Sunday. Previously, Sinar Harian reported that police were still investigating the case, including awaiting a forensic report related to the estimated RM1.8 million in losses recorded following the incident. Usuf said that police investigations revealed signs of forced entry at the residence and preliminary findings confirmed that the property belongs to Mirzan Mahathir, but is currently occupied by his son, who is Dr Mahathir's grandchild. The estimated RM1.8 million loss mainly involves old jewellery, believed to be personal belongings, along with other valuables. It is understood that the incident, which took place on Wednesday, was discovered by the victim's domestic helper at around 3pm, who then contacted the family after noticing the rear gate had been cut open and the victim's room had been broken into. The investigation is ongoing, including reviewing the residence's closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. More Like This

MACHANG: The Attorney General's Chambers will re-examine the case of a motoring influencer who staged his disappearance, which triggered a large-scale search-and-rescue operation in Muar, Johor. The influencer, Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin – better known as Ija – and his younger brother Tengku Abdul Aziz were sentenced to one month's jail and fined RM1,500 each on Friday. Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said although the pair had been sentenced, his office would conduct a thorough review of the charges and facts of the case. 'I cannot comment further at this point because sentencing falls under the jurisdiction of the court. 'But we will look into the matter again comprehensively. That's all I can say for now,' he told reporters while attending an event at SK Pulai Chondong here yesterday, according to Sinar Harian. On July 15, Tengku Abdul Aziz, 30, lodged a police report claiming that Tengku Nizaruddin, 38, had gone missing. The report prompted a four-day operation involving more than 70 policemen. Fire and Rescue Department personnel also carried out more than 10 high-risk dives in muddy water at a river where the car the influencer was driving was located. Police later found inconsistencies in the information provided and broke the case. The incident sparked public outrage and frustration among rescuers.
