Balikwisha hands Celtic a transfer boost amid Isak Jansson blow as Royal Antwerp star posted missing
Michel-Ange Balikwisha has offered Celtic renewed transfer hope after he missed Royal Antwerp's training session.
Talks over a move that would bring the wide man to Parkhead have been ongoing as Brendan Rodgers looks to add player he has previously targeted in January.
Antwerp are currently in Austria on a pre-season training camp and Belgian outlet GVA claim that Balikwisha was one of two players not to take part in today's session along with Milo Hormeans.
The Swede skipped his team's training session this week with Celtic thought to be leading the race to sign him.
However, it now appears Jansson is on his way to Ligue 1 after Nice blew the competition away with a surprise offer.
Now the Premiership champions seem determined not to miss out again and it's hoped an agreement over Balikwisha isn't far away.
The player is in the final year of the his contract and Antwerp are keen to cash in while they can.
Discussions have been going on for some time but reports in Belgium claim that a deal to take Balikwisha to Glasgow is expected to be concluded sooner rather than later.
With Nicolas Kuhn on the verge of completing a £17.2million switch to FC Como, Rodgers is in need to reinforcements on the flanks and landing Balikwisha would at least partly make up for losing Kuhn and seeing Jansson head elsewhere.

‘Same incompetence every time' – Scotland fans left raging at ticket shambles that forces SFA to CANCEL all sales
The SFA have released a statement on the issue TICKET FARCE 'Same incompetence every time' – Scotland fans left raging at ticket shambles that forces SFA to CANCEL all sales SCOTLAND fans have been left fuming after a ticket cock-up saw all sales for the trip to Denmark CANCELLED. The SFA started to sell briefs for the World Cup qualifier away to the Danes on September 5 this morning. 2 Steve Clarke aims to lead Scotland to the World Cup Credit: Kenny Ramsay 2 Scotland fans are not happy with ticket shambles Credit: Rex But hours later they informed all members of the Scotland Supporters Club who had managed to secure seats that their tickets were no longer valid. Hampden chiefs blamed a "technical error" that allowed fans who didn't have enough points to buy tickets in the sale that was meant to be restricted to those with between 32 and 21 points. An SFA message explaining the issue said: "The Scottish FA is aware of a technical error that occurred during this morning's ticket sale for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifying match against Denmark, which allowed purchase by some Scotland Supporters Club (SSC) members who were not eligible during the window that was reserved for those with 32-21 Points. "As a result, we will regrettably need to restart the sales process from scratch in the interest of fairness, with any purchase that was made today being cancelled and refunded. "The new sale will commence at 10am on Wednesday, 23 July. "The SFA would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to supporters." The news angered many fans, with some complaining that the new sale time could mean they now miss out on a ticket. One fan said: "How hard is it for them to do the right thing first time. "They've had a week to set it up? And only have to do it 5 times a year... It's the same incompetence every time." Another fan said sarcastically: "Ahhh great! Working tomorrow afternoon when tickets go on sale to those on 20+ points and above which means it'll be harder for me to get my ticket. Cheers." The away trip to Denmark kicks off Scotland's World Cup qualifying campaign. Three days later Steve Clarke's men are on the road again when they face Belarus - with the game to be played in Hungary. They then have a home double header against Greece and Belarus on October 9 and 12. A trip to Greece is next on November 15 before the campaign ends at Hampden Park against the Danes on November 18. Charlie Mulgrew tells Celtic the signing they should make
The winger is a free agent after leaving the English Champonship side and has previously been on the radar at Parkhead. A move to Spain could on the cards as Espanyol have been linked more recently, but Mulgrew wants to see his old club swoop for the 23-year-old. Brendan Rodgers is on the lookout for wingers after selling Nicolas Kuhn to Como for £17million. Dolan scored seven and assisted six for Rovers last season and his former teammate sees him as a perfect fit for the way the Scottish champions play. Read more: "Wingers, in the past, have played a huge part in everything Celtic are," he said on Go Radio. "Speed, assists and goals. I think Brendan Rodgers would love a winger who has goal contributions and who can score goals. I think that's an area that they can improve on. "Somebody asked there who I would sign for Celtic. I would sign Tyrhys Dolan. "He is out of contract with Blackburn, a winger. He was a young lad coming through at Blackburn. He was brilliant last year. He is out of contract, so I would go and sign him."

Barry Ferguson lost his job to Russell Martin but thinks the former Scotland defender will prove to be "a very good appointment" as Rangers head Ibrox captain Ferguson ended the season in interim charge, but the Scottish Premiership club's new owners turned to the former Southampton boss instead."If you watch the way his teams play, I think the Rangers fans will enjoy his approach to it, Ferguson told Go Radio."I spoke to him a few weeks ago and was very impressed by him and I'll get right behind him."In his time in charge, Ferguson was unable to narrow the gap to Celtic at the top of the table that led to the dismissal of Philippe Clement in February but also led his side to the Europa League was not willing to go as far as assistant Billy Dodds, who told BBC Scotland that he believed only 30% of the Rangers squad was good enough for the club."I just think the squad needed a bit of help - a bit of experience - and Russell realises that," he said."When I went in there, the guys were brilliant to work with and gave everything for me and that's all you can ask for. There's definitely a lot of good players there."Ferguson picked out the summer acquisition of midfielder Joe Rothwell from Bournemouth as significant."Joe Rothwell is an experienced campaigner, he is a very good player who has played at a good level," he said. "Some of the signings I've been impressed by and I think they'll do a very good job for Rangers."Martin makes his competitive debut as Rangers boss at home to Panathinaikos in Champions League qualifying on Tuesday."It is going to be a tough tie," Ferguson predicted. "It was probably the team in the draw you would have like to have avoided."But, listen, Rangers are at home and I am sure the fans will get right behind Russell Martin. It's all about getting a result and making sure they go to Greece next week with a victory under their belt."
