Man charged in deadly crash that killed Endicott police sergeant extradited to N.H.
The man accused in a deadly crash that killed an Endicott police sergeant was arrested and extradited to New Hampshire on Friday.
According to New Hampshire State Police, officers obtained an extraditable arrest warrant in December and charged Keoma Duarte, 40 of New Bedford with two felony counts of reckless conduct and one misdemeanor count of disobeying an officer.
Prosecutors say Keoma Duarte was so drunk the night before Thanksgiving that officers could smell the alcohol on him as they worked to free him from his crumpled Tesla on Interstate 95 near Newbury.
Duarte's Tesla had slammed head-on into a car that Endicott College Police Sgt. Jeremy Cole was driving, killing the 49-year-old husband and father of four as he drove home from work.
Duarte, 40, was arraigned on vehicular homicide and manslaughter charges from his hospital bed in December. He spoke only once, acknowledging he could hear the judge.
On June 3rd, NH troopers traveled to Bristol County Jail and House of Correction in Massachusetts and took Duarte into custody.
Duarte was then transported back to New Hampshire, where he was held at the Rockingham County Department of Corrections ahead of arraignment on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in Hampton District Court.
Jeremy Cole was a police sergeant at Endicott College. News of his death shook the close-knit community of students and staff.
The crash remains under investigation.

Man flown to Boston hospital after fiery crash on I-93 in New Hampshire
A man was flown to a Boston hospital with serious injuries after he was pulled from a burning car on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire late Thursday night, officials announced Friday. Troopers responding to a report of a car that had crashed into a tree on the southbound side of the highway in Londonderry around 11:15 p.m. found good Samaritans trying to pull a man out of a Mazda 3, which was engulfed in flames, according to New Hampshire State Police. Law enforcement took charge of the scene and successfully helped the driver to safety. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Georgios Nicolopoulos, of Windham, was taken to a local hospital before being flown to Boston for additional treatment. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. College student faces serious prison sentence for firebombing Tesla dealership
The college student accused of firebombing a Tesla dealership in Kansas City faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted on all charges. Owen McIntire, who has been released to receive gender-affirming care, allegedly hurled Molotov cocktails at a Tesla dealership, blowing up two cars and causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages in March, officials said. The 19-year-old UMass Boston student has pleaded not guilty to malicious destruction of property and unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device. He faces up to 30 years, if convicted on all counts, according to the Kansas City Star. His case was elevated to the Department of Justice's national security division, which is typically focused on terrorism and espionage, after Attorney General Pam Bondi labeled the incident a case of 'domestic terrorism.' Owen McIntire, 19, is facing up to 30 years in prison if convicted. Department of Justice 'Let me be extremely clear to anyone who still wants to firebomb a Tesla property: you will not evade us,' Bondi said in April in announcing McIntire's arrest. 'You will be arrested. You will be prosecuted. You will spend decades behind bars. It is not worth it.' Federal authorities responded sharply to dozens of reports of vandalism at Tesla dealerships across the country in an apparent protest against Tesla CEO and President Trump's pal Elon Musk, who at the time was serving as the head of the administration's cost-cutting agency DOGE. The Federal Bureau of Investigation launched a new task force for investigating such reports. He was allowed to move to his parents' Parkville, Missouri, home but must wear an ankle monitor and abide by other conditions, according to the Kansas City Star, Prosecutors wanted to keep McIntire in custody ahead of his trial. In November 2021, five days before Thanksgiving, 13-year-old Iran Moreno sat in his California bedroom playing video games Then, across the street from his Pasadena home, a passenger exited a sedan and fired two shots, the Pasadena Police Department said in a June 25 news release shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. One bullet hit Iran, fatally injuring him, police said. His death rocked the community. 'As a father, I cannot fathom the unbearable anguish that Iran's parents are going through at this moment and the pain that they will live with for the rest of their lives,' Pasadena Mayor Victor M. Gordo said in a statement days after Iran's death. 'We as a community must all come together to embrace his family, friends and neighbors.' Gordo also asked that the community come forward with any information, 'no matter how small.' 'Our community must not stand for violence and, while seeking justice for their son can never take away the hole in their hearts, we pray it will bring some sense of relief for the Moreno family,' Gordo said. Nearly four years later, Iran's family is still searching for that sense of relief, but now new details offer hope. Police have released sketches of two people possibly connected to Iran's slaying in an effort to close the case. Few answers despite investigation In the months following Iran's death on Nov. 20, 2021, investigators pushed for answers. Police announced an $85,000 reward for information in the teen's slaying in March 2022. 'Pasadena Police Department Homicide Detectives have exhausted all leads into this senseless act of violence and are hoping this reward money will motivate anyone with crucial information about this murder to come forward,' police said. A year after Iran's death, police provided an update on his case, which included a photo of a potential suspect and car, described as a 2017 to 2020 Ford Fusion. 'Sadly, our investigative leads have not led us to those responsible for this cowardice murder,' police said, adding that they again were looking to the public for information to 'help to bring those responsible to justice on behalf of young Iran Moreno.' 'There's just something absent' Iran's mother, Lourdes Moreno, told Pasadena Weekly last June that his death left a 'vacancy' in their family. 'Although we are all together, there's just something absent,' she told the newspaper. 'Although we are all united, it doesn't feel right.' She described him as being a 'positive kid,' who was 'always happy, never upset, and had a positive outlook on life,' according to the newspaper. 'He was a loving kid who loved life,' she told the outlet. 'He did not deserve this.' New details offer hope Police said they again released new details in Iran's case to the public June 16. The information included 'specific details about the shooter's clothing (a red and black The North Face hoodie) and the recently obtained, partial license plate of the Ford Fusion,' police said. 'This information proved to be crucial,' police said. Using details from the tips they received, police said investigators identified a 'specific vehicle' from the narrowing in on the car, investigators traced 'its movements before and after' the shooting, according to police. Detectives were also able to create sketches of two people seen with the Ford Fusion at the time, police said. The suspected shooter is described as being between the ages of 33 and 37, standing about 6 feet tall and weighing between 185 to 195 pounds, police said, adding that he was seen 'wearing a red and black The North Face hoodie.' The second suspect, a getaway driver, is described as being a woman between the ages of 27 to 31, who stands between 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs between 165 and 185 pounds, according to police.
