Regarding Operation Sindoor, "the world saw how India responds if someone attacks its security and sovereignty.
"Operation Sindoor proved that for enemies of India, for terrorists, there is no safe haven. When I came here from the helipad, the 3-4 km distance suddenly became a roadshow, and everyone was praising Op Sindoor."

"Operation sindoor has created a new awakening, a new self-confidence across the country. The world has to realise India's strength," the PM asserted.
Modi further said the names of emperors Raja Raja Chola, and his son Rajendra Chola-I are synonymous with India's identity and pride and announced that grand statues would be built for them in Tamil Nadu. These statues will be "modern pillars of our historic awakening," he added.
Further, Modi said several people spoke about UK's Magna Carta while commenting on democracy. However, the Chola-era '
Kudavolai system
' predated it, he said. The system followed during the Chola era was over a 1,000 years ago.

Cabinet raises PMKSY outlay to ₹6,520 cr to boost food processing

The Union Cabinet on Thursday increased the budgetary outlay for the flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) by Rs 1,920 crore to Rs 6,520 crore to boost the food processing sector. The enhanced funds, to be provided this fiscal, will be utilised for 50 multi-product food irradiation units and 100 food testing labs. The decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "The outlay of PMKSY has been increased to Rs 6,520 crore," I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told reporters after cabinet decisions. PMKSY, launched in 2017, was extended for one more year till the end of the current 2025-26 fiscal with an allocation of Rs 4,600 crore. On Thursday, the Cabinet decided to enhance the allocation by Rs 1,920 crore to implement the 2024-25 budget announcement to set up 50 multi-product food irradiation units and 100 food testing labs. Out of which, about Rs 1000 crore will be used for setting up 50 multi-product food irradiation units under the component scheme ICCVAI (Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure) and 100 labs under the component scheme FSQAI (Food Safety and Quality Assurance Infrastructure) of the PMKSY. About Rs 920 crore will be used for sanctioning projects under various component schemes of PMKSY during the 15th Finance Commission Cycle (2021-22 to 2025-26). Both ICCVAI and FSQAI are demand-driven component schemes of PMKSY. In a separate statement, the government said the Expression of Interests (EOIs) would be floated for inviting proposals from eligible entities across the country. The proposals received against the EOI would be approved after proper scrutiny as per the eligibility criteria under the extant scheme guidelines. The implementation of the proposed 50 multi-product food irradiation units is expected to create a total preservation capacity, ranging from 20 to 30 lakh tonne per annum, based on the type of food products irradiated under these units. The setting up of the proposed 100 NABL-accredited food testing laboratories under the private sector will lead to the development of advanced infrastructure for testing food samples, thereby ensuring compliance with food safety standards and the supply of safe food. "Irradiation helps in minimising post-harvest losses, preventing sprouting, ripening, microbial contamination and extending the shelf life," the minister said. Having more food testing labs reduces time for sample analysis, improves compliance with domestic and international standards and boosts exports, he added. The export of processed food products has doubled to USD 11 billion from USD 5 billion. Share of processed food in agri-exports has increased to 24 per cent from 14 per cent, he noted.

US army rescinds Biden cybersecurity director: Who is Laura Loomer and why did she question Jen Easterly's appointment?

Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll has ordered the US Military Academy at West Point to cancel its job offer to Jen Easterly, a cybersecurity expert and Army veteran who served under former President Joe Biden . Driscoll made the decision public in a social media post, stepping in as Pentagon leaders increasingly influence staffing and academic decisions at military academies. Easterly, who also worked under President George W. Bush's national security adviser Condoleezza Rice was briefly appointed to a top position in West Point's social sciences department — but the announcement was quietly removed, The New York Times reported. Why did Laura Loomer question Jen Easterly's appointment? Earlier on Tuesday, West Point's announcement of Jen Easterly's appointment drew backlash from far-right activist Laura Loomer. Loomer, who earlier this year prompted the dismissal of numerous national security officials she claimed were disloyal, mentioned defense secretary Pete Hegseth in a post, claiming Easterly worked "to silence Trump supporters under Biden." In a memorandum regarding hiring guidelines, Driscoll stated that the academy "terminates the gratuitous service agreement with Jen Easterly." McDermott Distinguished Chair in the department of social sciences at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York," he added. Additionally, Driscoll mandated West Point to undertake a "top-down review" of its recruitment procedures. The withdrawal of Easterly's appointment exemplifies the Pentagon's ongoing conflict with perceived political opponents. Earlier this month, Hegseth declined to promote a senior Army officer, Lt. Gen. Douglas A Sims II, despite his leadership of troops across five deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq, citing the officer's close association with Gen. Mark A. Milley, a former Joint Chiefs of Staff chair disliked by Trump. Who is Laura Loomer? Laura Loomer, known for her conspiracy theories, has gained growing influence over national security staffing decisions during President Donald Trump's second term. Loomer was against extending the H-1B program standing firm on the America First policy. She calls herself a "proud Islamophobe" and a "pro-while nationalist". Loomer has run for Congress twice as a Republican, losing in Florida's 21st district in 2020 to Democrat Lois Frankel and in the 2022 primary for Florida's 11th district to incumbent Daniel Webster. Despite these losses, she has remained a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, who endorsed her 2020 campaign and has praised her as a "free spirit."

Kashmir's Tourism Is On The Path Of Revival

Last Updated: The Pahalgam terror attack was a brutal reminder of the threats that still linger, but it also highlighted the evolution of Kashmir and its people By carrying out the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians, mostly tourists, dead, Pakistan made a desperate attempt to break the backbone of Kashmir's economy. It was a direct assault on the tourism industry of the Valley, which has flourished since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The attackers had sinister designs; they wanted to hit the tourism industry hard and trigger communal clashes in the country. However, they didn't succeed in their nefarious intentions, as the people of Kashmir, for the first time in three decades, staged protests against Pakistan and the terrorists sponsored by it. These spontaneous protests reflected a larger transformation underway in the region. The youth of Kashmir, who are more focused on jobs, education, and entrepreneurship, now see peace as essential for progress. The response of the people sent a clear message—not just to Pakistan, but to the world—that Kashmiris want to be part of India's growth story, not victims of its conflict history. Pakistan tried to strike at Kashmir's backbone. Instead, it ended up strengthening its spine. On the other hand, at the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 6, Indian armed forces launched 'Operation Sindoor" and within 22 minutes destroyed nine terror camps deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The skirmishes between India and Pakistan continued till May 10, as the Pak Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) reached out to his Indian counterpart and requested a ceasefire, which has been holding good since then. But India has made it clear that any act of terror against its citizens will be considered as an act of war and will get a befitting reply. After the Pahalgam terror attack, the tourism industry in Kashmir took a massive hit as hotel bookings were cancelled and the tourists who had planned to visit Kashmir changed their minds. The hotel occupancy in Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and other places fell to zero. The Dal Lake, which used to remain abuzz with tourists, presented a desolate look after the attack. The tourism industry drives Kashmir's economy as it feeds thousands of people. The government has been trying to get the tourists back. Though the footfall remains below pre-attack levels, the gradual increase in numbers is a reassuring sign. The resilience of the tourism sector, supported by the unwavering will of the local people and decisive government intervention, is slowly steering the region back on track. The tourism sector contributes significantly to Kashmir's GDP and provides employment to lakhs of people directly and indirectly. It is trying to once again stand on its own feet. From houseboat owners to souvenir sellers, many are grappling with an uncertain future once again, through no fault of their own. Understanding the gravity of the economic impact, the Jammu and Kashmir administration, in coordination with the central government, swiftly launched a campaign to revive tourism. Tourism roadshows were organised in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and other major cities. Travel operators and influencers were roped in to rebuild trust among potential visitors. In addition, security was beefed up across tourist circuits. Special security forces were deployed in Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and along the Amarnath Yatra route. Tourists were assured of safety through visible security presence and seamless coordination between civil administration and security agencies. The April 22 terror attack may have temporarily bruised Kashmir's economy, but it failed in its core objective—to break the spirit of the people and plunge the Valley back into turmoil. Instead, it marked a turning point. The public condemnation of Pakistan and the local outcry against terrorism reflect a society that no longer wants to be held hostage to an imposed narrative of fear. Kashmir is changing, and this change is irreversible. The people have made a choice—for peace, prosperity, and progress. The Indian government's policy of development, coupled with a firm security doctrine, has created an ecosystem where terror is being increasingly rejected by the very population it once tried to exploit. The Pahalgam terror attack was a brutal reminder of the threats that still linger, but it also highlighted the evolution of Kashmir and its people. Pakistan's attempt to sabotage the Valley's economic revival failed, not only because of India's military response but because of the resolute spirit of the Kashmiri people. Kashmir's tourism industry may have stumbled, but it will rise again—stronger, safer, and more resilient. The Valley will continue to blossom as a beacon of harmony and heritage.
