Notre Dame football offers multiple prospects on Wednesday including a 5-star tackle
After a great conversation with @MikeDenbrock and @NDFootball I'm blessed to receive an offer from The University of Notre Dame. ☘️ pic.twitter.com/EovGcnim7O — Brayden Fogle (@brayden_fogle23) May 21, 2025
Notre Dame football went on another one of its offer sprees on Wednesday, as they sent out multiple scholarships to stars across the country.
Once again, the Irish weren't focusing on just one class, as multiple were given the good news. They currently have 16 commits in the 2026 group, but should expect at least 8-10 more verbals before it is all said and done.
Notre Dame does not have a commitment in the 2027 cycle, but it is just a matter of time until that changes. They are hard at work on this class, and it should pay off soon.
Find out below who the Irish offered on Wednesday, as they continue their impressive recruiting success following a run to the College Football Playoff championship game.
(Note: All prospect rankings are according to the 247Sports Composite.
2026 tight end Brayden Fogle
The Ohio native was one of the targets, as the 6-foot, 3-inch and 225-pounder is one of the best prospects in the country. He's ranked as the nation's No. 162 prospect and has a very impressive offer list. Notre Dame is a bit late to his recruitment, but still has plenty of time to make up ground.
2027 safety Tory Pittman III
I am blessed to announce that I have received an offer from @NDFootball ☘️!@RingsNthingsCA @CentralEaglesFB pic.twitter.com/Bpk4KJ46Lz — Tory Pittman III (@ToryP_3) May 21, 2025
Notre Dame has a great recent recruiting success with some of the top members of the secondary, and Pittman could be the next one that lands in South Bend. The 6-foot and 185-pound star is one of the best players in his class, ranking as the No. 40 overall prospect.
2026 Tight end Preston Fryzel
Another offer to a 2026 tight end, Fryzel also resides in Ohio. It's pretty clear that the Irish have made that a focus state, especially considering head coach Marcus Freeman's connection. At 6-foot, 4-inches and 220-pound, Fryzel fits the mold of a big time prospect, even though his ranking, No. 683, doesn't reflect that.
2027 Offensive tackle Mark Matthews
My favorite offer of the day went out to Matthews, who is the No. 8 overall player in his class. At 6-foot, 6-inches and 270-pounds, he has the frame of an elite tackle who could protect any quarterbacks blindside. Notre Dame has had a good amount of success recruiting the state of Florida, and hopefully that continues with Matthews.
Overview
It's become pretty obvious that Notre Dame is looking for a tight end in the 2026 cycle, with the two new offers out on Wednesday. They currently don't have a player committed at the position, as the search continues to find a fit. The 2027 offers are all about relationships and evaluation, they like both of them enough that waiting to offer later didn't make sense. I love the aggressiveness of this staff on the trail, and the success should continue even if it's not immediate.

Kentucky football's Mark Stoops is on ropes. But don't count him out in SEC

Kentucky football is in trouble. Mark Stoops is the only one who can save it, which may seem a bit ironic because he's been the coach for the past 13 seasons and is responsible for its current state. The Wildcats are coming off a 4-8 season last year and face the same SEC schedule that made them face three College Football Playoff programs last season in Texas, Georgia and Tennessee and two more programs that were on the periphery of an at-large bid in Ole Miss and South Carolina. In all, nine programs on UK's schedule played in a bowl game last season. Advertisement Having to go through the SEC gauntlet was among myriad reasons why plenty of Stoops' coaching peers and friends warned him not to take the job back in 2012: It's a basketball school. Its recruiting base is too shallow. Winning can't be sustained there. The Cats appear headed in the wrong direction, just as the program did back in 2012 when Stoops was hired, if he can't change course soon. The same reasons why he defied the naysayers back then are the same reasons why he could turn it around this season. Stoops saw enough potential in UK back then to take a chance. And entering a season in which the odds are once again stacked against the Cats might just be the place he needs to recalibrate what works in the program. Advertisement There are a number of memes circulating on social media of 'motivated' Mark Stoops, which initially was a sarcastic reference to an interview he had with Kentucky Sports Radio in the spring but has now morphed into a bit of a movement. The success he had — recording two 10-win seasons and taking the Cats to eight straight bowl games for the first time in program history — didn't come easy but was consistent enough to where Stoops may have gotten a bit too comfortable. He had some missteps like thinking his offensive coordinator was interchangeable. The Cats had a different OC in each of the past five seasons including new Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen coaching in 2021, leaving for a year and returning in 2023 — before heading back to the NFL. Bush Hamdan's return as offensive coordinator will mark the first time since Eddie Gran held the position from 2016-2020 that UK has had the same OC in consecutive years. Advertisement Continuity matters, which is why just the optics of former associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow leaving to become the general manager at rival Louisville after being in Lexington for the entirety of Stoops' tenure was a tough blow. But if we've learned anything about Stoops in his decade-plus in Lexington, it's that the man from Youngstown, Ohio, wasn't raised to back down from a fight. He's landed a few punches of his own in recruiting after Marrow's exodus with 15 commitments including quarterback Matt Ponatoski, a two-sport star from Cincinnati. UK also flipped receiver Denairius Gray earlier this month after he originally committed to Auburn. What matters, of course, is that Stoops gets some of those wins on the field next season. Kentucky hasn't had back-to-back losing seasons since posting identical 5-7 records in Stoops' second and third years at the helm in 2014 and 2015. Advertisement He's got a greater challenge now, maybe even monumental given the schedule. Then again, it's not much different than the low expectations he faced when he first took over the program. Stoops had unprecedented success then. There's no reason to believe he can't go out and do the same thing again. Reach sports columnist C.L. British and Irish Lions add 3 Scottish players to the squad in Australia

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — Scottish players Rory Sutherland, Ewan Ashman and Darcy Graham have been drafted into the British and Irish Lions squad ahead of the three-test rugby series against Australia. The Lions are 5-0 on their Australian tour ahead of the first test against the Wallabies in Brisbane on Saturday. The extra reinforcements announced by the Lions on Monday take the squad to 44, adding cover for next week's tour game against a First Nations and Pasifika lineup in Melbourne — the only remaining game on the itinerary that isn't a full international. Prop Sutherland, who played six games including two tests for the Lions four years ago, hooker Ashman and winger Graham were all on tour with Scotland in New Zealand. Graham was due to arrive in Brisbane on Monday, with Sutherland and Graham arriving on the weekend. Head coach Andy Farrell named a 38-man squad in May but has added his son, England veteran Owen Farrell, as well as fullback Jamie Osborne, hooker Jamie George and prop Tom Clarkson to the squad to cover injuries.
