El-Sisi orders increased compensation for Ashmoun crash victims, urges road safety measures - Urban & Transport
An additional EGP 100,000 will be paid to the families of each person killed and EGP 25,000 to each of the injured, in addition to the compensation already allocated by the Ministries of Labour and Social Solidarity.
The victims, mostly young women aged between 14 and 23, had been working in agricultural fields near Sadat City. Many were their families' primary breadwinners, with some having left school to help support their households.
The collision occurred when a transport truck crossed the central median on a regional road near Ashmoun in Menoufia Governorate, crashing into a microbus carrying the victims, according to initial police reports.
The truck driver has been detained for four days pending investigation. Authorities have ordered a drug test to determine whether he was under the influence at the time of the crash.
President El-Sisi also directed the government to expedite road maintenance and repair, particularly on the Regional Ring Road, and to ensure proper signage in construction areas. He called for the immediate removal of road hazards and stricter speed monitoring to help prevent further tragedies.
Earlier on Saturday, Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy announced the disbursement of initial compensation and instructed officials to fast-track support for the victims' families and injured survivors based on medical assessments.
Meanwhile, emergency teams from the Egyptian Red Crescent in Menoufia are providing psychological support to survivors and grieving families.
