WWE NXT Review: Hits And Misses For October 8

Yahoo09-10-2024
Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly WWE NXT hits and misses series.
WWE presented the October 8th episode of NXT from The Factory in St. Louis, MO. The show featured plenty of appearances from the main roster as well as title matches.
Here's what went down on the October 8 episode of NXT.
Miss – Jey Uso on WWE NXT
Trick Williams kicked off the show by welcoming the NXT Universe to the Tricky-Two Times era. Wes Lee interrupted the promo. Jey Uso showed up and both men mocked Lee. The crowd loved every bit of chemistry between Jey and Trick.
Jey Uso's involvement outshined the confrontation between Lee and Trick. They could've put Jey in a backstage segment with Tony D'Angelo to give him a prep talk for his match against Oba Femi or something else instead of pairing him with Trick.
Hit – Women's tag team match
Kelani Jordan tagged with Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill against Fatal Influence. Bianca showed her veteran moves. Jade dominated the match with her strength. Kelani provided her dose of athleticism. The heels worked like a well-oiled machine. Kelani picked up the win for her team.
All six women put on a great performance. Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henley do not get enough credit for bringing so much to the WWE NXT women's division. Jazmyn Nyx was a solid hand. Kelani getting the pin was the right call.
Miss – Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade promo
Roxanne Perez came down to the ring first. Perez invited Cora to cut a promo. Cora said they'll change the face of the women's division. Giulia showed up and was joined by none other than Stephanie Vaquer. Both women cleared the ring before grabbing the WWE NXT Women's Championship to tease a future showdown.
Roxanne Perez still needs to work on her promos. Cora Jade's involvement didn't help either. The only saving grace for this segment was Stephanie Vaquer's appearance. Giulia and Stephanie versus Cora and Roxanne seems be the direction before we get to a potential three-way or even a four-way for the title.
Hit – And new WWE NXT North American Champion
Tony D'Angelo took on Oba Femi for the NXT North American Championship. Oba faked a punch before delivering a beating on the challenger. Stacks handed Tony a crowbar but the Don refused to cheat. Oba took out The Family much to the chagrin of Tony. The champion went through the announce table with a spine buster. The challenger picked up the win with a roll-up pin attempt.
This was an excellent match from bell to bell. Oba vs. Tony II was better than their outing at WWE NXT No Mercy 2024. Tony was booked as the underdog but managed to topple the champion. As for Oba, he will go down as arguably one of the greatest NXT North American Champion. A brilliant title run with quality defenses. Let's see how Tony's run turns out.
Miss – Fraxiom vs. A-Town Down Under
Fraxiom defended their NXT Tag Team Championship against A-Town Down Under. Both teams traded blows. Axiom and Frazer showed incredible chemistry. Theory and Waller were impeccable with their moves delivery as well. Axiom and Frazer picked up the win after Frazier pinned Waller following his finisher.
A solid tag team title defense that would've been much better if it wasn't for the fast-paced action. Frazer may be the fastest man on the entire WWE roster, but you've to slow things down sometimes. They continued to tease A-Town Down's implosion. Waller was brilliant here with his sell job. I'm looking forward to his solo run.
Hit – Randy Orton vs. Je'Von Evans on WWE NXT
Randy Orton squared off with Je'Von Evans in the main event of 10/8 NXT. Orton used his veteran experience to evade Evans' aerial offense. The Young OG finally caught The Viper with a move. Orton responded with a couple of back body drops on the announce table. Evans managed to land a flying cutter. Randy botched a mid-air RKO attempt but quickly retaliated with another RKO for the win.
Je'Von Evans has a bright future ahead of him. The match against Orton told a perfect story. Orton played his role of the veteran to its fullest extent. His in-ring psychology is top notch. He failed to grab for what might've been a top 5 RKO. Still, Orton calling for another RKO on the fly shows he's a ring general. Randy comforting Evans over the botched RKO spot was a sweet moment.
Honorable Mentions
Nikkita Lyons made her return to WWE NXT TV last night. Lyons got a huge pop when she showed up during the Lola Vice and Ava backstage segment. She'll take on Ms. Vice in her return to televised in-ring action next week.
Sexyy Red's performance was…umm… far from sexy. Thank god, Ethan Page cancelled it with his promo. Page lost the title to Trick Williams last week and wanted some king of comeuppance for CM Punk for costing him the match. Let's see if he gets one.

WWE star says she suffered breast implant-related injury in ring: 'It has moved'

Professional wrestling may have predetermined outcomes, but the risk of injury is real. But this past Monday, longtime star Nikki Bella, whose real name is Stephanie Garcia-Colace, suffered an injury that might have been previously unheard of. In an injury report, it would be labeled as a chest injury, but Bella and her twin sister, Brie Bella (Brianna Danielson), revealed what the injury really was. Nikki's breast implant wound up getting dislocated in an eight-person match on "Monday Night Raw" earlier this week. "Your implant OK? I think it's stuck in your ribs," Brie asked her sister. "I think it is. I had to go to the doctor yesterday to get my t-t looked at," Nikki replied. "I just was telling Brie, like, having conversations with my shirt off, and I'm thinking in my head, like, 'I didn't think I'd be here today, on my day off in New York City, getting my boobs looked at.'" Nikki then revealed that "It has moved." Nikki had been in and out of the ring for years due to neck injuries and a cyst in her brain, but she made a surprise return at this year's Women's Royal Rumble in February. She was previously engaged to John Cena, who proposed to the WWE Hall of Famer during WrestleMania 33 after the couple won a mixed tag team match against The Miz and his wife, Maryse. They were engaged for nearly a year before calling off their wedding less than one month before the date. Nikki was married before getting engaged to Cena, and married Artem Chigvinstev, her "Dancing With The Stars" partner, in 2022. But the dancer was arrested in 2024 on a felony domestic violence charge, and two weeks later Nikki filed for divorce.

WWE SummerSlam 2025 Match Card, Start Time And Odds For Night One

WWE SummerSlam 2025 is a two-night extravanganza for the first time in the show's storied history, and it's kicking off with a bang on Saturday. Night One's headlining attraction pits the challenger CM Punk against the World Heavyweight Champion Gunther in the first-ever televised singles match between two of Raw's biggest stars. The event will emanate from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey and is expected to have an attendance of nearly 50,000 fans. In addition to Punk vs. Gunther, Roman Reigns will wrestle for just the fourth time in 2025 while country singer Jelly Roll will compete in a celebrity tag team match alongside Randy Orton. WWE SummerSlam 2025 Start Time and Streaming Info for Saturday WWE SummerSlam 2025 Night One takes place on Saturday, Aug. 2 and will air exclusively on Peacock in the United States. The event will be available on Netflix internationally. According to WWE, SummerSlam 'will screen live in select Regal Cinemas across the U.S. on Saturday, Aug. 2 and Sunday, Aug. 3' as part of a partnership with Fandango. In addition, WWE will host a three-hour pre-show on Peacock before Saturday's event. WWE SummerSlam 2025 Match Card For Night One (Saturday) WWE SummerSlam 2025 Night One (Saturday) features six matches, including three title bouts: WWE SummerSlam 2025 Betting Odds for Night One (Saturday) WWE has established some clear favorites for Night One of SummerSlam, but there are a number of matches with not-so-obvious outcomes. Below are the SummerSlam Saturday betting odds from BetUS: The X-factor here is Seth Rollins, who may or may not be legitimately injured and poised for a return at SummerSlam to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase on either Punk or Gunther. Although Gunther only recently won back the World Heavyweight Championship and probably shouldn't be losing again, Punk has taken plenty of big losses and badly needs a marquee win, too. It's possible that Rollins pulls a Naomi and cashes in to make this match a triple threat, but the most likely option is that Punk narrowly defeats Gunther, perhaps with a creative pin, and Rollins cashes in on him immediately afterward. Roman Reigns and Jey Uso are arguably WWE's two most beloved babyfaces right now. In other words, they probably aren't losing at SummerSlam. The most logical reason why this is a tag team match instead of two separate singles matches is so that Reed, the least pushed star here, can take the pin in MetLife Stadium, probably after a spear from 'The OTC1.' Tiffany Stratton hasn't clicked quite as well as champion as one would have imagined, but the same is true of Jade Cargill in terms of her in-ring performances. On one hand, Stratton isn't as over as a fan favorite as she should be. On the other hand, neither is Cargill, and as a far as actual wrestling ability, she isn't at the level of most of WWE's top singles stars in the women's division. Cargill is, however, getting a massive push after winning Queen of the Ring, signifying that she's likely the one who will end Stratton's underwhelming reign as WWE Women's Champion. An apparent late replacement for rapper Travis Scott, country music artist Jelly Roll is clearly working very hard to ensure his pairing with Randy Orton and feud with Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul goes as well as possible. Orton is so beloved right now and performing at such a high-level that the most likely scenario is for 'The Viper' to end this match with an RKO on Paul. A win for Orton and Jelly Roll will get WWE a lot of media attention, which is precisely why this match is happening to begin with. Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair were reportedly set to quickly split in time for a singles match against one another at SummerSlam until Flair herself requested that they stick together. That's actually worked out really well so far as the unlikely duo has gelled quite nicely and Flair is arguably more over as a babyface than she's ever been. With Flair and Bliss having such great chemistry so quickly, WWE needs to strike while the iron is hot and crown them as champions in New Jersey. WWE surprisingly booked this match for SummerSlam, giving into fan demand to see Kross more prominently featured on Raw. Thus far, the two stars are tied at one win each, and in a rubber match like this, the babyface tends to win, especially when he's beloved as someone like Sami Zayn, who appears to be in line for a potential world title push in the later stages of the year. With Kross's contract status also uncertain, a win for Zayn feels like the safest bet among Saturday's matches at WWE SummerSlam.

Major Change Is Coming For One Of WWE's Biggest Stars

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. After more than a decade with the same iconic music, WWE superstar Becky Lynch is reportedly set to get a brand new entrance theme. A new report has revealed details of the new song, which could debut as soon as tonight at SummerSlam. The reigning Women's Intercontinental Champion has used her current theme, "Celtic Invasion," since her days in NXT. The song has been the soundtrack to her entire main roster journey. A New Anthem For "The Man" According to a new report from Fightful Select, a new entrance theme for Lynch could be debuting imminently. The report states that the pop-punk band The Wonder Years created the new song for her several months ago. The new theme will reportedly feature lyrics and have a "The Man Has Come Around" soundbite inserted into the intro. This would be a significant change for one of WWE's top stars. The Power Of The Entrance Theme In professional wrestling, a superstar's entrance music is a crucial part of their identity. A great theme song can define a character, energize a crowd, and become synonymous with a wrestler's biggest moments. Iconic themes like "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's glass shatter or The Undertaker's gong are as legendary as the performers themselves. The WWE logo is seen on the front of the WWE wrestling world headquarters on January 28, 2024 in Stamford, Connecticut. WWE founder Vince McMahon resigned from the WWE and its parent company TKO as executive chairman and its board of directors following allegations of sexual assault made public in a lawsuit in Connecticut. A former employee Janel Grant accused McMahon, 78, of sexual assault and sexually trafficking her. MoreBecky Lynch's "Celtic Invasion" has been the soundtrack to her transformation from the "Lass Kicker" to "The Man" and all of her historic championship victories, including the main event of WrestleMania 35. A new theme would signal the beginning of a new era for her character. More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match Bypassing Def Rebel The news that an outside band created the theme is also significant. For the last several years, WWE's in-house music team, Def Rebel, has produced the vast majority of superstar themes. The group has received widespread criticism from many fans who find their music to be generic and less memorable than the work of previous composers like Jim Johnston and CFO$. It was reported several months ago that WWE was looking to work with more mainstream artists. Lynch, a top-tier star, being able to "bypass" the in-house team to work with a popular band like The Wonder Years is a major sign that this new strategy is being put into action. Fans should listen closely tonight when Becky Lynch makes her entrance for her title defense against Lyra Valkyria at SummerSlam. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.
