GBA report to be tabled at Karnataka government cabinet meeting
Addressing the media after a meeting with officials at Vidhana Soudha on Monday regarding the GBA, Shivakumar, who is also Bengaluru Development Minister, said, 'The committee has submitted its final report on how to divide the corporation under Greater Bangalore Authority. I have instructed the committee chairman to hold discussions with opposition leaders and take them into confidence. After this, I will table the report at the cabinet meeting.'
Shivakumar said they will be implementing the GBA within the existing BBMP limits and it will be expanded in the coming days. 'We should table the committee report and hold elections as soon as possible,' he said.
Sharing details of the meeting he had with Home Minister G Parameshwara in connection with the Yettinahole project, Shivakumar said there were some issues with the dam in his taluk Koratagere in Tumakuru district.
Shivakumar explained that they are implementing the Yettinahole project in such a way that no village gets submerged, and that locals have suggested some lakes for water storage. He said the project would be taken up after taking everyone into confidence and then placing it in the cabinet for discussion.
On his New Delhi trip on Tuesday, Shivakumar said he will be meeting Union ministers, including Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil and hold discussions regarding forest land associated with the Yettinahole project in Tumakuru and Hassan.
Replying to a question on whether he will visit the Congress party high command, he said, 'It is like a temple to us. Every time we visit Delhi, we visit the temple and offer prayers.'

Raising funds for lakes illegal, BBMP warns NGOs
BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Paike (BBMP) has issued a stern warning to Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and other private organisations for allegedly engaging in fundraising for lake 'development' and other activities, stating that there is a court stay against such collections. With NGOs and associations reportedly raising funds for lake revival and development activities, the BBMP said, this is not legal. A senior engineer said that a prominent group in the Bengaluru South Parliament segment is involved in such activity and has pasted a QR code for UPI payments towards lake development. 'The private association appointed guards who even prevented BBMP maintenance team and engineers during a visit. Since the lake is a municipal property, NGOs and private organisations which indulge in fund collection will be discouraged. The NGOs and private associations will have to enter a Memorandum of Understanding with BBMP and have to declare that they will not resort to fund collection or any commercial agenda,' said a lake engineer. The engineer also said a notice was issued to an NGO seeking clarification over their action.

BBMP now custodian of 500-acre Mallappa Lake
BENGALURU: Unable to handle the continuous flow of sewage, encroachments and the unsolved issue of fencing 500 acres of Yele Mallappa Shetty (YMS) Lake in KR Puram, the minor irrigation department has decided to hand over administration of the water body, and also transfer ownership to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Confirming the development, minor irrigation department secretary BK Pavithra said, 'The lake is in urban local body limits and it will have sufficient funds to develop the lake, which is huge. Hence, the department has decided to transfer it to BBMP.' The official said the suggestion to transfer the lake in Mahadevapura zone came from MLA Rizwan Arshad, chairman of the Legislature Joint Review Committee, Greater Bengluru Governance Bill. Reacting to the reports, Arshad stated that BBMP has funds and a team to take up lake development.

Tunnel road not possible without users paying toll, says Shivakumar
Bengaluru/New Delhi: Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar Wednesday said the proposed tunnel road between Hebbal and Silk Board Junction in Bengaluru cannot be implemented without toll collection, insisting commuters would pay if it helped them save time. "Without a toll, no tunnel road will work," he said during his visit to New Delhi, and justified collecting toll by adding, "Other states have tolls in cities. Even in Bengaluru, tolls are levied on airport road, Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway, and NICE corridor." The Karnataka cabinet had, in June, approved two major tunnel corridors under the build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) model, where private players will recover their investment over 30 years through tolls. Shivakumar, who holds the Bengaluru development portfolio, said global tenders would be floated "in the next two or three days" for the project. It includes three entry/exit ramps at Mehkri Circle, Race Course, and Lalbagh. The estimated toll for the full stretch is Rs 330 for cars, with no mention of charges for other vehicles. Other proposed tolls include Rs 320 for Hebbal-Sarjapur/HSR Layout (16.3km), Rs 250 for Hebbal-Hosur Main Road (12.7km), Rs 180 for Hebbal-Seshadri Road (9km), and Rs 245 for Mehkri Circle-Silk Board (12.5km). The tolls are projected using a 5% annual hike based on the wholesale price index, capped at 40%. On Union minister HD Kumaraswamy's proposed underground infrastructure, Shivakumar said, "I welcome the suggestion (by Kumaraswamy). Let anybody take credit (for the tunnel road project). Even if some finances can be arranged, I welcome it. Eventually, we want people to save time and commute faster." On Tuesday, Shivakumar had met Jal Shakti minister CR Patil to seek Rs 11,123 crore for six irrigation projects and requested 25% funding for the Yettinahole project. He said forest clearance issues were also raised with environment minister Bhupendra Yadav. On delays in the Rs 5,300 crore for Upper Bhadra, he on Wednesday, "What to do? The Congress is the governing party in the state." On Goa's 2023 show cause notice over Kalasa-Banduri, Shivakumar said, "Who is Goa to issue notices?" and added Karnataka would support Goa's power line if Goa reciprocated on Kalasa. He also pushed for the Centre's approval for the Mekedatu DPR, saying, "The project benefits Tamil Nadu."
