Centre approves Rs 3,667 crore annual plan for road, infra development in Himachal Pradesh
The plan includes construction of bridges, road widening, installation of crash barriers and other works on national highways across various districts of the state, he said in a statement issued here.
The minister said that he recently met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and discussed important issues related to the state, appraising him that presently the state has around 1,200 kilometres of roads under the national highway network and requested to enhance central assistance for their maintenance and improvement of road and other related works.

He said that while the state had submitted an annual plan of Rs 2,600 crore for the financial year 2023'24, but received only Rs 269 crore, which was insufficient. However, for the financial year 2024'25, the state government proposed a plan worth Rs 3,667 crore, which has now been approved by the Centre in June.
Vikramaditya Singh informed that he had also raised the issue of constructing a tunnel beneath Jalori Jot in Kullu district and the Central Government has given in-principle approval and sanctioned Rs 1,452 crore for this tunnel.

The 4.2 km long Jalori Jot tunnel under the Jalori pass in Kullu district would provide all-year connectivity to Banjat and Anni areas. He said that the construction of this tunnel would not only boost tourism in the area but also benefit lakhs of residents in the region.
He said that due to repeated landslides near Brauni Nala in Shimla district on National Highway-5 (Hindustan-Tibet Road), the stretch has suffered serious damage and to address this, the Centre has approved Rs 135 crore for the construction of a bridge at this location.
Apart from this, the Central government has sanctioned Rs 1,385 crore for the four-laning of the Kala Amb Paonta Sahib on Dehradun road. It includes land acquisition and pre-construction activities.
The PWD minister expressed his gratitude to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and the Central government for approving significant funds for the state.
He said he was hoping that strong coordination between the Centre and the State would continue in the future.
Singh said that during his Delhi visit, he also met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and raised the issue of the proposed Bhubu Jot tunnel and road connecting Mandi and Kullu districts and requested that the road leading to the tunnel be declared a strategically important defence route.
He said that the state was hopeful of a positive outcome on this vital road project in the near future. Once completed, the road would reduce the distance between Pathankot and Kullu by 40 to 50 kilometres which would boost tourism and also benefit local residents as well as the Indian Army.

AHMEDABAD: Around 21 years after the death of private firm employee, Sureshchandra, his wife Varsha Shukla and their son Vikrant will receive his Provident Fund (PF), following a 15-year-long legal battle. Last week, city civil court granted a succession certificate to Varsha and Vikrant, stating the deceased employee's PF amount of over Rs 10 lakh should be handed over to them. Sureshchandra died in May 2004 without a will. In Jan 2009, Varsha received a letter from the commissioner of EPFO, informing her that Hinarani had claimed Sureshchandra's PF amount as his widow. When Varsha objected, EPFO insisted she obtain a succession certificate. In 2010, a city civil court ordered issuance of the certificate in their names. Hirarani and Vilaspati then moved Gujarat HC in 2016, claiming they were Sureshchandra's legitimate heirs. They argued that Varsha and Vikrant had suppressed details about pending litigation in UP, and wrongfully obtained the succession certificate. In 2017, HC quashed the succession certificate and directed the city civil court to decide the issue afresh after hearing both parties. Over time, Vilaspati remained the only objector to Varsha and Vikrant's claim. In 2022, the court was told Vilaspati had died and she had no heir. The court then allowed Varsha and Vikrant's application, ordering that they be paid the PF amount along with accrued interest.

Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which is struggling to manage illegal banners and flexes in the city, has pinned its hopes on the high court giving permission to establish designated zones for advertising. With illegal installations continuing to flood public spaces despite a blanket ban, penalties, and court orders prohibiting them, BBMP is hoping to impress upon the court to allow dedicated zones to enable better regulation. In the past 11 months alone, BBMP has removed more than 25,214 unauthorised banners and flexes, filed 448 FIRs, and collected Rs 4.1 lakh in fines. Yet, officials admit that enforcement has had little lasting impact. "We clear the banners today, and tomorrow they're back. It's a visibility problem — people want to be seen, even if it means breaking the law," said a BBMP official. As part of a stronger crackdown, the civic body has proposed a 2024 Advertisement Bylaw, which includes dynamic fines calculated based on banner size and location — potentially doubling standard ad rates. The bylaw also proposes the introduction of legal advertising zones, modelled on Delhi's advertisement policy approved by the Supreme Court. These zones would allow limited placements on private property or wide roads, strictly excluding footpaths, medians, and trees. The proposal remains stalled in court after the earlier 2018 bylaw was struck down as unconstitutional. The 2024 draft, filed in Jan, awaits judicial approval. After no bidders, govt drops plan to set up 2.5k EV charging stations
Bengaluru: Citing poor response from private agencies, Karnataka has scrapped an ambitious plan to set up 2,500 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. As an alternative, the govt has tasked Bescom with setting up 100 EV charging stations. Bescom will have to fund the estimated Rs 35-crore project. The decision was formalised through a govt order issued on June 16, following a detailed report from the managing director of Bescom, the project's nodal agency. N Shivashankar, Bescom MD, said the agency floated tenders six times but failed to attract bidders. "No one showed interest," he said. "Bescom will now continue to set up EV charging stations to encourage purchase of EVs in the state." A previous attempt in 2023-24 to set up 585 stations in nine districts also fell through despite work orders being issued to select bidders in Oct 2023. In 2024-25, tenders were floated again to establish 605 stations across 22 districts, but no interest was shown in 18 districts and only one bidder came forward in the other four. In his report, Shivashankar cited five key reasons for the project's failure including lack of support from govt departments in helping private firms secure land. "The departments concerned did not cooperate with private agencies that received work orders to get required land for charging stations," he states. Additionally, limited EV penetration beyond Bengaluru was identified as a major deterrent. "The use of EVs is still not up to the mark in the state except in Bengaluru city. So private individuals did not turn up to establish charging stations," Shivashankar states.
