Telangana Governor felicitates Miss World 2025 winners at Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad
A special High Tea was organised to celebrate the global achievements and humanitarian efforts of the pageant winners. The event was graced by the presence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, several cabinet ministers, the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, and other dignitaries.
In his address, the Governor extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Telangana, both within India and abroad, marking the state's resilient journey since its formation on June 2, 2014. He highlighted Telangana's transformation into a symbol of inclusive development, cultural revival, and progressive governance.
Emphasising the harmony between global elegance and grassroots wisdom, the Governor unveiled a new eco-initiative under the aegis of Raj Bhavan Telangana. The programme promotes the production of biodegradable leaf plates by tribal communities, particularly empowering women and youth through sustainable livelihood opportunities.
'This is not merely a programme,' said the Governor, 'but a movement—for sustainability, for dignity, and for our planet.' In a symbolic gesture underscoring the message of environmental stewardship, all food served at the event was presented on traditional leaf plates handmade by tribal artisans from remote villages of Telangana.
With active support from Raj Bhavan, tribal women and youth are being trained in the production of eco-friendly leaf plates and cups—turning indigenous traditions into viable income-generating enterprises. This thoughtful initiative exemplifies the Governor's deep commitment to environmental responsibility and tribal welfare.
The Governor also paid glowing tributes to the Miss World 2025 titleholders for their inspiring personal stories and achievements. Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, who became the first Thai woman to win the Miss World crown after bravely overcoming cancer surgery at the age of 16, was especially honoured for her extraordinary resilience.
Hasset Dereje Admassu of Ethiopia, the First Runner-Up, was lauded for her poise and strength in the face of personal adversity. Maja Kladja of Poland and Aurélie Joachim of Martinique, who earned Second and Third Runner-Up titles respectively, were praised for their empowering representation of diversity and inclusion.
Other outstanding participants—including Jéssica Scandiuzzi Pedroso, Krishnah Marie Gravidez, and Jasmine Odette Stringer—were also recognised for their meaningful contributions and inspiring presence.
Commending the Government of Telangana for its exemplary hosting of the Miss World 2025 pageant, the Governor noted the memorable experiences curated for international guests, including visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites, ancient temples, pristine landscapes, and iconic cultural landmarks—each showcasing Telangana's timeless heritage and dynamic cultural fabric.
The evening was a celebration of global acclaim and local pride, symbolising Telangana's growing stature as a centre for sustainable innovation, cultural brilliance, and international harmony, a Raj Bhavan communique said.

4 dead, 38 missing after passenger ship sinks in Indonesia's Bali Strait
Jakarta, July 3 (UNI) Four people have been confirmed dead, 38 are missing, and 23 others survived after a passenger ship sunk in the Bali Strait of Indonesia on Thursday, a senior official from the East Java Search and Rescue Office, Tholeb Vatelehan, said. The wooden vessel, KM Tunu Pratama Jaya, was traveling from Ketapang seaport in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, to Gilimanuk seaport in Jembrana Regency on Bali Island when it went down, according to the officials. "As many as 23 people survived the incident, four were dead, and 38 others remained missing," Vatelehan told Xinhua via phone. Search and rescue operations have since been launched from both Bali Island and East Java, as the incident occurred near the maritime boundary between the two regions. I Nyoman Sidakarya, head of the Bali Search and Rescue Office, confirmed the joint efforts. The Banyuwangi Search and Rescue Office deployed more than 20 personnel, along with a rigid inflatable boat and one additional vessel to assist in the operation, Vatelehan said. Collector stresses on micro-level flood preparedness measures in Eluru district
With flood threats mounting over the Godavari region, Eluru Collector K. Vetri Selvi directed all the departments to adopt micro-level planning and execute a robust disaster management action plan to tackle both riverine and flash floods. At a review meeting on Tuesday, the Collector emphasised early preparedness under the Flood Contingency Plan, calling for the formation of disaster response committees at the village, mandal, and division levels. Officials were instructed to maintain updated emergency contact lists and keep resources ready from key departments such as Revenue, Police, Irrigation, Electricity, and Fire Services. To ensure real-time responsiveness, a 24x7 control room will be set up and mandal-level WhatsApp groups formed for emergency alerts. Inter-district coordination teams involving ASR, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, and Krishna districts will also be activated. In flood-prone areas like Kukkunoor and Velerupadu, phased evacuation plans have been ordered based on flood alert levels. Relief centres will be jointly inspected by RWS, DPO, electricity, and MPDO officials to ensure essential services such as food stocks, temporary toilets, and medical kits are available. Health teams have been directed to prepare for outbreaks of dengue, diarrhoea, and viral fevers, with medicines and mobile ambulances on standby. Rescue infrastructure that consists of JCBs, boats, and fire safety equipment will be pre-positioned, and the RTC has been asked to ready buses for evacuation. Veterinary officials were told to stock fodder and launch awareness drives on livestock safety. Repairs to damaged buildings, deployment of drones for aerial surveillance, and intensified sanitation measures have also been planned. Joint Collector P. Dhatri Reddy said generators and essential goods for three months are in place, and rehabilitation centres are being identified for displaced families. The Joint Collector added that generators have been prepared for power backup and that stockpiles of essential commodities have been secured for the next three months. She emphasised the need to identify and equip rehabilitation centres with proper infrastructure. The meeting saw participation from district officials across departments.
