At least 27 of the victims were young campers and counselors at Camp Mystic, a century-old sanctuary that has drawn the state's elite for generations. Leitha wouldn't say whether the county's on-call emergency coordinator was awake at the time.

1 killed in crash near Eganville

One person was fatally injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 41 south of Eganville on Tuesday, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Several vehicles were involved and multiple people were injured in the crash south of Spring Creek Road, according to a social media post by OPP around 12:30 p.m. Around 4 p.m., OPP announced one of the injured people had died. Highway 41 is closed between Grattan and Foymount roads, according to the ministry. The crash happened about four kilometres south of the village of Eganville, 35 kilometres south of Pembroke and 110 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa.

MEXICO CITY — A Mexican court on Tuesday sentenced 10 men to 141-year prison terms each for their involvement in a ranch in the western Mexican state of Jalisco that was used by a feared cartel to recruit members, kill and disappear victims. The discovery earlier this year of the Izaguirre ranch , used by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel for recruitment and training since 2021, had sparked alarm and fear across the region.
