UNC insiders say Bill Belichick is ‘second fiddle' again as Jordon Hudson steals preseason thunder
Bill Belichick, the NFL's most iconic coaching figure not named Vince Lombardi, is making headlines — but not just for football. As the former Patriots mastermind gears up for his college coaching debut at the University of North Carolina, attention is increasingly shifting from the field to his personal life, particularly his relationship with 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson.
Jordon Hudson overshadows Bill Belichick's College debut as UNC drama heats up
College football analyst Paul Finebaum captured the sentiment during his appearance on ESPN's First Take. 'He's only the most-famous NFL coach of all time this side of Vince Lombardi, but lately he's played second fiddle to his girlfriend. I can't believe I'm actually saying that, but I am.'
And he's not the only one noticing. The buzz surrounding Hudson has snowballed ever since she publicly stepped into the spotlight.
Her refusal to entertain questions during Belichick's CBS Sunday Morning interview in April became a headline itself, triggering awkward exchanges between the network and Belichick.
From speculation about being barred from UNC facilities — which the university has denied — to a bizarre allegation about hijacking a Dunkin' Donuts Super Bowl commercial, and even reported friction with Belichick's ex, Linda Holliday, Hudson's presence has kept the media swirling.

The narrative seems to stand in direct contrast to the buttoned-up discipline Belichick once demanded from his Patriots roster, where minimizing distractions was gospel.
Despite the noise, Belichick insists there's a clear separation between personal matters and football responsibilities. 'Jordon and I have both a personal & professional relationship,' he clarified in an email, as revealed by WRAL. 'Jordon assists me with my personal media, which is why I asked UNC to forward media requests… to her.
Jordon has zero involvement in the UNC football program, beyond the degree that my personal media intersects with it.
'
Still, the spotlight doesn't fade easily — especially when the relationship overshadows Belichick's new role at UNC. His first test arrives September 1, when the Tar Heels host TCU in what promises to be a high-stakes season opener. But how Belichick manages the transition from NFL legend to ACC underdog remains the biggest unknown.
As Finebaum put it, 'How does he do on the field? Mack Brown did not leave a great cupboard in Chapel Hill and I think Belichick has recruited well. Can he navigate the nuances of college football, that is really the question?'
ESPN's Kevin Clark echoed that skepticism, drawing parallels to Belichick's early NFL days. 'I think that UNC roster is not very good going into this season… It might be one of the least successful teams Bill Belichick has had in a long time, maybe since Cleveland.'
With UNC looking to break a title drought that dates back to 1980 and Belichick managing both a rebuilding roster and relentless public intrigue, his debut season promises no shortage of drama — on and off the field.

ESPN sparks outrage after ranking Jared Goff above Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts in new QB list
ESPN sparks outrage after ranking Jared Goff above Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts in new QB list NFL fans were left confused and upset after ESPN released its 2025 quarterback rankings today. Many people were surprised when Jared Goff was ranked higher than Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts. Jalen Hurts was ranked only under Jared Goff on the list even if he guided the Philadelphia Eagles to a championship victory earlier this year. NFL coaches, scouts, and executives compiled the rankings, the results of which are generating significant controversy on the internet. People are now asking if winning a Super Bowl and being the MVP is still enough to earn proper respect in the league. Jared Goff ranked above Jalen Hurts in ESPN's latest QB list In the most recent ESPN quarterback ratings, Jalen Hurts was ranked at No. 9 while Jared Goff came in at No. 8. Based on votes from NFL insiders including front-office members, coaches, and scouts, this list was published on July 14. Many fans and football analysts have found the decision unacceptable. With over 4,600 passing yards and the Pro Bowl MVP trophy, Jared Goff had a fantastic 2024 season for the Detroit Lions. His remarkable numbers helped him rise up the ratings. Still, Jalen Hurts also had a great year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Appointed Super Bowl MVP, he led the Eagles to February Super Bowl victory. He ran for 221 yards and three total touchdowns in the game. Jalen Hurts still failed to crack the top 5 or even top 8, thus posing issues regarding what matters more in these ratings: statistics or major achievements. One fan wrote, 'He wins MVP, takes us to the Super Bowl, and still gets disrespected.' Some even called ESPN's list 'a joke.' Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni also backed his quarterback, calling the recent criticism 'bullshit.' In interviews, analysts like Dan Orlovsky said they now believe Jalen Hurts proved them wrong after the Super Bowl win. Some voters, meanwhile, supported Jared Goff's position, pointing out his greater consistency throughout the regular season. Still, the argument goes on and many will be carefully observing both quarterbacks this year. Nick Sirianni says staying focused every single day is boring, but success takes what it takes
(Image via Getty Images: Nick Sirianni) Super Bowl LIX in the bag. Super Bowl LX? Preparing for it. Every single day. Even if it's boring! Nick Sirianni, one of the youngest head coaches in the NFL, stresses the need to keep his players grounded after their Super Bowl LIX victory against the Kansas City Chiefs. Sirianni wants sustained success. He doesn't wish for his players to rest on their past laurels. The head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles has been telling his players to focus on the present for the past four years, and he will continue to do so even after his team has won a Super Bowl title. Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni wants his team to have sustained success Nick Sirianni recently spoke to Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. Siranni said his players do not concentrate on past achievements or future goals. They think about their present situation. 'Every time we talk about it, talking about this topic, we're talking about sustained success. I think they understand what that is. A lot of these guys have had sustained success, right? They know it's not anything they've done in their past, and it's not them looking forward to the future. It's about being where they are right now. I think that's kind of our daily message with them.' Sirianni said his players' ideals resonate with his own. 'They don't think about the miles that they've already run, they don't think about the miles that are coming up. And that's a really cool way to say it. It resonates with me even a little bit more, and you're always trying to find fresh ways to say the same thing.' Nick Sirianni emphasizes the importance of focusing on the current situation The 54-23 record-holding head coach, Nick Sirianni, does not ask their players to change their style based on the teams they would face week after week. Instead, he stresses focusing on the present scenario. 'Pretty intentional about that, just being solely focused on the day, but I think that's really been our process. I'm not saying anything different than I've said the last four years, just being focused on today. Not - we're playing this team today, but in three weeks, we go this. I would have never said that in the first place. So, I think it's just our culture and our daily habits and how we go about it.' Resting on your laurels and resting on your accomplishments? Nick Sirianni calls it 'Error' The 2021 appointed head coach says that winning the Super Bowl boosted his players' confidence, but that is all. His players cannot depend on it or stop at it. Instead, they return to the beginning and rewrite a different story. 'That's in your DNA. You either can be right where you are, or you can look at it like - how are we going to get back to the Super Bowl? Man, resting on your laurels and resting on your past accomplishments? Error. That builds your confidence and stuff like that. But I think it's just again, being right back into what you're doing now. That doesn't mean that it's easy.' Nick Sirianni doesn't want his players to get distracted because of Super Bowl LIX's success The Greasy Neale Award recipient, Nick Sirianni, knows success can distract players. But the 44-year-old head coach knows they focus on bettering themselves every single day - even if it's boring! 'You're in the building, and everyone has the common goal of getting better, and this and that. But then you go outside, and there are things pulling you in different directions because of the success. And that's where it becomes tricky. It's just making sure that you're focused and locked in on where you are each individual day. I know that's boring, but success takes what it takes.' Kyle Hamilton (via Getty Images) Kyle Hamilton has become the NFL 's best safety—and this time, it's not merely fan hype or team bias behind the buzz. It's official, per a 2025 ESPN polling of league coaches, executives, and scouts: the Baltimore Ravens standout is now the league's No. 1 safety. Kyle Hamilton is widely regarded as a generational talent at just 23, whose influence on the field is beyond normal statistics. Baltimore Ravens' Kyle Hamilton graded as No. 1 safety in NFL by league insiders When the Baltimore Ravens drafted Kyle Hamilton in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, everyone expected a lot. Now in his fourth season, Kyle Hamilton hasn't only exceeded expectations—he's shattered them. He's being likened to some of the most dominant defenders in football today, including Myles Garrett, T.J. Watt, and Maxx Crosby. In ESPN's annual positional ranking, compiled from votes by league evaluators, Hamilton rose from the No. 2 spot last year to the top in 2025, surpassing Antoine Winfield Jr. and others. Kyle Hamilton Believes The Eagles Defense Has The Best Swag! In 2023, he was the league's lone safety with a minimum of 10 tackles for loss and 10 pass breakups. He contributed three sacks and four interceptions, and he's one of only five players in the last two years with at least 15 pass deflections, five interceptions, and more than one forced fumble. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Now that rookie first-round pick Malaki Starks is with the Ravens' secondary, Hamilton may be in for an even more commanding year.
