Kavitha launches ‘Leader' initiative for training future politicos
Unveiling a poster for 'Leader' at her residence on Sunday, MLC Kavitha emphasised the critical importance of youth participation for fostering cleaner politics. Speaking at the event, Ms Kavitha stated that Telangana is renowned for its questioning spirit and stressed the need to cultivate this trait in future generations. She announced that Telangana Jagruthi would conduct three day political training sessions every month across the state. The inaugural session is scheduled to commence in July in Hyderabad, with subsequent monthly sessions to be held in various districts starting from August.
Encouraging students, youth, and women to participate in the training programme, MLC Kavitha outlined that the sessions would cover key topics. These include the roles and responsibilities of elected representatives, from Sarpanches to Members of Parliament, as well as strategies for identifying and resolving public issues and mobilising development funds.
MLC Kavitha further reiterated that Telangana Jagruthi would continue its fight for achieving 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections. She also highlighted the significance of preparing women leaders for the upcoming parliamentary and assembly elections, particularly in light of the Women's Reservation Act, which provides 33 per cent reservations for women. With delimitation expected to increase the number of assembly seats in Telangana to 153, and Lok Sabha seats as well, Ms Kavitha underscored the necessity for strong, well informed leaders.

According to data shared by Minister of state for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada in a written reply to Lok Sabha, the export of mobile phones "increased 127 times" from India from₹ 1,500 crore in 2014-15 to₹ 2 lakh crore in 2024-25. "The PLI Scheme for LSEM has already attracted a cumulative investment of INR 12,390 crore, led to a cumulative production of ₹8,44,752 crore with exports of ₹4,65,809 crore and generated additional employment of 1,30,330 (direct jobs) till Jun'25," the minister said. The production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing was mainly meant for mobile phone manufacturing. The minister said that 75 per cent of the total mobile phone demand in the country was met through imports in 2014-15, which has now dropped to 0.02 per cent in 2024-25. "PLI Scheme for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing has significantly impacted the mobile manufacturing sector in India particularly in transforming India from a net importer to a net exporter of mobile phones. Bharat is now the second largest mobile manufacturing country in the world," the minister said. Prasada said the PLI Scheme 2.0 for IT hardware has attracted a cumulative investment of ₹717.13 crore, led to a cumulative production of ₹12,195.84 crore and generated additional employment of 5,056 (direct jobs) till June. "Total FDI in the field of electronics manufacturing in the last 5 years (i.e. since FY 2020-21) is $4,071 million, cumulative FDI of $2,802 million has been contributed by MeitY PLI beneficiaries," the minister said. Therefore, as per the provisions of article 246 read with article 162 of the Constitution, State Legislatures have the power to legislate on matters related to betting and gambling," Prasada minister said that the states and union territories are primarily responsible for the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of crimes, including action on illegal betting and gambling."The Central Government supplements the efforts of the States/Union Territories through advisories and financial assistance under various schemes for capacity building of their LEA," Prasada said.

Govt to impose restrictions on Indian teams' international play under bill
The central government will have the power to "impose reasonable restrictions" on the international participation of Indian teams and individual athletes under "extraordinary circumstances", as per the National Sports Governance Bill that was tabled in Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Covered in the clause on "Power to issue directions and impose restrictions in national interest," it clarifies a grey area on participation that often crops up with regards to arch foes Pakistan. "The Central Government may, by an order, impose reasonable restrictions on the participation of any national team of a concerned sport in international sports competitions or participation of any individual in the activities of the national sports, under extraordinary circumstances and in the national interest," states the bill, which will become an act only after being passed in both houses of the Parliament followed by President's ascent. The question of allowing an Indian team to compete in an international event mostly comes up when Pakistan is involved. The government policy has been clear for several years -- no bar on participation if it's a multi-lateral event but bilaterals are "out of question." This has been the position since the 2008 Mumbai terror attack in which over 150 people were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists. "This is an important step to ensure that the government has clear command on such decisions. Whenever national interest is involved, it's the government which faces the questions and it is only fair that it has the final say," a sports ministry source told PTI. The two neighbours' relationship nose-dived further after the Pahalgam terror attack this year in April in which 26 tourists were gunned down leading to a brief military showdown that ended on Pakistan's request for a ceasefire. The two countries have, however, engaged with each other in multilateral events even after Pahalgam as India is a member of the International Olympic Committee, whose charter bars any discrimination based on politics. Other discretionary powers Besides this, the central government will also have the final say on the relaxation of the clauses of the act, including the cap of number of Executive Committee members in national sports bodies, currently capped at 15. The sports ministry has assured that in case the international statutes differ from the provisions of the bill, the former will "take primacy". However, the final call on this will also be in the hands of the government after due consultation with the National Sports Board, which will have powers to recognise or de-recognise national federations. "...the Central Government may, after consulting the Board and the concerned International Sports Body as may be deemed necessary, issue a clarificatory notification in this regard," the bill states.
