'Behave Or We'll…': Trump's BIG Threat To Mamdani Amid Fierce New York Battle | Watch
US President Donald Trump is threatening to cut federal funding to New York City if Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic mayoral hopeful, is elected and doesn't "behave." In a recent interview, Trump reiterated his calls of Mamdani being a "communist" and stated, "Whoever's mayor of New York is going to have to behave themselves or the federal government is coming down very tough on them financially." Mamdani, who is endorsed by high-profile Democrats like AOC, has responded to Trump's remarks, denying he is a communist and accusing Trump of distraction. Mamdani's progressive, anti-Israel, and pro-immigration stances have rattled Republicans, with some even calling for his deportation. Mamdani, poised to become NYC's first Muslim and South Asian mayor, recently spoke out about receiving death threats due to his race and religion.

As national pride plunges, Trump's America looks less 'great' than ever, Gallup poll data reveals

Live Events (You can now subscribe to our (You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel Just days before the Fourth of July , a new Gallup poll has delivered a jolt to America's patriotic spirit: only 58% of U.S. adults now say they are 'extremely' or 'very' proud to be American, marking a dramatic 9-point plunge from last year and the lowest level ever recorded by Gallup since the survey began in 2001. This historic dip is driven by a collapse in the number of Americans who describe themselves as 'very proud,' which tumbled from 26% in 2024 to just 17% this year, while the percentage who are 'extremely proud' held steady at 41%.The Gallup Poll is a nationally recognized public opinion survey conducted by Gallup, Inc. , using scientifically selected random samples to measure the attitudes and views of U.S. adults on a wide range of political, social, and economic drop is most pronounced among Democrats , with only 36% expressing strong national pride—an astonishing 26-point fall from 62% just a year ago, and the lowest figure Gallup has ever measured for the group. For comparison, 92% of Republicans now say they're 'extremely' or 'very' proud to be American, up 7 points from 2024 and continuing a two-decade trend of high GOP patriotism. Independents also showed a decline, with just 53% reporting strong pride, down from 60% last divides are equally stark. Only 41% of Gen Z adults (born 1997–2012) say they're 'extremely' or 'very' proud to be American, compared to 58% of Millennials and over 70% of Gen Xers and Baby Boomers. Jeffrey Jones, Gallup's senior editor, notes, 'Each generation is less patriotic than the prior generation, and Gen Z is definitely much lower than anybody else. Even among older generations, patriotism is declining—primarily driven by Democrats within those age groups'.National pride in the U.S. peaked in the early 2000s, with 87% of Americans expressing strong pride in 2001, a figure that hovered in the high 80s and low 90s for several years before beginning a steady decline. The current 58% is a new low, surpassing the previous record of 63% set in 2020. The Gallup survey, conducted June 2–19 with a sample of 1,000 adults, carries a margin of error of 4 percentage points.

'Not Talking To Them Since We...': Trump Says Not Open To An Deal With Iran

US President Donald Trump said Monday he was not offering Iran anything nor talking to it "since we totally obliterated" the country's nuclear facilities. "I am not offering Iran ANYTHING, unlike Obama," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. "Nor am I even talking to them since we totally OBLITERATED their Nuclear Facilities." The statement comes as Iran's deputy foreign minister told the BBC that talks between Washington and Tehran cannot resume unless the US rules out further strikes on Iran. Majid Takht-Ravanchi told the British broadcaster that the US had signalled it wants to return to the negotiating table, a week after it struck three Iranian nuclear facilities. "We have not agreed to any date, we have not agreed to the modality," said Takht-Ravanchi. "Right now we are seeking an answer to this question. Are we going to see a repetition of an act of aggression while we are engaging in dialogue?" The US needs to be "quite clear on this very important question", he said. The two countries were in talks over Tehran's nuclear programme when Israel hit Iranian nuclear sites and military infrastructure this month, with the US joining by bombing three nuclear sites -- Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan -- on June 21. The deputy minister revealed to the BBC that the US had signalled it did "not want to engage in regime change" by targeting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Takht-Ravanchi also said Iran should still be allowed to enrich uranium. "The level of that can be discussed, the capacity can be discussed, but to say that you should not have enrichment, you should have zero enrichment, and if you do not agree, we will bomb you, that is the law of the jungle," he said. Israel claims that Iran's nuclear programme is close to producing a bomb, whereas Tehran says it is for peaceful purposes. It is not clear yet how much damage the strikes inflicted on Iran's nuclear facilities, which Trump has said were "totally obliterated". UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi said Iran would probably be able to begin to produce enriched uranium "in a matter of months". Takht-Ravanchi said he did not know how long it would take. Under a 2015 deal, Iran was allowed to enrich uranium below 3.67 percent purity for fuel for commercial nuclear power plants. Trump abandoned the agreement in 2018 and Iran responded by producing uranium enriched to 60 percent -- above levels for civilian usage but still below weapons grade. That material, if further refined, would theoretically be sufficient to produce more than nine nuclear bombs.
