The Chicago Bulls have taken a big step by extending head coach Billy Donovan's contract for multiple years, ensuring he stays in charge until at least the 2025-26 season.
Negotiations kicked off at the end of last season and carried on through a hectic offseason filled with the draft, free agency, and summer league activities.
This choice has sparked mixed feelings among fans, especially given the team's challenges under Donovan, leading many to wonder if this indicates a desire for change.

in 2025
Billy Donovan had one year remaining on his current contract and has been a key figure for the Bulls' management. Discussions about an extension began after last season and continued even when the New York Knicks showed interest in Donovan for their head coaching position.
However, the Bulls turned down the Knicks' request to interview him, clearly indicating their desire to retain him in Chicago. 'Donovan is viewed as a leader within the Bulls organization,', stressing the franchise's trust in his ability to lead the team through its present difficulties.
This extension ensures Donovan will enter his sixth season with the Bulls in 2025-26, marking his 800th NBA game coached. His career record stands at 438-362 over 10 seasons, including his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In Chicago, however, his record is a more modest 195-205, with the team posting back-to-back 39-43 seasons, finishing ninth in the Eastern Conference, and losing in the play-in tournament for three straight years.
Billy Donovan's Hall of Fame induction adds weight to Chicago Bulls decision to keep him
The Bulls' decision to extend Donovan comes as the Eastern Conference grows increasingly competitive. Rising teams like the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic, alongside powerhouses like the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks, have raised the bar.
The Bulls, stuck near .500, lack the star power or depth to match these contenders, leaving fans skeptical about the team's direction.

To the optimists, there is some hope in Donovan extension. His exposure to young talent and talent management skills may prove very useful as Bulls incorporate new players in their team who were drafted recently. His hall of fame nomination and his other accomplishment of coaching 800 games in the NBA prove his reputation of a respected leader. To doubters, however, it is just postponement of the inevitable, a reluctance to get at underlying roster and strategic problems.

CC Sabathia and his family have a bumpy ride to Cooperstown

COOPERSTOWN, NY (AP) — For CC Sabathia, getting elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame was much easier than actually getting to the Hall of Fame. HT Image Sabathia, whose career spanned 19 seasons with the Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees, was voted in on his first year of eligibility. Getting to Cooperstown for Hall of Fame weekend activities to be capped by his induction Sunday proved a tad more difficult. 'It was an adventure,' Sabathia said Saturday. Sabathia, wife Amber and their four children left their Alpine, New Jersey, home at about 4 p.m. Thursday. They traveled in two vehicles as is their family custom and were about 75 miles (120 kilometers) into their 177-mile trip when things got interesting. 'We stopped to get food. Everything's going great,' Sabathia said. 'We tried to get on the on-ramp on (Route) 17 and the car just stopped. I was behind her (Amber). Most of the time when we're driving, I'm gone. I'm never driving behind her, but for some reason I was taking my time riding behind her.' Sabathia had a clear view of what was happening. They called for assistance. The family piled into Sabathia's car and returned home to grab another vehicle as a tow truck towed their broken-down Escalade back to Alpine. The Sabathias arrived in Cooperstown at about midnight. What should have been a drive of about three hours became an eight-hour journey. 'It was pretty funny. I was taking pictures. My kids were doing TikToks and Amber was in the back like the super serious person she is getting everything done,' Sabathia said. 'People were honking at us and recognizing us on the side of the road. It was fun for us. 'For her it was a nightmare.' The Sabathias, including Amber, will certainly be all smiles Sunday. ___ AP MLB:

NBA Trade Rumors: Golden State Warriors Could Target $27 Million Chicago Bulls Star to Bolster Frontcourt Depth and Floor Spacing

Stephen Curry of Golden State Warriors and Dillon Brooks of Memphis Grizzlies (Image via Getty. As Jonathan Kuminga 's restricted free agency lingers on, the Golden State Warriors are exploring potential sign-and-trade options—and the Chicago Bulls have emerged as a possible trade partner. According to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, the Warriors could look to acquire 6-foot-10 forward Jalen Smith, a former lottery pick with shooting upside. 'Kuminga wants a new situation,' wrote Siegel. 'The 22-year-old has signaled that the role he wants moving forward isn't obtainable with the Golden State Warriors.' Despite talks with teams like the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns falling flat, the Golden State Warriors remain active in trade discussions. The Bulls' interest in Kuminga isn't guaranteed, especially as they deal with Josh Giddey's situation, but a potential deal involving Jalen Smith and guard Ayo Dosunmu could benefit both sides. Smith, drafted 10th overall by the Suns in 2020, has developed into a serviceable floor-spacing big. With the Bulls in 2024-25, he averaged 8.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks in just 15 minutes per game.
