CBS News6 hours ago
A complex of storms is moving across North Texas Monday morning, prompting a First Alert Weather Day.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of Johnson, Tarrant, Hill, Ellis and Dallas counties until 6:30 a.m.
The storms could bring up to 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail.
Strong to severe storms will remain possible for the next couple of hours as these storms head south through Dallas-Fort Worth.
According to the National Weather Service, a strong thunderstorm will impact portions of Kaufman and west-central Van Zandt counties through 6 a.m. Monday.
As for the rest of the week, the typical dry and hot August forecast is back. A ridge of high pressure will build over the next several days, allowing temperatures to once again reach near the triple digits.
A decent amount of moisture is forecasted to linger, making the feels-like value to reach anywhere from 100 to 107 degrees Wednesday through Friday.

McNair High in Stockton flooded by water main break, students shift to remote learning

A Stockton-area school is shifting to remote learning for the day after a water main broke and caused flooding on campus. The Lodi Unified School District announced Monday that McNair High School will be on remote learning for the day due to the situation. "Students will need to log onto their Google Classroom during their class periods. Students on campus will be going home," the district said in a statement. Video from the scene shows significant flooding in one of McNair's buildings. It appears several classrooms are impacted. Workers are trying to mitigate the damage. It's unclear how the water main broke and how long the school will be in remote learning. Lodi Unified schools only just returned from summer break last Tuesday.

Hudson Valley weather: Warm, sunny and hazy Aug. 4 in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam

The Lower Hudson Valley can expect some warm and sunny weather for the first full week of August, but residents will want to be ready for air quality issues due to Canadian wildfires. The National Weather Service issued an air quality alert for Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties Monday, Aug. 4, valid until midnight Aug. 5, thanks to raging wildfires up north in Canada. Lower Hudson Valley air quality alert Monday, Aug. 4 NYSDEC said ground level ozone and particulate matter in the air due to wildfires in Ontario could exceed safe air quality index levels over 100. As of 9:45 a.m., measured the Lower Hudson Valley's Air Quality Index as "Moderate," with an AQI score of 74, an Ozone level of 14 and a particulate matter level of 101. NYSDEC says the risk for individuals who may be prone to respiratory illness was expected to increase as the day continues, and temperatures rise. At-risk populations for poor air quality include "the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease," said NWS in the alert. NYSDEC said those at risk should stay inside and limit physical activity. Sunny skies and warm temperatures to kick off August Despite air quality issues, Monday is presenting itself to be a beautiful day. There will be some widespread haze due to the smoke from the Canadian wildfires, but skies will be sunny with high temperatures near 89 degrees. Overnight, the haze is expected to stick around with partly cloudy skies and lows near 66 degrees. Tuesday and Wednesday should look similar to Monday. Tuesday should bring mostly sunny skies with high temps near 88 in the day and lows near 66 overnight. Wednesday should also be sunny, with a bit more clouds in the sky and lower temperatures compared to the beginning of the week, near 84 degrees. Overnight will be mostly cloudy again with temperatures at a steady 66 degrees. SpaceX lifts 28 Starlink satellites in landmark reusable booster mission

Aug. 4 (UPI) -- SpaceX launched dozens of new Starlink satellites into orbit overnight after initial delays over weather in the company's 69th liftoff this year. The Starlink 10-30 mission saw liftoff at 3:57 a.m. EDT from pad 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida after its original 2:01 a.m. time slot had to be changed due to persistent storms. The Falcon 9 and its joint Falcon Heavy rocket carried 28 Starlink satellites to its growing constellation of Internet-ready satellite devices. But it marked a milestones for SpaceX with the 450th launch of its flight-proven booster 1080, which flew for its 21st time. Initially there was an 85% chance for favorable weather in the forecast, according to the 45th Weather Squadron. But strong thunderstorms via a low-pressure system hung over the region and temporarily delayed the launch as Tropical Storm Dexter gains strength. A little over 8 minutes after liftoff the B1080 landed on SpaceX's drone ship "Just Read the Instructions" in the Atlantic Ocean in the 131st landing on the drone ship vessel. So far this year SpaceX has launched over 1,650 Starlink satellites in the Elon Musk-run company's bid to expand global Internet access.
