Mia Farrow reveals she was ‘betrayed' by Bette Davis' daughter: ‘I lost all respect for her'

New York Post05-06-2025
It was death of a friendship on the Iberian Peninsula.
Mia Farrow, 80, is getting candid on Bette Davis' daughter, B.D. Hyman's 1985 memoir, 'My Mother's Keeper.'
While speaking to Interview Magazine on Tuesday, the actress said she thought the memoir was 'a trashy book.'

The 'Rosemary's Baby' star was close friends Davis, who died in 1989 at age 81.
'[Bette] had worked with my father when I was 12, and we were all in Spain, and she had a very disagreeable daughter named B.D. who was my age,' Farrow recounted. 'And Bette wanted to take her to every village and museum, but she didn't want to go anywhere. We were all staying in the same hotel. I, on the other hand, could barely not raise my hand to say, 'Can I come?''
Reflecting on the book years later, the actress, who starred in the 1978 film 'Death on the Nile' with Davis, stated that 'B.D. betrayed her mother in a horrible way, wrote a trashy book and stuff. So we've known each other since childhood but I lost all respect for her. I really loved her mother, by the way.'

Hyman, who is now 78, explained to People in 1985, 'I wrote the book because I love her and I want to reach her.'
'I could have written the manuscript and sent it to Mother and not published it. She wouldn't have read it,' she continued. 'She won't listen to anything she doesn't want to hear. She hangs up the phone or walks out the door. So I went the only route I felt would reach her: the public forum. What is seen by the world is the most important thing to Mother. This is essentially a public letter to my mother.'
However, things didn't go according to plan, as after the book went public, David disinherited her daughter.

In response, the Hollywood star wrote an open letter in her own memoir, 'This 'N That.'
'The sum total of your having written this book is a glaring lack of loyalty and thanks for the very privileged life I feel you have been given,' Davis penned. 'I hope someday I will understand the title 'My Mother's Keeper.' If it refers to money, if my memory serves me right, I've been your keeper all these many years. I am continuing to do so, as my name has made your book about me a success.'
Along with publicly feuding with her daughter, the 'What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?' alum also had a Hollywood archnemesis, Joan Crawford.

'I wouldn't piss on Joan Crawford if she were on fire,' Davis once stated.
The two stars had a decades-long feud brought on by both professional and personal issues with one another. Crawford died in 1977.
One moment in particular was in 1935 when Davis fell in love with her 'Dangerous' co-star Franchot Tone. Unfortunately, Crawford got to him first.
During a 1987 interview with journalist Michael Thorton, Davis said, 'I have never forgiven her for that, and never will.'

'He was madly in love with her,' Davis said. 'They met each day for lunch… he would return to the set, his face covered in lipstick. He was honored this great star was in love with him. I was jealous, of course.'
Crawford, meanwhile, said in her memoir 'Not the Girl Next Door: Joan Crawford: A Personal Biography,' that Tone 'thought Bette was a good actress, but he never thought of her as a woman.'

Actor Ike Barinholtz Will Play Elon Musk In Sam Altman OpenAI Movie

Actor Ike Barinholtz is in talks to portray the world's richest person, Elon Musk, in an upcoming comedy-drama movie that will reportedly center on the brief ousting of billionaire Sam Altman from the helm of OpenAI in 2023. Elon Musk will reportedly be portrayed in the upcoming film "Artificial." (Photo by Chip ...) Getty Images The upcoming film, 'Artificial,' is still in development at Amazon MGM Studios and is expected to shoot later this year with a planned release for 2026, multiple outlets reported. Actor Ike Barinholtz, who recently scored an Emmy nomination for his role in 'The Studio,' is in talks to play Elon Musk in the film, multiple outlets reported Wednesday. Andrew Garfield is attached to play another billionaire, OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman, with actor Yura Borisov also set to play OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever. Though few details of the plot are known, the film is described as a comedy-drama about the few days between Altman's firing and re-hiring as OpenAI's CEO in November 2023. Luca Guadagnino, known for his films including 'Call Me By Your Name' and 'Challengers,' is directing the project. Forbes has reached out to Amazon MGM Studios for comment. Matthew Belloni, entertainment reporter at Puck, claimed he obtained a copy of the 'Artificial' script, stating Musk and Altman will 'probably hate their portrayals' and that Musk is referred to as a 'dictator' at one point in the script. Belloni noted the script is a draft and could change before the movie shoots, but said Musk appears in a few scenes of 'villainy and comic relief.' Other billionaires included in the draft, according to Belloni, include former OpenAI vice president of research and current Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, as well as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Why Was Sam Altman Fired From Openai? Altman, who co-founded OpenAI in 2015 and was installed as CEO in 2019, was fired from his post on Nov. 17, 2023 by the company's board, which said it no longer had 'confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.' In its statement, the board accused Altman of not being candid with it, though the details surrounding his firing, which was considered a shock, were unclear. The following year, board member Helen Toner, who helped oust Altman, said Altman made the board's job 'really difficult' by 'withholding information, misrepresenting things that were happening at the company' and sometimes 'outright lying to the board,' alleging he did not inform the board about ChatGPT's 2022 release. She also claimed two executives said they had endured 'psychological abuse' and a 'toxic atmosphere' crafted by Altman. Hundreds of employees threatened to quit OpenAI after Altman's firing, and on Nov. 22, the board announced Altman would be reinstated. Sutskever, who is portrayed in 'Artificial,' was reportedly a leader of the effort to remove Altman, though he later expressed regret for the ouster and signed the open letter threatening to quit unless Altman was reinstated. Musk has been parodied multiple times on 'Saturday Night Live,' which he lambasted in posts on X. After Dana Carvey tackled Musk in a post-election episode in November, Musk tweeted 'SNL' has been 'dying slowly for years, as they become increasingly out of touch with reality.' In a separate post, he said 'Dana Carvey just sounds like Dana Carvey.' Musk was parodied months later by Mike Myers, prompting the billionaire to post: 'SNL hasn't been funny in a long time. They are their own parody.' Musk hosted 'SNL' in 2021, and three years later, cast member Chloe Fineman said he was 'rude' on set and made her cry by calling a sketch she had written 'not funny.' Forbes Valuation Forbes estimates Musk's net worth at $415 billion as of Wednesday, making him the wealthiest person in the world. He owns about 12% of Tesla and 42% of SpaceX, both of which he co-founded. Altman is worth $1.8 billion, according to Forbes estimates, largely from his investments in Stripe, Reddit and other companies. Hakeem Jeffries recruiting new digital aide after Photoshop fail warped area around his hips

Hakeem Jeffries needs someone who can shoot the hip. The House Minority Leader is hiring a new digital manager to help the Brooklyn lawmaker step up his Photoshop game after an editing snafu on Instagram earlier this month set the internet ablaze. Jeffries' office put out a posting Tuesday for a 'dynamic and highly skilled' digital manager who has expertise in Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects and more. 'The Digital Manager will be primarily responsible for transforming the Leader's on-camera content into compelling, high-impact video, audio and visual content for online platforms,' the posting said, noting that the ideal candidate 'understands the digital media landscape.' Jeffries' team also stressed that the new digital manager needs to have 'excellent judgment.' 3 The House Minority Leader went viral earlier this month after posting a photo to his Instagram that appeared to be terribly edited. @repjeffries/Instagram 3 Democrats have been scrambling to ramp up their digital media savviness. Getty Images Two weeks ago, the judgment of Jeffries' digital handlers was called into question after a post on his Instagram account showed a distorted photo of the congressman. The 54-year-old looked fly at first glance as he donned a pair of sunglasses — but the bench on which he casually rested was glaringly warped. Internet sleuths quickly uncovered other images on Jeffries' social media accounts of him posing in settings where the backgrounds looked suspiciously distorted. Even progressives like journalist Ken Klippenstein joined the pile-on. 'Hakeem Jeffries is such a charisma black hole that it's warping the fabric of spacetime,' Klippenstein wrote on X July 7. GOP operatives also hammered Jeffries for the faux pas. 'Hakeem Jeffries slimming himself in Photoshop is the most transparency we've seen from Democrats in years,' Republican communicator Erin Maguire chided at the time. The Post contacted a Jeffries spokesperson for clarification about whether the digital manager job posting was related to this month's mockery. 'Guess it takes a full-time editor to keep up with a full-time embarrassment,' National Republican Congressional Committee spokesperson Mike Marinella needled about the recruitment effort. 3 Netizens also pointed to other instances in which Hakeem Jeffries appeared to have Photoshopped images on his social media. X/juliegraceb The digital manager is also required to study engagement metrics across social media platforms, clip videos for Jeffries and engage with his allies on the internet, according to the job description. Candidates are expected to have at least three years of experience.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner's shocking death raises new swimming safety fears — here's how experts say to avoid drowning in a rip current

The accidental death of 'The Cosby Show' actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner has saddened the world — and raised new fears over swimming safety. The beloved TV legend's passing comes amid a record number of drownings on NYC's beaches, where the same type of rip current that claimed Warner in Costa Rica can threaten swimmers just as quickly. However, according to local water education non-profit Rising Tide Effect, a whopping 95% of all such fatalities are preventable — given the proper instruction. 4 New Yorkers enjoy the water at Coney Island — where rip currents can threaten at any time, experts say. Getty Images In the event you're caught in a rip current, the best thing to do is stay calm, swim parallel to the shore out of the current, and wait for rescue or approach the shore, the experts warn. Rip currents do not pull swimmers under — they just draw people out further from the sand, they said. Exerting too much energy kicking or swimming against the current can, in many cases, be fatal. A similar fate to Warner's befell MLB prospect-turned cop Chase Childers while vacationing with his family on Pawleys Island, S.C., earlier this month. The trouble began when a woman asked the dad of three to help save her brood of five, all caught in a current. After heroically saving the swimmers with the help of another nearby man, Childers disappeared into the water — until his body was recovered 90 minutes later by first responders. Authorities suspect that the ballplayer's admirable rescue efforts left him without the strength to make it back to shore. Drownings only take up to a minute to occur, so swimming close to a lifeguard when possible can often be the difference between life and death. In Warner's case, there was no lifeguard present at the time of his death, but signs advising the presence of potential rip currents were reportedly posted on the beach. 4 Chase Childers, 38, drowned just weeks ago during a beach vacation with his family in South Carolina. GoFundMe 4 Warner passed away at age 54 on July 20 during a trip to Costa Rica. Getty Images The actor was enjoying a family vacation in Playa Grande, and was reportedly swept out into a high current between 2 and 2:30 p.m. local time. Of the incident, Costa Rican National Police previously told The Post that he was pulled to the shore by nearby beachgoers, allowing the Costa Rica Red Cross to attempt resuscitation. Per the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), rip currents are especially common at low tide, so be sure to keep an eye on the water, and practice advanced caution by checking beach conditions and wave forecast before arriving. 4 Prevention is as important as protection when it comes to rip currents, Krause says. Getty Images Last year, NYC saw a record seven drownings, and six of them occurred while a lifeguard was not on duty. Per city data, only 34% of NYC residents live within a 15-minute transit ride to a NYC swimming facility, whether it be beach or pool, meaning a majority of New Yorkers make a trek to swim — and many go without swimming lessons or regular experience in water at all, leaving them at a higher risk. In the wake of increased drownings, more shark sightings, and rising temperatures, inexperienced New York swimmers looking to beat the heat this summer are advised to stick close to the shore, build up their confidence and skills with swimming lessons or opt for pools, officials and experts warn.
